JKNet v0.10.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 29 Sep 21:49

JKNet 0.10.0 arrives together with the JKNet web app: your friends and chats now follow you to your phone. The launcher also gets a safer sign-in and a reworked attachment menu.

  • Chat from your phone or any browser. Sign in at online.jknet.app and add JKNet to your home screen. Friends see you as online from your phone or in the browser, notifications arrive when you are away from the PC, and hosts decide whether their private server chat is open to web players.
  • Safer browser sign-in. Sign-in is now bound to the launcher that started it. The launcher receives your token only in exchange for a one-time code on its own 127.0.0.1 address, so a sign-in link someone else sends you can no longer hand them your account. Cancel on the waiting screen stops the sign-in.
  • Clearer chat attachments. The attachment menu is split into files, media, game data, settings, and catalogs, with separate Screenshot, Demo, and Video actions. Maps, configs, and player profiles come from all your clients of the selected game in one list that shows where each item comes from. Client and server configs are separate, and JKNet offers to strip secrets from a server config while leaving the choice to you.
  • Featured server mods. The server mod catalog highlights JA+, LugorMod, MakerMod, and JA++.
  • Fixes. A message that arrives while a conversation is opening no longer goes missing. The Devices and sessions card no longer shows the previous account after you sign out and offers Retry if the list fails to load. JKHub links in bundles open only jkhub.org pages.

Download JKNet_0.10.0_x64-setup.exe for Windows x64 or use the built-in update check. Existing settings, clients, profiles, media, and server data are kept. Playing requires your original Jedi Academy or Jedi Outcast files; the installer does not include them.

JKNet v0.9.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 29 Sep 00:55

JKNet 0.9.0 gives you more control over client imports, adds profile import from game configs, and brings the complete release history into the launcher.

  • Choose the contents of an imported client. JKNet shows the source-folder size, the actual amount to copy, required files, and separate sizes for demos, screenshots, configs, and pk3 files. Configs and pk3 files can be selected individually with path search, while copy progress reports the bytes actually processed.
  • Reuse the original game assets. Retail assets*.pk3 files are no longer duplicated. Imported clients use the configured shared game folder, which makes imports much smaller. Optional source-folder removal remains off by default and is available only after selecting and verifying every importable file.
  • Move an imported engine to a managed release. JKNet can install the latest compatible managed engine during import or later from the client card. It keeps the imported engine as a rollback snapshot and restores it if the update fails.
  • Create a player profile from a cfg file. Import a game config to recognize the player name, model, sabers, blade colors, and character tint. JKNet never executes the config and opens the regular profile form for review before saving. UTF-8, UTF-16, Windows-1251, and Windows-1252 are supported.
  • Read the changelog in JKNet. The new Changelog page contains the full release history from 0.1.0 onward in all eight interface languages and works without a network connection.

Download JKNet_0.9.0_x64-setup.exe for Windows x64 or use the built-in update check. Existing settings, clients, profiles, media, and server data are kept. Playing requires your original Jedi Academy or Jedi Outcast files; the installer does not include them.

JKNet v0.8.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 28 Sep 21:53

JKNet 0.8.0 adds portable-client imports and complete local server management.

  • Import an existing client. Choose a ready-to-play Jedi Academy or Jedi Outcast folder. JKNet detects the game and engine, copies the complete installation into managed storage, keeps the source folder unchanged, and adds screenshots and demos to the shared Media library.
  • Run persistent dedicated servers. Each server instance keeps its own engine, mod, maps, configs, and writable data. Start, stop, clone, inspect, or join an instance from the new Servers section.
  • Edit and reuse server configs. Import, edit, export, and share configs for Base, JA+, JAPro, Movie Battles II, Lugormod, and MakerMod. JKNet understands common legacy encodings and safely separates public settings from passwords and private host details.
  • Install server-side mods more reliably. JKNet searches the full JKHub server-side category, handles archives built around a GameData folder, extracts native game modules from PK3 files, and selects a compatible Windows server engine for older mods.
  • Host games with less setup. All installed BSP maps remain available across game modes, selected configs are applied consistently, and the hosting screen keeps common actions visible while moving advanced network settings into a separate section.

Download JKNet_0.8.0_x64-setup.exe for Windows x64 or use the built-in update check. Existing settings, clients, profiles, media, and server data are kept. Playing requires your original Jedi Academy or Jedi Outcast files; the installer does not include them.

JKNet v0.7.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 27 Sep 19:39

JKNet 0.7.1 fixes sending in the chat of version 0.7.0.

  • Messages are sent again. In 0.7.0 every chat message stayed on Sending… and never reached your friends. Messages now go out at once. A message that was stuck in 0.7.0 was never sent: write it again after the update.

Download JKNet_0.7.1_x64-setup.exe for Windows x64 or use the built-in update check. Settings and installed clients are kept. Playing requires your original Jedi Academy or Jedi Outcast files; the installer does not include them.

Chats require signing in to JKNet Online. Messages and files are kept on JKNet Online for 90 days and then deleted; chats are not end-to-end encrypted.

JKNet v0.7.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 26 Sep 16:04

JKNet 0.7.0 includes every finished change since version 0.6.0.

  • Chat with friends. Talk to your JKNet friends one to one or in groups of up to 20, from any screen. The Chats button in the title bar shows your unread messages and opens a chat panel on the right that you can pin beside the page. Message on the Friends screen starts a chat with a friend.
  • Chat window. Move chats into a window of their own, or switch it to a compact window that stays on top of a windowed game, with the opacity you choose.
  • Messages. Reply with a quote, react with emoji, mention friends with @, and see who is typing and who has read your messages. Search the last 90 days of your chats by words, sender, links, pictures, videos, files or cards. Sent messages cannot be edited or deleted.
  • Files and cards. Send pictures, videos, demos, configs and any other file up to 25 MiB, dropped on the chat, pasted from the clipboard or picked from Media. JKNet strips location and camera data from pictures before they leave your PC and asks before saving a program. Share a server, your private server, a bundle, a JKHub mod, a map, a player profile, key binds or a config with Share to chat. Your friends open a card in the matching screen or editor; a card never changes anything on its own.
  • Groups and server chats. Any member can add their friends to a group; the group creator renames it, removes members and decides whether new members see earlier messages. If you prefer, friends must invite you instead of adding you. While your private server runs, the friends who join it through JKNet share a chat that is deleted when the server stops.
  • Notifications. Choose in-launcher pop-ups, Windows notifications and sounds, set Do not disturb and quiet hours, stay quiet while you play and get one summary afterwards, and set each chat to all messages, mentions only or muted. You also choose whether others see your read receipts and typing; hiding yours also hides theirs from you.
  • JKNet in the tray. Closing the JKNet window now keeps JKNet running in the tray, so chats and your private server stay online. Quit from the tray menu with Quit, or make the close button quit again in Settings. JKNet can also start with Windows, hidden in the tray, and starting it a second time brings back the one already running.

Download JKNet_0.7.0_x64-setup.exe for Windows x64 or use the built-in update check.

JKNet v0.6.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 25 Sep 18:41

JKNet 0.6.0 includes every finished change since version 0.5.0.

  • Play with friends. Host a private server on your PC and invite your JKNet friends, with no port forwarding, router setup or VPN. Friends on your network connect directly; friends anywhere else join through the JKNet relay. The new Play with friends screen in the Play group sets the game type, map, player and score limits, bots and password, starts the dedicated server of your client (OpenJK, EternalJK, TaystJK, or JK2MV for Jedi Outcast) and shows who is playing. It stops the server when you ask, when it stays empty, or when you close JKNet.
  • Who can join. Invite friends from the screen or from the Friends panel. Choose who may join without an invite: all friends, only the friends you pick, or nobody, and change it while the server runs. Players without JKNet can join with a console command that the screen copies for you.
  • vstr chains as a tree. On the Binds tab of the config editor, a key whose command runs vstr shows what each press does: the commands it runs, the keys it rebinds, the menus and submenus that open under those keys, and where the chain comes back. Missing variables and loops that would hang the game are marked, and presses can be edited right in the tree. New templates: a three-state cycle and a menu with a submenu.
  • pk3 editor. The pk3 editor from 0.5.0 now opens from a client's pk3 card on the Library screen (Edit) and from pk3 rows in the bundle editor. Text files written with Windows line breaks keep them when you save.
  • Friends connection. Your sign-in token now travels in a request header instead of the address of the live connection.

Download JKNet_0.6.0_x64-setup.exe for Windows x64 or use the built-in update check. Settings and installed clients are kept. Playing requires your original Jedi Academy or Jedi Outcast files; the installer does not include them.

Playing with friends over the internet requires signing in to JKNet Online; playing over your local network works without an account. The first time you host for your local network, Windows may ask whether the server can use your network: choose Allow.

JKNet v0.5.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 24 Sep 21:37

JKNet 0.5.0 includes every finished change since version 0.4.0.

  • Bundles. A bundle is a published recipe for a set of clients: each component names an engine release, the files laid over it, pk3 files from JKHub or from JKNet Online, config documents, a mod folder and launch options. Installing a bundle creates one client per component. The Clients screen gets a Bundles tab with the catalogue of the active game, search, sorting and an engine filter, likes and installs. A version that ships executables is published after a review.
  • Bundle editor. Build a bundle from scratch or from one of your clients: components, engine files, pk3 files from JKHub, the disk or a client, configs and launch options. Every change is saved at once. Test locally installs the draft as clients on your machine before anything is uploaded, and Publish sends it to JKNet Online.
  • Descriptions. A bundle description is written in a visual editor and stored as Markdown, with tables, pictures and YouTube videos. The name, the summary and the description can be translated into every language of the launcher.
  • Single player. A client on OpenJK now starts the single-player campaign too: its card shows Play single player next to Launch.
  • Everything inside a pk3. The preview of a library file, a JKHub entry or a bundle file lists the whole archive: maps, level shots, splash screens, menu and HUD images, textures, fonts, characters, hilts, weapons, sounds, translation strings, shaders, effects, menus, configs and scripts. Pictures open in a gallery, strings as a table by language, text files in a read-only code view. Library cards show badges for what an archive holds.
  • pk3 editor. Open a pk3 of a bundle draft or of a client's library to edit text files in their own code page, replace a picture while keeping its format, add, rename, remove and extract files and folders. Save rewrites the archive safely and keeps the old one if anything fails.
  • Languages. The bundle screens and the pk3 preview are translated into Russian. In the other languages of the launcher, and in the pk3 editor, they appear in English for now.

Download JKNet_0.5.0_x64-setup.exe for Windows x64 or use the built-in update check. Settings and installed clients are kept. Playing requires your original Jedi Academy or Jedi Outcast files; the installer does not include them.

Browsing and installing bundles works without an account. Publishing a bundle requires signing in to JKNet Online.

JKNet v0.2.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 10 Sep 11:21

Download the JKNet_0.2.0_x64-setup.exe installer from the assets. An installed 0.1.x launcher updates itself.

  • The server browser counts humans and bots separately: the PLR column shows both numbers, and sorting goes by humans.
  • The Hide bot-only servers filter removes servers where only bots play.
  • A bot in the player list carries the BOT tag.
  • Map names are lower-cased: MP/FFA3 and mp/ffa3 are one map.
  • The server table shows the map picture. The launcher takes it from the player's own pk3 archives and never writes into the game folder.
  • The Rebuild button on the Settings screen rebuilds the map picture index.
  • The caption on a map picture sits on a dark plate and stays readable on any image.
  • The server table freezes while polling, so rows do not re-sort under the cursor.
  • A shield over the table shows how many servers have already answered.
  • The launcher signs in to the JKNet hub through the browser and keeps the account: the Account card on the Settings screen renames, signs out and deletes the data from the hub.
  • The Friends screen shows friends, requests and invites, and Join game launches the default client straight onto the friend's server.
  • In this version the account and friends are disabled: the JKNet hub service is not open yet. The next update enables them on its own.
  • The Hub address field on the Account card enables the account and friends for one machine: for a developer or the owner of their own hub.
  • The first run takes three steps: the game folder, the first client and the account.

JKNet v0.4.0

Choose a tag to compare

@TrayHard TrayHard released this 13 Sep 15:58

JKNet 0.4.0 includes every finished change since version 0.3.0.

  • Client compatibility. The launcher takes the OS and the system architecture into account. On Windows x64 it picks the x64 build of OpenJK, TaystJK or JK2MV and falls back to x86 when there is none. On Windows x86 only x86 builds are offered. Automatic installation on unsupported systems is blocked with an explanation. The check also applies to updates; the cache is split by architecture.
  • Communities. Permanent server pages with a description, rules, a website, Discord and JKHub recommendations. Ownership is confirmed with a code in the server name or by manual approval. The pages are available in the launcher and on the website.
  • Install everything and join. The launcher installs the server's recommendations into the selected client and connects when done. Matching files are kept; a conflict stops the queue so that you can choose what to do.
  • Library. Cards of the stock maps show the levelshots from the game files. Search matches the map title and the BSP file name, including the path and the name without an extension.
  • Eight languages. The compatibility explanations and the communities UI are available in English, German, Spanish, French, Hungarian, Polish, Russian and Ukrainian.

Download JKNet_0.4.0_x64-setup.exe for Windows x64 or use the built-in update check. Settings and installed clients are kept. Playing requires your original Jedi Academy or Jedi Outcast files; the installer does not include them.

The compatibility check covers the OS and the architecture. Video driver requirements and the requirements of individual mods are checked separately.
