GNM Studio v1.4.0 — Custom Head
GNM Studio v1.4.0 adds experimental, fully local photo-guided GNM identity fitting to both the Windows app and web edition.
Highlights
- Custom Head fitting: add a straight-on neutral photo and optionally a 45–60° photo of the same person. MediaPipe aligns 118 stable anatomical landmarks and a robust solver fits them inside a 48-mode subspace sampled from valid GNM identities.
- Honest DINOv3 role: DINOv3 only validates that optional front/three-quarter images agree; it does not reconstruct the mesh. The Windows build includes the pinned ViT-S/16 Q4 ONNX weights for offline use. The web edition downloads and caches them only when a two-view fit is requested.
- One-photo support: a front image is sufficient. The optional second view improves depth constraints and identity validation.
- Local and private: photos and fitted coefficients stay on the device. No Python, CUDA, cloud API, or separate Windows model download is required.
- Safer fitting: expression-resistant correspondences, robust outlier rejection, constrained identity coefficients, and oral-containment checks reduce invalid heads and mouth-part leakage.
- Resizable studio: left and right sidebars can be dragged within safe limits while keeping the central viewport usable.
- GNM eyes: the visible GNM iris is 20% larger while the black pupil size and gaze behavior remain unchanged.
- Updated English and Chinese documentation, runtime integrity checks, licenses, and
/GNM-Studio/web deployment validation.
Custom Head remains experimental. It matches proportions available inside GNM's released identity space; it is not texture transfer or unconstrained single-image 3D reconstruction.

This hotfix repairs GNM mouth deformation and calibrated head tracking while retaining the v1.3.1 four-joint rig, recording, export, and web-runtime improvements.
Fixed
- Restored the byte-identical v1.3.0 jaw target inside the pose-enabled v1.3.1 runtime.
- Removed the malformed least-squares mouth target that stretched the lips and obscured the teeth.
- Restored the proven v1.3.0 mouth confidence gate.
- Corrected MediaPipe facial-matrix mapping: source X drives pitch, source Z drives yaw, and source -Y drives roll.
- Reduced excessive cervical bending while keeping visible neck support and exact final head orientation.
- Added regression checks for the jaw-target hash, calibrated yaw/pitch/roll, and neck/head distribution.

GNM Studio v1.3.0
GNM Studio v1.3.0 completes the feature-based app composition refactor and hardens every export path.
Changed
- Photo, PNG-sequence, WebM, and MP4 exports now render at the exact configured resolution. The stage reframes natively to the export size during rendering instead of stretching or letterboxing the viewport image.
- The GNM procedural eyes are 25% larger through the eye shader; avatar geometry is unchanged.
Fixed
- System-FFmpeg MP4 conversion no longer fails on odd viewport dimensions (libx264 "height not divisible by 2"); both the FFmpeg and WebCodecs paths scale and pad to the even export size.
- Exported WebM files now carry correct duration metadata, so players no longer report a one-second clip.
- PNG and video exports keep the correct aspect ratio at any viewport size.

GNM Studio v1.2.2 — Pitch Hotfix
HOTFIX — calibrated head pitch
GNM Studio v1.2.2 is a focused hotfix for the calibrated head-tracking regression reported in v1.2.1.
Fixed
- Looking up and down once again pitches the GNM and FaceCap avatars with the performer after neutral calibration.
- A near-zero or contradictory MediaPipe transformation-matrix pitch can no longer suppress or invert a clear landmark-derived pitch signal.
- Responsive matrix pitch is still retained when it is reliable.
- Mirrored camera mode no longer changes the up/down pitch direction.
Yaw, roll, adaptive smoothing, neutral-relative XYZ translation, exact recorded motion/framing, microphone routing, and export behavior remain unchanged. The fix includes automated regression coverage and was user-tested in the portable Windows build before publication.

GNM Studio v1.2.0 is a major local-first mocap, rendering, and web-edition update.
Highlights
- Added browser-based seeded GNM identity generation using a lazy 6.85 MB quantized basis in a dedicated Web Worker. Desktop identity remains on the exact native Rust evaluator.
- Added the MIT FaceCap 52 mocap avatar with direct 52-channel MediaPipe/ARKit-style tracking, manual controls, locks, export, and offline KTX2/Meshopt decoding.
- Added hazel/green-brown irises and preserved black pupils to FaceCap and GNM heads, including lightweight gaze motion.

Web edition

Validation
The release passed frontend and asset checks, TypeScript production builds, lint, Pages/offline asset verification, four Rust tests including Python-reference parity and FFmpeg smoke transcoding, UPX integrity verification, and launch smoke tests for both portable executables.

GNM Studio v1.1.1
GNM Studio v1.1.1 is a focused stability and usability release for the new FaceCap and output-window workflow.
Fixed
- Fixed the canvas-only popout repeatedly rebuilding its Three.js renderer, which caused the avatar to flash and stop responding to live tracking.
- The popout now follows the selected Webcam, Avatar, Landmarks, mirror, background, material, opacity, wireframe, and lighting settings.
- Fixed FaceCap 52 loading with embedded KTX2 textures by attaching an offline Basis Universal transcoder before GLB parsing.

GNM Studio v1.1.0 adds a second, fully offline mocap avatar and a clean output workflow for live production.
Highlights
- FaceCap 52 avatar (MIT): switch between Google GNM Head v3 and the bundled Three.js r184 FaceCap model. All 52 MediaPipe/ARKit-style channels drive FaceCap directly, including jaw, gaze, cheeks, lips, and tongue.
- Improved face-only head motion: neutral-relative yaw, pitch, and roll use MediaPipe's facial transform with a face-landmark fallback—no torso or shoulder tracking.
- Model-aware editing and export: grouped FaceCap controls, per-channel freeze locks, backward-compatible motion JSON, and animated GLB export for either avatar.
- PBR materials: the skin system works on both heads while keeping eyes, teeth, and tongue separate. A new far-left white Neutral option removes skin-tone tint while preserving optional pore detail.
- OBS/output workflow: true canvas fullscreen with configurable auto-hide and
H, plus a canvas-only popout that owns the sole renderer and restores the studio canvas when closed. - Popout recording: FPS, bitrate, selected microphone, pause/resume/stop, and the completed recording are routed to the window that owns the output canvas.
- Offline and local-first: FaceCap, GNM, MediaPipe WASM/model assets, and skin resources are bundled. End users do not need Python, CUDA, Node.js, cloud APIs, or a separate model download.

Standard Portable
The Standard Portable package is recommended.
- The executable is not packed with UPX.
- It generally produces fewer antivirus false positives.
- It contains exactly the same GNM Studio features.
- No installer is required.
UPX Portable
The UPX package contains the same executable and resources, but the executable has been compressed using UPX 5.1.1.
- Smaller executable and ZIP.
- Functionally identical to the Standard Portable build.
- Passed the UPX executable integrity test.
- UPX-packed applications can trigger heuristic antivirus warnings because of their compressed executable layout.
- If Windows Defender or another antivirus objects to it, use the Standard Portable ZIP instead.
How to run GNM Studio
- Download either the Standard Portable ZIP or the UPX Portable ZIP.
- Right-click the ZIP and select Extract All.
- Open the extracted folder.
- Run
GNM-Studio-v1.0.1.exe. - Allow camera or microphone access only if you want live tracking or audio recording.
Do not run the EXE directly from inside the ZIP. Extract the entire archive first.
GNM Studio does not require:
- Python
- CUDA
- A Python virtual environment
- A separate MediaPipe model download
- An installer
- Administrator access
- Internet access after downloading the package
GNM Studio uses Microsoft Edge WebView2, which is normally already installed on supported Windows 10 and Windows 11 systems.
If Windows SmartScreen appears, verify that the file came from the official GNM Studio repository. You may then select More info → Run anyway if you trust the download.
Recording and MP4 export
GNM Studio provides three capture modes:
- Motion data records editable facial and head-motion channels. It supports JSON, animated GLB, and silent avatar MP4 rendering.
- Avatar video records the rendered GNM head and background. Microphone audio is included unless muted.
- Camera + avatar records the enabled webcam and avatar layers as a composite video, with microphone audio unless muted.
When exporting Motion data as MP4, the avatar plays through the take once in real time while the browser records it. Keep GNM Studio or the browser tab visible until rendering completes.
MP4 conversion uses local WebCodecs when necessary. Desktop users can optionally configure a system FFmpeg installation under Encoder quality.
Blender export
Animated GLB is the recommended editable Blender format.
In Blender, use:
File → Import → glTF 2.0
The exported GLB includes the GNM mesh, animation, morph targets, jaw motion, and selected skin-material settings.
Alembic export is not included in this release.

Web edition limitations
The web edition supports facial tracking, expressions, recording, motion import/export, animated GLB, MP4/WebM export, materials, backgrounds, and most studio controls.
The native seeded GNM identity generator remains desktop-only. Browser MP4 support depends on the available H.264 WebCodecs encoder. A current Chromium-based browser such as Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome is recommended.
