v2.3.0: Extended Storage / New Boot Menu
Improvements
- Improved boot menu
- Now supports up to 128 volumes per SD card - 256 volumes in total.
- Volumes are displayed in pages of 16 volumes per SD card - just like before. Use the cursor keys to move left and right to flip volume pages.
- The update affects the boot program: the boot/configuration disk or the VOLA3... menu file for the DAN][ Controller. The latter needs to be stored on the first SD card of the controller (as VOLA3_....po).
- Using more than 16 volumes/SD card also requires an updated DAN][ Controller firmware (see here - version 3.4.0 or newer).
- No changes to the driver itself.
Fixes
- Corrected checksum in the optional custom Apple /// ROM.
v2.2.0: Improved DAN][ boot disk. Initial custom ROM release.
Improvements
- Release as baseline for the version as demonstrated at CC2023 (Classic Computing 2023, Frankfurt, Germany, Sep 29th/Oct 1st 2023).
- Renamed "config disk" to "boot disk" and aligned boot behavior with the Apple II (shows "DANII: press return", supports quick access keys, space bar, return key).
- Initial release with support for bootstrapping using a custom ROM.
- Includes custom ROM binary and custom boot program for the DAN][ Controller. The latter needs to be stored on the first SD card of the controller (as VOLA3_....po).
- No changes to the driver itself.
- The custom ROM / bootstrapping option still need a lot of documentation.
Fixes
v2.1.0: Improved boot menu
Improvements
- Introduces a new boot menu (ported straight from the current Apple // version).
- Now supports flexible volume configuration: volume 1+2 can now be selected independently of SD card 1+2. However, mapping volume 1 to SD card 2 (or volume 2 to SD card 1) only works with newer firmware of the DAN][ controller (firmware >= 3.0.0).
- Boot menu now supports "interactive configuration" using the arrow keys.
- Boot menu uses colored text mode on the Apple /// (or monochrome green shades :) ). Note: colored text mode has no 'flashing' feature, only inverse text and colors (shades).
- Boot menu supports configuration of the IP address (for the optional WIZnet module). Press 'I' to configure the IP address for the FTP server.
Fixes
v2.0.0: Apple III driver for DAN][ Controller card
Improvements
Fixes
- Fixes compatibility with the latest DAN][ Controller firmware.
The firmware now always evaluates the "Apple II(I) slot" bits in the commands' unit field. The previous driver version didn't set these - which doesn't match what the DAN][ Controller cards expects. This version of the driver now works with DAN][ Controller cards - no matter if older or newer firmware was used.
