3.3.1
SlamFrames 3.3.1 – HealComm Compatibility Hotfix
This maintenance release addresses an issue reported by the OctoWoW community where players without HealComm-1.0 installed could experience repeated error messages in chat.
SlamFrames does not require HealComm to function. HealComm is an optional library used to support incoming-heal prediction.
What's Fixed
HealComm Chat Spam
Previously, players without HealComm installed could repeatedly receive the following message:
Cannot find a library instance of HealComm-1.0
This occurred because SlamFrames was attempting to retrieve the optional library without first confirming that it was available.
Version 3.3.1 corrects this behavior.
- Checks whether HealComm-1.0 is registered before requesting it.
- Prevents repeated missing-library lookups from generating chat errors.
- Keeps SlamFrames functional when HealComm is unavailable.
- Retains support for compatible HealComm installations.
- Supports detecting the library if it becomes available after initial loading.
Improved Optional Library Handling
Additional safeguards have been implemented for optional libraries:
- HealComm-1.0
- AceEvent-2.0
- RosterLib-2.0
- ItemBonusLib-1.0
SlamFrames now checks library availability before attempting to retrieve these integrations.
Documentation Improvements
- Updated the README with HealComm compatibility information.
- Clarified that HealComm is optional.
- Added installation and troubleshooting guidance.
- Updated the in-game tooltip explaining incoming-heal prediction.
Do I Need HealComm?
No.
SlamFrames works without HealComm, including:
- Player, Target, and Focus Frames
- Pet, Party, and Raid Frames
- Click Casting
- Custom Cast Bars
- Rogue and Druid Combo Points
- Light and Dark Themes
- Frame customization and settings
HealComm is only needed for the compatible library-based incoming-heal prediction functionality.
Players who want that functionality can install a Vanilla 1.12-compatible addon that provides HealComm-1.0 through AceLibrary.
To check HealComm detection, use:
/sf healpredict status

SlamFrames 3.3 — Custom Unit Frames for Vanilla
SlamFrames 3.1 — Party Performance & Resource Bars
SlamFrames 3.1
SlamFrames 3.1 focuses on Party Frame stability, performance, and usability while retaining all of the features and fixes introduced throughout the 3.0 release line.
This release is recommended for anyone currently using SlamFrames 3.0.x.
What's New in 3.1
Party Frame Performance Improvements
The Party Frame system has received a substantial performance pass.
Previous builds could generate large bursts of work when joining a party or during combat, particularly when health, resource, aura, portrait, and roster events fired close together.
3.1 changes Party Frames so updates are handled much more selectively.
Improvements include:
- Health changes update only the affected party member
- Aura changes update only the relevant debuff state
- Mana, Rage, Energy, and Focus updates no longer rebuild the entire Party Frame
- Repeated party roster events are coalesced instead of forcing repeated full refreshes
- Party initialization is staggered to reduce large frame-time spikes when joining a group
- Party portraits are constructed incrementally instead of generating every portrait slice at once
- Repeated Blizzard Party Frame suppression work has been reduced
- Duplicate party events during the initial group refresh are ignored where possible
These changes greatly reduce the chance of hitching during combat and when joining a party.
Party Resource Bars
Party Frames now support resource bars for:
- Mana
- Rage
- Energy
- Focus
The resource bar appears directly below the party member's health bar.
Resource colors automatically update based on the unit's power type.
A new Party setting allows the resource bar to be enabled or disabled:
Party → Resource Bar: ON / OFF
Resource updates are handled independently from the rest of the Party Frame so rapidly changing Rage or Energy does not cause unnecessary full-frame updates.
Improved Party Join Behavior
Joining a group could previously cause a noticeable frame-time spike while all four Party Frames were initialized at once.
3.1 now spreads that initialization work across multiple rendered frames.
This includes portrait construction and other expensive Party Frame setup work.
The result should be a much smoother transition when joining or changing groups.
Fixes Carried Forward from 3.0.1
Normal Mouse Behavior
The Normal click-casting option correctly restores traditional unit-frame behavior.
This includes:
- Normal left-click targeting
- Normal right-click context menus
- Player right-click menu
- Party member right-click menus
- Raid member right-click menus
- Target right-click menus
- Target-of-Target interaction
- Trade
- Whisper
- Inspect
- Follow
- Invite
- Party management options where applicable
- Leave Party options from the Player frame
SlamFrames includes a Vanilla-compatible fallback for environments where the newer secure-frame API is unavailable.
Custom spell and item click-casting assignments continue to work normally.
Fixes Carried Forward from 3.0.2
Click-Casting Defaults
Fresh installations no longer include a preconfigured spell in the click-casting fields.
Left, Right, and Middle Click spell/item fields now begin blank across all modifier layers.
Using Reset All also clears modifier-aware spell and item assignments correctly.
Ornate Cast Bar Cleanup
The finalized Ornate cast bar artwork is included in 3.1.
The Light and Dark skins use their approved individual artwork, with the unwanted internal guide/divider lines removed.
The cast bar retains:
- Orange cast progress
- Spell icons
- Cast timer
- Latency display
- Pushback handling
- Interrupted / Failed feedback
- Channels
- Bandages
- Gathering
- Professions
- World interactions
- Ornate flavor text
The Cast Bar settings page also retains the layout fixes introduced during the 3.0 hotfixes.

Thank You
SlamFrames 3.1 is primarily a stability and performance release.
A large portion of this update came from real-world Party Frame testing, particularly the performance issues that only became obvious once multiple party events, portraits, health updates, and resource updates were happening together during actual gameplay.
Thanks to everyone testing the addon and reporting these edge cases.
More improvements are planned.
SlamFrames 3.0 — Raid Frames, Click Casting & 1080p Support
SlamFrames 3.0
SlamFrames 3.0 is the largest update to SlamFrames so far.
This release expands SlamFrames from a Player / Target frame replacement into a much more complete unit-frame system for OctoWoW / SuperWoW, with fully configurable Party and Raid Frames, click casting, healer-focused features, per-character profiles, and dedicated 1080p artwork.
✨ What's New in 3.0
🛡️ Raid Frames
SlamFrames now includes a complete Raid Frame system supporting:
- 5, 10, 15, 20, and 40-player raids
- Standard and Compact frame styles
- 8 Across, 4 + 4, and 2 Across group layouts
- Adjustable member spacing
- Adjustable horizontal group spacing
- Adjustable group-row spacing
- Adjustable Raid Frame scale
- Adjustable Raid Frame opacity
- Optional group headers
- Class-colored player names
- Percentage, numerical, or hidden health text
- Main Tank indicators
- Raid debuff indicators
- Adjustable debuff glow size
- Light and Dark skin support
- Full Test Frame support
Compact Mode was specifically designed for healers and players who need to fit a full 40-player raid onto the screen without sacrificing visibility.
Raid Frame opacity can also be reduced for DPS players who want raid information available without blocking a large portion of the game world.
🖱️ Click Casting
Party and Raid Frames now support click casting.
You can assign spells and usable items directly to mouse combinations for fast healing and utility without changing targets.
This makes SlamFrames suitable as a lightweight healing-frame solution without requiring a separate healing UI.
💚 Heal Prediction
SlamFrames includes incoming-heal prediction with HealComm support and local prediction fallback.
Incoming healing is displayed directly on supported unit frames so healers can see pending healing before the cast lands.
A diagnostic system is also included for testing HealComm integration.
🎯 Main Tank Identification
Players assigned as Main Tanks by the raid are visually distinguished from other Raid Frames.
The Main Tank treatment works with:
- Standard Raid Frames
- Compact Raid Frames
- Light Skin
- Dark Skin
- Debuff indicators
This allows tanks to remain immediately identifiable during larger encounters.
☠️ Raid Debuff Indicators
Raid Frames can display highly visible debuff warnings.
Debuff types include:
- Magic
- Curse
- Poison
- Disease
The size of the debuff glow can be adjusted from the Raid settings.
🖥️ 4K + 1080p Artwork
SlamFrames was originally designed on a 4K display.
3.0 introduces a dedicated 1080p artwork mode for players using lower-resolution displays.
The 1080p mode includes alternate compatible assets and tighter geometry rather than simply scaling the original artwork.
Both modes support:
- Light Skin
- Dark Skin
- Player Frames
- Target Frames
- Target-of-Target
- Party Frames
- Raid Frames
- Compact Raid Frames
- Cast Bars
- Special portrait decorations
You can switch between 4K and 1080p from the SlamFrames settings.
Changing artwork resolution requires a UI reload.
👤 Per-Character Settings
SlamFrames settings are now stored independently for each character.
This means your healer can use:
- Compact 40-player Raid Frames
- Full opacity
- Healing click binds
while your DPS character can use:
- Smaller Raid Frames
- Reduced opacity
- A completely different layout
without the characters overwriting each other's setup.
Existing settings are migrated automatically.
🎨 UI & Skin Improvements
3.0 also includes a substantial settings-interface cleanup.
- Unified bright-red SlamFrames buttons
- Improved selected and pressed button states
- Light and Dark Compact Raid Frames
- Cleaner Raid configuration controls
- Improved Cast Bar configuration
- Scrollable settings where needed
- Resolution selector
- Improved visual consistency throughout the configuration UI
✨ Special Unit Frames
Rare, Elite, Rare-Elite, and Boss portrait decorations remain supported.
Special frames integrate with the existing SlamFrames Light/Dark skin system and the new resolution system.
🔮 Cast Bar Improvements
The SlamFrames cast bar continues to support:
- Spell icons
- Cast timers
- Latency display
- Pushback handling
- Interrupted / Failed feedback
- Channels
- Bandages
- Gathering
- Professions
- World interactions
There is also now an option to hide Blizzard's redundant red error text while retaining SlamFrames' own failed/interrupted cast feedback.
🧪 Test Frames
SlamFrames includes an extensive Test Frames system so layouts can be configured without joining a group or raid.
Raid testing supports:
- 5 players
- 10 players
- 15 players
- 20 players
- 40 players
- Simulated debuffs
- Simulated Main Tanks
- Class-colored names
- Standard / Compact modes
This makes it possible to configure a full healing UI before entering a raid.

❤️ Thank You
SlamFrames has grown considerably from its original Player and Target frame replacement.
3.0 represents the first version where the Player, Target, Party, Raid, healing, click-casting, cast-bar, skin, and configuration systems come together as one cohesive unit-frame package.
Thank you to everyone testing SlamFrames and reporting issues throughout development.

SlamFrames 2.5.1 - Clean Installation Hotfix
From constantly testing this addon and making changes, I messed up the file structure a bit so anyone installing from fresh had a version that would not load assets properly. Should be fixed in this release.
SlamFrames 2.5
SlamFrames 2.5
SlamFrames 2.5 is a stability and compatibility update focused on several issues discovered through extended gameplay testing on OctoWoW.
This release improves cast-bar timing and state handling, fixes UI layering conflicts, corrects enemy level difficulty colors, strengthens target aura timer rendering, and cleans up Ornate cast-bar flavor text.
What's New in 2.5
Cast-State Isolation
A significant issue was discovered where certain channelled actions — particularly Bandages — could leave stale timing information behind.
For example:
- Throw would display the correct cast timer.
- Using a Bandage would complete normally.
- Throw or Hearthstone afterward could display an incorrect timer.
/reloadwould temporarily fix the problem.
SlamFrames now treats every new cast as a clean timing boundary.
Previous channel, profession, special-action, and pushback state is cleared before the next cast is initialized.
This prevents Bandages and other channelled actions from "poisoning" later cast-bar timing.
Improved Special-Action Cast Timing
Additional timing work has been done for actions that don't behave exactly like normal Vanilla spells.
This includes:
- Throw
- Shoot
- Bandages
- Hearthstone
- Cooking
- Crafting
- Profession actions
- World interactions
SlamFrames now separates normal spell timing from special-action timing rather than forcing everything through the same legacy pushback system.
Normal spells still retain the legacy pushback handling introduced in 2.0.
Fixed Profession / Tradeskill Detection
Some OctoWoW/SuperWoW APIs can expose boolean-like values numerically.
Because Lua considers 0 to be true, this could accidentally cause normal casts to enter SlamFrames' profession timing path.
SlamFrames now explicitly interprets the expected tradeskill values instead.
Dynamic UI Layering
SlamFrames previously had to choose between two undesirable behaviors:
- Unit frames appearing above Blizzard panels such as Blacksmithing and Cooking.
- World/nameplate frames appearing above SlamFrames.
2.5 introduces dynamic frame layering.
During normal gameplay, SlamFrames stays above world/nameplate frames.
When a Blizzard interface panel is opened, SlamFrames automatically moves underneath it.
When the panel closes, SlamFrames returns to its normal layer.
This applies to interfaces such as:
- Blacksmithing
- Cooking
- Character
- Merchant
- Trainer
- Quest panels
- Other standard Blizzard UI panels
Corrected Enemy Level Colors
Enemy level coloring now uses the appropriate Vanilla-style gray-mob threshold based on the player's current level.
This is a dynamic calculation — it is not hardcoded for a particular level range.
For example, a level 15 player fighting a level 10 enemy will correctly see that enemy as green rather than gray because the enemy can still award experience.
As the player levels, SlamFrames recalculates the appropriate difficulty thresholds automatically.
Target Aura Timer Layer Lock
An intermittent issue could cause numeric buff/debuff timers on the Target frame to disappear after extended gameplay even though the aura icons remained visible.
This could occur after SlamFrames dynamically changed frame strata or levels while interacting with other UI elements.
2.5 now explicitly keeps the complete target aura stack synchronized:
- Aura icon
- Cooldown layer
- Numeric timer layer
The numeric timer is re-locked above its aura whenever SlamFrames reconciles its frame layering.
Improved Mining Flavor Text
The Ornate cast bar now treats Mining as an activity rather than constructing a generic targeted-cast sentence.
Previously:
Casting Mining on [Target Name]...
Now:
Mining
This matches the cleaner presentation already used for activities such as Cooking, Fishing, and profession crafting.

For cast-bar issues, include:
- Spell/action name
- Normal cast, channel, item, profession, or world interaction
- Displayed duration
- Expected duration
- What you cast immediately beforehand
- Whether
/reloadtemporarily fixes the issue
For aura issues, include:
- Class
- Buff/debuff name
- Target type
- How the aura was originally applied
- How it was refreshed
- Whether the icon, timer, or both disappeared
Screenshots and reproduction steps are extremely helpful.
SlamFrames 2.5 continues the work started in 2.0 with a focus on making the addon reliable during actual extended gameplay on the OctoWoW client.
Thank you to everyone testing SlamFrames and reporting the strange edge cases that come with pushing a Vanilla-era client this far.
SlamFrames 2.0
SlamFrames 2.0
SlamFrames 2.0 is the first major update to the stable SlamFrames baseline for OctoWoW and compatible Vanilla 1.12-style clients.
What’s new
Rare / Elite / Boss portrait frames
SlamFrames can now automatically decorate selected Rare, Elite, Rare-Elite and Boss targets with dedicated dragon portrait frames.
The new artwork uses a two-layer system:
back decoration → portrait → front bezel/mask → level badge
This keeps the portrait opening clean while preserving the larger dragon artwork around it.
Purple/violet treatment for Rare / Elite targets
Red/crimson treatment for Boss targets
Matching Light and Dark variants
Optional Player decoration
Player artwork automatically mirrors so the dragon faces inward toward the Player bars
Independent name positioning
New horizontal name-position controls make the special frames practical across different scales and personal layouts.
Separate saved sliders are available for:
Player name
Friendly target name
Normal Enemy target name
Rare / Elite / Boss target name
Each ranges from -150 to +150 in 5-pixel steps.
Predictive healing
SlamFrames 2.0 adds incoming-heal visualization with HealComm support and local fallback behavior where appropriate.
Ornate cast bar
The new Ornate cast bar brings a much more complete casting system to SlamFrames:
cast/channel timing
latency region
spell and item icons
profession and world-interaction flavor text
bandage/channel handling
legacy Vanilla/Turtle cast pushback
correct interrupt/failure arbitration
canonical progress rendering
Aura refresh reconciliation
Timed auras that are refreshed or re-stacked can now have their duration reconciled from Nampower refresh events. This fixes cases where an aura icon remained visible but its SlamFrames timer disappeared after the original duration expired.
Compatibility
Built for:
OctoWoW
Vanilla / WoW 1.12-style APIs
SuperWoW-compatible environments
Nampower-enhanced APIs when available
SlamFrames is not intended for Retail WoW or modern Classic clients.
Updating from 1.0
Replace the existing SlamFrames addon folder with the 2.0 release folder.
Your existing SavedVariables are preserved. New 2.0 options receive defaults without requiring you to reset your profile.
Installation

The goal of SlamFrames is to provide a complete replacement for the default Player, Target, and Target-of-Target frames while keeping a visual style that still feels at home in the Vanilla client.

SlamFrames 1.0 ships with the configuration I personally settled on after developing and using the addon.
New installations start with a polished default setup including:
- Dark skin
- 60% frame scale
- Compact frame widths
- Larger health and resource text
- Numeric target aura timers enabled
- Larger target aura icons
- Tight aura row spacing
- Combat glow
- Resting effects
- CC alerts
- Custom Player cast bar
Everything remains configurable through the in-game settings.
Existing users updating to 1.0 keep their SavedVariables.
Compatibility
SlamFrames is designed specifically for the OctoWoW Vanilla 1.12-style client environment.
Some advanced cast and aura timing behavior uses functionality available through SuperWoW and Nampower when present.
This addon is not intended for Retail WoW or modern Classic clients.
