Your First Cheat

Tiago Valente edited this page Oct 10, 2026 · 1 revision

This is the method that works on most games. The app can walk you through it: on the Cheats tab press Guide me through my first cheat. This page is the same thing written down, using ammo as the example.

If you would rather practice first, lesson 2 on the Learn page does this on a practice game.

1. Find the number

  1. Look at the game: say you have 30 bullets.

  2. Open the Find tab. Set Type to Auto if you do not know how the game stores it, type 30, and press Search.

On a big game the first search takes a while (a minute or more), because the game has gigabytes of memory. You will usually get a very large number of matches.

  3. Go back to the game and change the value: fire a few shots. Now you have 27.

  4. Type 27 and press Narrow down. Only the places that were 30 and are now 27 remain.

  5. Repeat until a handful are left.

If nothing is left, the game stores the value differently. Start again with another Type, or choose Unknown (I cannot see a number) and narrow with "went down" and "went up" instead of numbers. See Finding Values.

2. Prove you have the right one

Change one of the remaining values (to 99, say) and look at the game. Some games only redraw the number when it changes, so fire a shot before judging. If nothing happens, put it back and try the next.

3. Choose the kind of cheat

  • Hold it at a value. Freeze it from the value's row. Simple, but the value lives somewhere else each time the game starts, so this stops working after a restart.
  • Stop the game from lowering it. This is the lasting kind. Continue below.

4. Find the code that changes it

  1. On the value's row, open the menu and choose Find what writes to this.
  2. Go back to the game and fire a shot.
  3. The app shows the instruction that wrote to the value, for example dec dword ptr [rbx+28h].
  4. Choose Disable it. The instruction is replaced with ones that do nothing, and the result is saved as a switch in Your cheats.

Fire again. If the number stays the same, name the cheat and you are done. If not, switch it off and try the next instruction in the list.

The game hitches for a moment each time the watched value is written; that is normal. Press Stop before closing the page.

5. Keep it

  • Save → Save to PS5 stores your cheats on the console. They load by themselves the next time that game runs, from any device.
  • Save → Save to this device downloads a .cspector file you can share.

When the cheat affects enemies too

Games often use the same code for every character, so "nobody loses health" is the result. The fix is a cheat with a decision in it: see Code Cheats and Scripts, and the What does this touch? tool in Debugging for telling the player's object from the others.
