Orders, Returns and Payouts

The rules that cost somebody money, in one place. They are enforced by the API, in server/config/commerce.ts and server/config/pricing.ts; the pages only show what the API will accept.

An order's life

Order Confirmed ─► Processing ─► Shipped ─► Out for Delivery ─► Delivered
       │ │ │ │
       └────────────────┴────────────┴───────────────┴──► Cancelled
Stage Who sets it
Order Confirmed Automatic, when the order is placed
Processing, Shipped The seller, or an administrator
Out for Delivery, Delivered An administrator only

Once an order is past Shipped, the seller can no longer change it. An order with books from several sellers is one order number; each seller moves their own books.

Who can cancel, and until when

Who Can cancel Until
Buyer The whole order It leaves Order Confirmed
Seller Their own books in it It is Shipped
Administrator Everything left in it It is Delivered

Cancelling puts the stock back on sale and notifies the others in the order, with the reason if one was given. A cancelled book is never charged for. If every book in an order is cancelled, there is no delivery charge either.

Prices and charges

  • Sale price: a seller's discount is a percentage or a taka amount, at most 90% off. Checkout charges the sale price.

  • Delivery: 70 Tk for Dhaka district, 120 Tk for everywhere else. The server works this out from the district, so a request cannot name its own price.

  • Promo codes (one per order, priced by the server):

    Code Gives
BookStoreBD 50 Tk off a first order
FreeDelivery Free delivery on 1000 Tk of books
  • Stock is reserved the moment the order is placed. If a book sells out in the meantime, the rest of the order goes through and the buyer is told which book was left out.

Returns

  • Ask within 7 days of delivery, for one book or a whole order.
  • A request needs a description, at least one photo, and a bKash number for the refund.
  • An administrator approves or rejects it. The buyer and the seller are told.
  • Approved: the buyer sends the book with a courier the shop pays for, and the book's price is refunded within 15 working days of arrival. Delivery is not refunded.

Seller payouts

A sale is paid once it can no longer be returned. Paying earlier would mean clawing money back whenever a book came back.

State Means
Awaiting delivery Not delivered yet
In return window Delivered; payable once 7 days have passed
Return in progress On hold while a return request is decided
Returned Approved return: nothing paid, no fee
Due Ready to pay
Paid Sent, with the bKash transaction ID

The seller receives the books' price minus 5%, by bKash, to the merchant number on their profile. Delivery charges are not included.
