Release list
FusionEdge v1.1.1
What's changed
- Fixed playlist touch scrolling so entering and browsing the channel list no longer changes the volume.
- Refined the full-screen cover screensaver with centered clock and weather content, safe nameday wrapping, and artifact-free text rendering.
- Updated the Last.fm integration with visible attribution and HTTP-aware metadata caching; cover images now come exclusively from Cover Art Archive through MusicBrainz release identifiers.
- Corrected IR previous/next and volume-button navigation direction in the channel list, including held-button repeats.
- Ensured the RGB LED strip is cleared before every deep-sleep path, preventing the final animation frame from remaining illuminated.
The cover-screensaver text-rendering fix was contributed by Volodimyr Zagranichniy. Thank you for the continued testing and careful improvements.
Upgrade note
Upload both the v1.1.1 firmware and the matching LittleFS data because the WebUI attribution was updated. A full flash erase is not required.
FusionEdge v1.0.10
What's new
- Added an optional full-screen album-cover screensaver with track, time, date, nameday and weather information.
- Improved multilingual Last.fm matching for punctuation, Unicode dashes and quotes, Cyrillic case, trailing technical IDs and multiple semicolon-separated artists.
- Increased the accepted cover-image size to 512 KB while retaining PSRAM-backed storage and cooperative network handling.
- Added configurable backlight PWM frequency and Wi-Fi TX power defaults for sensitive hardware.
- Added optional BTN_MODE and BTN_RGB controls for source switching, LED strip enable/disable and effect selection.
- Kept RGB VU animation active during playback screensavers and added Bluetooth VU input.
- Improved WEB, SD, DLNA and Bluetooth transitions by coordinating decoder, I2S bridge and remote-source pause state.
- Corrected FLAC sample-buffer reuse, gen4-ESP32-35CT landscape orientation and hardware configuration examples.
The full-screen cover screensaver and most non-Bluetooth improvements in this release were contributed or proposed by Volodimyr Zagranichniy. Many thanks for his careful development, testing and continued refinement.
FusionEdge v1.0.9
FusionEdge v1.0.9
- Extended Clock brightness to the While playing clock when the cassette screensaver is disabled.
- Integrated ambient-light control with clock brightness and fade. With
LIGHT_SENSORenabled, the clock setting scales automatic brightness. - Refreshes the current station or album cover immediately after leaving the clock screensaver.
- Improved Last.fm fallback matching by checking up to 10 candidates while retaining strict artist priority and guarded title-only matching. Based on an idea by Volodimyr.
- Added Scott Barber's unchanged FusionEdgePlus2 community MOD with ILI9341 and smaller-display support, automatic tape color changes, and selectable screensaver styles including album-cover art.
Scott Barber MOD
This is a separate, self-contained community snapshot published in appreciation of Scott Barber's extensive work. It is provided as-is and will not track future fixes, changes, or features from the main FusionEdge firmware.
FusionEdge v1.0.8
FusionEdge v1.0.8
- Added a configurable 0-100% brightness level for the While not playing clock screensaver
- Restores the normal display brightness on wake and remains compatible with automatic backlight fading
- Migrates existing configurations automatically with a 100% default, so a full flash erase is not required
Upload the matching v1.0.8 firmware and LittleFS data when upgrading.
FusionEdge v1.0.7
What's changed
- Fixed SD playback metadata handling so embedded artist/title tags trigger album-cover lookup, with the filename retained as a fallback.
- Preserves the last valid SD track across restarts and safely resets an invalid stored index.
- Improved CoverArt fallback lookup and coordination with stream changes.
- Added further DLNA playlist and background-worker stability fixes.
- Added an experimental ESP32-WROVER-E N16R8 compatibility package with its own PlatformIO configuration, example
myoptions.hand setup guide. - Added target-specific PSRAM allocation, wake-mode and GPIO safeguards while keeping the primary ESP32-S3 build unchanged.
ESP32-WROVER note
The ESP32-S3 N16R8 remains the recommended and fully supported target. The classic ESP32-WROVER build is experimental: its WebUI can be slow during playback, and HTTPS streams may fail when the TLS handshake cannot obtain enough contiguous internal RAM.
See the included esp32-wrover-n16r8/README.md for setup instructions and known limitations.
FusionEdge v1.0.6
FusionEdge v1.0.6
Maintenance and stability release.
- Stabilized DLNA browser initialization, category loading, playlist import, and DLNA/WEB playlist switching.
- Improved HTTPS stream reliability by coordinating CoverArt, DLNA, and audio network activity.
- Fetches the largest available Last.fm album image directly, with MusicBrainz and Cover Art Archive retained as fallbacks.
- Gives stream changes priority over background cover downloads and keeps display/audio station state synchronized.
- Improved stream-stall and Wi-Fi reconnection recovery while preserving playback intent.
- Fixed WebUI file-serving races that could crash
player.htmlor freeze display updates. - Fixed automatic backlight fade state handling and invalid legacy settings.
- Prevented GPIO48 conflicts between
LED_BUILTINand NeoPixel output. - Added an optional ESP32-WROVER-E N16R8 PlatformIO configuration.
When upgrading, upload both the firmware and the v1.0.6 LittleFS data.
FusionEdge v1.0.5
What's new
- Added optional current-track album art using Last.fm, MusicBrainz and Cover Art Archive for WEB, SD, DLNA and Bluetooth playback.
- Reworked the DLNA WebUI browser to use asynchronous worker requests, the configured root object ID and paged folder listings.
- Fixed DLNA fallback icons and reliable switching from DLNA back to the WEB playlist.
- Serialized low-priority DLNA and cover-art network work to protect audio playback memory and watchdog responsiveness.
- Prevented connected Bluetooth sources from overwriting metadata outside Bluetooth mode.
Upgrade notes
Upload both the v1.0.5 firmware and the matching LittleFS data. The updated dlna.html must stay in sync with the new firmware endpoints.
Album art is optional. Enable USE_LASTFM_COVER and add LASTFM_API_KEY in myoptions.h to use it.
FusionEdge is now feature-complete. Future releases will focus on confirmed bug fixes and compatibility maintenance.
FusionEdge v1.0.4
