Hypothermia
Hypothermia is a new system that players must manage. Going certain places and doing certain things will cause the player to become colder, experiencing increasing effects and eventually death. The primary way of warming up is to be near a campfire. Setting yourself on fire will work too, but it's a much more risky move as natural regeneration is turned off. Sleeping in a bed near a campfire will also provide additional warmth.
Keeping warm while away from a campfire will require the player to make use of wool, fur, or Netherite armour, obtained from hunting and crafting. Holding "warm items", such as torches, lanterns, campfires, and lava buckets, will also provide some warmth. The Fox and Bear Animal Totems also provide some protection from the cold.
- Stage 0 (warmth between -240 and 0): no side effects.
- Stage 1 (warmth between -480 and -240): slowness 1.
- Stage 2 (warmth between -720 and -480): slowness 1.
- Stage 3 (warmth between -960 and -720): slowness 2.
- Stage 4 (warmth between -1200 and -960): slowness 2 and weakness 1.
- Stage 5 (warmth between -1440 and -1200): slowness 3, weakness 1, and mining fatigue 1.
- Stage 6 (warmth between -1680 and -1440): slowness 4, weakness 2, and mining fatigue 2.
- Stage 7 (warmth between -1920 and -1680): slowness 5, weakness 3, mining fatigue 3, and blindness 1. You will also hear your heartbeat.
- Stage 8 (warmth less than -1920, death stage): slowness 5, weakness 3, mining fatigue 3, blindness 1, and wither 3. You will also hear your heartbeat.
Players in the Lush Taiga (the spawn biome) will only experience hypothermia when they are in water, unless they have the Fish totem.
Players in the Frozen Forest will lose 8 warmth per second, this can be fully negated with a full set of wool, fur, or Netherite armour and holding two warm items.
Players in the Mountains will lose 12 warmth per second, the same warmth that a standard campfire gives the player. Standing near a campfire will fully negate the cooling, and wearing a full set of wool, fur, or Netherite armour will slowly warm the player.
Players in the glacier will lose 18 warmth per second. Unlike other biomes, regular campfires will not work and instead, the player must use soul campfires for warmth. Soul campfires are crafted by placing a regular campfire and an Animal Soul in a shapeless crafting recipe. Refer to the Hunting page for more information on Animal Souls. Players must stand closer to soul campfires to get warmth from them.
