V12.1
Quick fix for V12: you can now stop a download, the update check no longer fails with "no internet" when a tracked edition has left the server, and the song counter counts editions like 3111.
Fixes
- You can stop a download. After clicking Download now there was no way to cancel except closing the whole program. The big blue button now turns into a red Stop button while songs are downloading. Stopping keeps every song that already finished and removes the half-downloaded file (it would otherwise sit on your disk at its full size). Run the check again whenever you want to continue - nothing is downloaded twice.
- "No internet" popup when
nextis tracked. The JD Next maps were moved from their ownnextfolder into the normal edition folders on the server, so thenextfolder is gone. The update check treated that as a lost connection and refused to check anything - including your other editions. It now skips an edition that is no longer on the server, says so ("Not on the server anymore, so skipped: ..."), and asks whether to stop tracking it. Your downloaded songs always stay on your PC. (Look for the songs in their normal editions, such as Decades of Hits, and track them there.) - "Tracking: N songs" ignored some editions. An edition the community sheet doesn't list (3111 Just Dance Wii, the old
next) counted as zero. The counter now uses the server's own song list for those, or the files you already have. - View tracked now shows those editions. They used to be missing, or listed in red as "downloaded, not tracked". They now appear as normal tracked editions.
Everything else is unchanged from V12
Song backups, the replaced-songs list, the antivirus fix and the signed-installer check are all still there.
Upgrading
- From V10 or later: click the Update Available button, or download
LegacyDownloaderV12.1.zipbelow and extract it over your old folder (keep yourconfig.txt). - From V9.x or earlier: delete everything in your old install folder except
config.txt, then extract this zip into that same folder.
Getting started
- Download
LegacyDownloaderV12.1.zipbelow and extract it anywhere. - Double-click
LegacyDownloader-GUI.bat. - Follow the on-screen setup - or open the tutorial for a full walkthrough.
Requirements
Windows with PowerShell 5.1 (built into every modern Windows install). Nothing else to install - rclone.exe ships inside the zip (its license notice is in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt).
Antivirus note
Some antivirus programs have flagged a release zip as a trojan shortly after it was published. It is a false positive: the zip contains only the PowerShell scripts in this repository, language files, an icon, two .bat launchers, and the official rclone.exe (which a few engines flag as a "hacktool" because it can copy files from the internet - it is the official, unmodified build). You can verify the download against the SHA-256 shown next to the asset on this page, or read the source in this repository first.
V12
A safety net for songs an update replaces, far fewer antivirus false positives on the download itself, and a few fixes.
What's new
- Songs an update replaces are backed up first. If a download would replace a song file you already have (same file name, different size) - usually an official re-upload, but also what happens to your own modified copy of an official song - the old file is first moved to a
.legacydownloader-backupsfolder inside your game folder, so nothing is lost. Old backups clean up after themselves: ones older than 30 days are deleted, and so are the oldest ones once the folder passes 5 GB (the newest set is always kept). In Settings there is a new Song backups section to switch backups off, change the 30 days / 5 GB limits, and Open backup folder. To get a song back, copy it from the backup folder into the matching folder undermaps. - The update check shows which songs would be replaced. The update check window says "N of these replace a different copy..." and lists those songs with checkboxes. Checked (the default) replaces the file, with the backup above. Unchecked keeps your version: the song is marked Keep my version and updates never replace it. The console shows the same warning.
Fixes
- Fewer antivirus false positives on the zip. Some antivirus programs (those built on Bitdefender's engine: Bitdefender, G Data, eScan, Emsisoft, VIPRE, Arcabit) flagged the V11.4 zip as a generic "downloader" the moment it was scanned. The cause was the self-updater's helper: it both swapped folders and started the app again from the same script, which looks like a dropper to that heuristic. The "start the app again" step now lives in its own small file (
bin\Relaunch.ps1). Updating itself behaves exactly as before. - The GUI launcher keeps PowerShell visible instead of hidden (a precaution). A hidden PowerShell started with the execution policy bypassed is a pattern antivirus programs dislike, so
LegacyDownloader-GUI.batnow leaves PowerShell's own window minimised. You will see a small PowerShell button on the taskbar while the tool is open (closing the tool closes it). The tool's own window opens normally. - Downloaded requirement installers are verified before they run. When the Requirements button downloads a Microsoft installer (Visual C++ redistributables, the Kinect SDKs), the file must carry a valid Microsoft signature, otherwise it is deleted and you get the official download link to install it yourself. Installers that ship inside the game's own
Supportfolder are used as before. - No more phantom editions in the song picker. A stray
.ipkdropped inmaps\or in a sub-folder used to show up as an "edition" namedmapsor after the sub-folder. Only songs directly inside amaps\<edition>folder count now, and the song count on the main window agrees with the picker. - Narrowing an edition that is only on the share now asks about deleting. For an edition the community sheet doesn't list (such as 3111, Just Dance Wii), unticking some of its songs - not all of them - never offered the Delete the files / Keep the files / Cancel prompt. It does now.
- Settings and the update check fit small screens. On a small or scaled display those windows could be taller than the screen, with the buttons out of reach. They now scroll, with Save / Download now / Cancel always visible.
- The "Custom share URL" hint in Settings is no longer cut off in Portuguese and Russian.
One thing to know
A modified copy of an official song (for example a custom map you made by replacing adeyyo_pc.ipk) still counts as that official song: an update replaces it with the server's file, and "Delete the files" can remove it. What changed is that the update check now tells you, and the replaced file is kept in the backup folder. Mark the song Keep my version (or untick it in the update check) to protect it from both. Songs that are not on the server at all (your own custom codenames) are never touched by updates, and not by "Delete the files" either.
Everything else is unchanged from V11.4
Whole-edition delete that spares your own songs and the deletion log, Keep my version, the single Delete / Keep / Cancel prompt, the song picker listing editions that are only on the share (3111), the self-update progress window and the update check that no longer hits GitHub's rate limit are all still there.
Upgrading
- From V10 / V11 / V11.1 / V11.2 / V11.3 / V11.4: click the Update Available button. If your network is one that hit the 403 on V10/V11, it may not appear until the hourly limit resets - in that case download
LegacyDownloaderV12.zipbelow and extract it over your old folder (keep yourconfig.txt). - From V9.x or earlier: delete everything in your old install folder except
config.txt, then extract this zip into that same folder.

V11.4
Small fix release: dropping a whole edition and choosing Delete the files no longer deletes songs of your own, and every deletion is now written to a log.
Fixes
- "Delete the files" no longer wipes custom songs. When you untick a whole edition in Select maps / songs and choose Delete the files, V11.3 and older removed the entire
maps\<edition>folder - including a custom song you had added there yourself. Now only songs the song server (or the community sheet) knows are deleted. Anything else in that folder - a custom map, other files, sub-folders - is left in place, and so is the folder itself. The prompt says how many songs will really be deleted (instead of "all songs") and tells you that your own songs are never touched. If nothing in the folder is known, nothing is offered for deletion. - Every deletion is recorded. Each file the prompt deletes - and each file it leaves alone - is added to
bin\logs\deleted-files.txtwith a timestamp, so if something is ever missing there is a record of what happened. (It is kept separate from the run logs, which are trimmed automatically.)
Both front-ends (GUI and console) behave the same, the new note is translated into all 13 languages, and the README and tutorials describe it.

You can verify the download against the SHA-256 shown next to the asset on this page, or read the source in this repository first.
V11.3
Small fix release: an edition that is on the share but missing from the community song sheet - 3111, Just Dance Wii - now shows up in the song picker.
Fixes
- "Select maps/songs…" (Specific mode) did not list every edition on the share. The picker built its edition list only from the community Google sheet, so an edition the sheet has no rows for - 3111 (Just Dance Wii) - was invisible and could not be ticked (Everything mode still downloaded it). The picker now also lists every edition found on the share; such songs appear by file name (for example
3111/dial6700_pc.ipk), like other songs the sheet doesn't know. The console picker does the same. - Edition 3111 now has its proper name, "Just Dance Wii", instead of "3111 (check in-game songlist)".
Everything else is unchanged from V11.2
Keep my version, the single Delete / Keep / Cancel prompt, the self-update progress window and the update check that no longer hits GitHub's rate limit are all still there - see the V11.2 notes. (The tutorial screenshots still say "V11" in the title bar; that is the only difference.)

V11.2
Quick fix for V11: the self-updater's progress window no longer looks stuck or disappears at 100%.
Fixes
- The update window said 100% and then seemed to freeze or vanish. The 100% only covered the download. Verifying and unpacking the new version still had to happen, and during that time the window sat frozen at 100% (and could even show "Not Responding" on a slow disk or with real-time antivirus), then closed before anything else appeared. The window now shows each stage — Verifying download, Unpacking update (with a real percentage), Checking the new version, Update ready. Restarting — keeps responding throughout, and stays on screen until the update window has opened, so there is no blank gap.
Everything else is unchanged from V11.1
Keep my version, the single Delete / Keep / Cancel prompt, the update check that no longer hits GitHub's rate limit, and all the V11 fixes are still there — see the V11.1 notes. (The tutorial screenshots still say "V11" in the title bar; that is the only difference.)

V11.1
Quick fix for V11: the in-app update check no longer fails with "403 Forbidden" on shared networks.
Fixes
- The update check could fail with "403 Forbidden" / "limiting requests". The check asked GitHub's REST API, which allows only 60 unauthenticated requests per hour per IP address. People behind a shared address — a VPN, Cloudflare WARP (1.1.1.1), or a carrier-grade-NAT ISP — used that up before the tool ever got a turn, so the Update Available button never appeared and Check now in Settings showed a 403. The tool now asks GitHub's ordinary website which release is latest (not rate limited), confirms the zip exists, and only falls back to the API if that fails. If GitHub still refuses, the message now says what is going on and points to the Releases page.
Everything else is unchanged from V11
Keep my version, the single Delete / Keep / Cancel prompt, the visible update window and all the V11 fixes are still there — see the V11 notes. (The tutorial screenshots still say "V11" in the title bar; that is the only difference.)

V11
Legacy Offline PC downloader/updater, built on rclone. V11 adds a way to protect songs you've modified yourself, a single clear prompt when you untick songs you've already downloaded, and fixes several update and layout problems.
What's new in V11
- Keep my version. Converted a map to 1080p, or otherwise modified a song? Open Select maps / songs, click the song's row (not its checkbox) and click Keep my version. The song stays tracked, but updates never overwrite your file — it gets a ✓ in the new Kept column, and clicking again releases it. Kept songs are also never deleted by the unticking prompt below. Only songs already on your computer can be kept; a kept song you delete yourself is simply fetched again. (Console picker: F7 on the song.) Saved as
KEEPSONGSinconfig.txt. - One prompt when you untick downloaded songs. Instead of a separate Yes/No for every edition, you're now asked once for everything you unticked: Delete the files, Keep the files, stop updating, or Cancel to leave your picks unchanged. It only lists things that actually have files on disk.
- The self-update window is visible. When the tool updates itself, a small window now shows what it's doing instead of running hidden in the background.
- Tutorials updated in all 13 languages: new screenshots of the main window, song picker, Settings, the "Ready to Play" prompt and the "Update available" dialog, plus the new features above.
Fixes
- Self-updating now works when the tool sits at the root of a drive (e.g.
D:\) or in any folder whose path ends in a backslash — the update used to close the tool and never start. - A failed self-update now rolls back more reliably (it copes with antivirus briefly locking files), and if an update is ever interrupted mid-swap the launchers put the previous version back so the tool still starts.
- The update package is checked before extraction, and a hostile song name can no longer smuggle extra options into rclone.
- The song picker no longer shows songs that exist on the share but aren't in the community song list as unchecked when their whole edition is tracked (display-only — nothing was ever mis-downloaded).
- Settings window: the footer hints no longer run off the edge and overlap in longer languages (e.g. German).
- "Ready to Play" prompt: the last words of longer translations (e.g. Filipino) are no longer cut off.
- Song picker: button labels no longer have their descenders (g, p, y) clipped, and the Keep my version button no longer collides with the toolbar when the window is made narrow.
- The README no longer claims Select maps / songs works while Everything is selected.
Upgrading
From V10, click the V11 Update Available button next to Settings — the tool updates itself and reopens. (You can also turn the automatic check off in Settings.)
From V9.x or earlier: delete everything in your old install folder except config.txt, then extract this zip into that same folder. Your saved game folder, song selections, and language are picked up automatically.
Getting started
- Download
LegacyDownloaderV11.zipbelow and extract it anywhere. - Double-click
LegacyDownloader-GUI.bat. - Follow the on-screen setup — or open the tutorial for a full walkthrough.
Requirements
Windows with PowerShell 5.1 (built into every modern Windows install). Nothing else to install — rclone.exe ships inside the zip (its license notice is in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt). (Or Linux with PowerShell Core + rclone on your PATH — console only; the self-updater checks for updates there too but never applies them automatically, since the release zip doesn't ship a Linux rclone binary — see the README's "Running on Linux" section.)
Antivirus note
Some people's Windows Defender has flagged a release zip as a trojan shortly after it was published (V10 was hit by a cloud "reputation" detection on the brand-new file). It is a false positive: the zip contains only the PowerShell scripts in this repository, language files, an icon, two .bat launchers, and the official rclone.exe. If your antivirus quarantines it, you can verify the download against the SHA-256 shown next to the asset on this page, or read the source in this repository first.
V10
Legacy Offline PC downloader/updater, built on rclone. V10 adds Quick Launch, a real Settings window, an in-app self-updater, a real app icon, and an always-on troubleshooting log — the biggest jump since V9.
What's new in V10
- Quick Launch. After a successful check/update, both front-ends now offer to launch
Legacy.exedirectly instead of just telling you to do it yourself. - Auto-check on startup. A new Settings option checks for game updates automatically when you open the tool (existing installs only, never during first-run setup) — combined with Quick Launch's auto-launch option, you can go from opening the tool to playing with zero clicks.
- A real Settings window. Click Settings on the main window (or [5] Settings in the console menu, which opens
config.txtin your default text editor):- Auto-launch — skip the Quick Launch prompt entirely, launch and close automatically.
- Auto-check on startup — described above.
- Download speed limit — a real bandwidth cap, in MB/s (new capability, didn't exist before).
- Custom share URL — now a real field, and it accepts the friendly Nextcloud share link you'd actually copy, not just the raw WebDAV path.
- Check for LegacyDownloader updates automatically — see below.
- Self-updater. LegacyDownloader can now check for its own newer releases and update itself in place — no more manually downloading a new zip and extracting it over your old folder. Every update still requires a manual click; nothing installs itself without your say-so.
- A real app icon, in every window's title bar and the taskbar.
- An always-on troubleshooting log. Every check and download now writes a real log file to
bin\logs\automatically — no setting to turn on, nothing to remember before something goes wrong. Capped at the newest 30 runs so it never grows unbounded.
Fixes
- The activity log box no longer narrows itself whenever its scrollbar appears — it now always uses the full width and tracks to the latest line automatically.
Upgrading from V9.x or earlier?
Delete everything in your old install folder except config.txt, then extract this new zip into that same folder. Your saved game folder, song selections, and language are picked up automatically. This is the last time you'll need to do it manually — from V10 onward, the in-app self-updater can handle it for you.
Getting started
- Download
LegacyDownloaderV10.zipbelow and extract it anywhere. - Double-click
LegacyDownloader-GUI.bat. - Follow the on-screen setup — or open the tutorial for a full walkthrough.
Requirements
Windows with PowerShell 5.1 (built into every modern Windows install). Nothing else to install — rclone.exe ships inside the zip. (Or Linux with PowerShell Core + rclone on your PATH — console only; the self-updater checks for updates there too but never applies them automatically, since the release zip doesn't ship a Linux rclone binary — see the README's "Running on Linux" section.)
V9.3
Quick follow-up to V9.2 - a crash fix, plus internal cleanup and a real speed-up in the Software Requirements checker from a code review.
Fixes
- A crash switching to "Specific" song mode on a fresh install. If you hadn't downloaded any songs yet (still on "Everything"/AUTO) and switched the main window's mode to "Specific," the song picker could crash with an unhandled exception. Fixed.
- The Software Requirements dialog now appears instantly instead of pausing for up to a second first. Its startup scan was measured at ~850-1000ms of dead time before the window even showed up; that work now happens after the window appears, and a repeated internal check that used to re-scan from scratch each time is now ~3x faster on its own.
- Assorted internal robustness cleanup from the same review (shared install-orchestration code across the GUI and console, data-driven requirement detection instead of hardcoded per-item logic, a few small perf/duplication fixes) - no other visible behavior change.
Upgrading from V9.2?
Just extract this zip over your existing install folder (or delete everything except config.txt first, then extract) - your settings carry over automatically.
Getting started
- Download
LegacyDownloaderV9.3.zipbelow and extract it anywhere. - Double-click
LegacyDownloader-GUI.bat. - Follow the on-screen setup - or open the tutorial for a full walkthrough.
Requirements
Windows with PowerShell 5.1 (built into every modern Windows install). Nothing else to install - rclone.exe ships inside the zip. (Or Linux with PowerShell Core + rclone on your PATH - console only, no Requirements checker there yet - see the README's "Running on Linux" section.)
V9.2
A reliability fix: Legacy.exe, the Kinect DLLs, and the bundle/patch files could silently stop receiving updates forever, even though the updater said everything was up to date.
Fixes
Legacy.exe/ Kinect DLLs could get stuck on an old version forever. The updater's "this file might be modded — keep it or take the update?" checklist always defaulted to "keep," so anyone who clicked "Download Now" without reading it kept their old copy of these files on every single release, with no sign anything was wrong. Fixed: the updater now remembers exactly what it last installed for you, and only asks again if something has actually changed the file since — it no longer asks about (or freezes) files you never touched.bundle_pc.ipkandpatch_pc.ipkare now protected the same wayLegacy.exeand the Kinect DLLs always were — if you've modified one, it won't get silently overwritten on the next update.- A related fix in the console front-end: a failed or interrupted update could get mistakenly remembered as "successfully installed," which would then stop future updates from ever correcting it. It's now only remembered that way if the download actually completed.
Upgrading from V9.1?
Just extract this zip over your existing install folder (or delete everything except config.txt first, then extract) — your settings carry over automatically. On your first "Check for Updates" after upgrading, you may see one extra confirmation for Legacy.exe/Kinect DLLs/bundle+patch files if any are currently out of date — that's a one-time step so the updater can learn what's already on your machine. After that it stays out of your way.
