@VernaTeam VernaTeam released this 13 Oct 10:01

Test the servers yourself, and choosing a country works properly again.

Every file installs over 1.0.6 and keeps your settings and subscriptions.

Changed

  • Test the servers whenever you like, from the locations list or inside a
    country, and watch it run.
  • Choosing a country now uses all of its servers, and connects elsewhere —
saying so — only if none of them work.
  • Countries are listed fastest first, and the list fills about twice as fast.

@VernaTeam VernaTeam released this 13 Oct 02:38

A server you pick is no longer the only one tried, and the app tells you when the network is the problem.

Every file installs over 1.0.5 and keeps your settings and subscriptions.

Changed

  • Picking a server by hand is no longer all-or-nothing. It is still tried
first, on its own — but if it turns out to be dead, the app keeps looking
instead of reporting failure. Free servers often die between the moment the
list is drawn and the moment a row is tapped.
  • The app now tells you when the network, not the server, is the problem.
Measured across four days: a connection attempted within two minutes of a
failure succeeded about 5% of the time, while waiting a couple of minutes
raised that to around 39%. From the second failure in a row, the app says
so. The button still works — nothing is blocked or delayed.

The server list tells you what works, and switching networks costs fewer attempts.

Every file installs over 1.0.4 and keeps your settings and subscriptions.

Changed

  • Opening a country in Locations now measures that country's servers, so
the rows show a real ping from your own phone instead of "Not tested".
Working servers sort to the top, fastest first.
  • The app remembers which servers worked per network, and no longer mixes
a result from Wi-Fi with one from mobile data — or one operator's with
another's. Switching networks wastes fewer attempts.

Connects more often on the first try, and never claims a tunnel that is not there.

Every file installs over 1.0.3 and keeps your settings and subscriptions.

Fixed

  • Connecting succeeds far more often on the first try.
  • The app no longer shows "Protected" when nothing is connected.
  • Live speed reads in bytes, kilobytes or megabytes.

Every file installs over 1.0.2 and keeps your settings and subscriptions.

Changed

  • The VPN key appears later. Android shows that key the moment a tunnel exists, and the app proves a tunnel carries traffic before it says Protected. That check used to take seven seconds; it now takes about three, because the part of it that had already been answered is no longer asked twice.
  • The ping is measured properly on mobile data. One slow attempt used to throw away the whole measurement, so phones on mobile networks were shown a number taken outside the tunnel instead of inside it.
  • Before you connect, the map shows where you actually are — your country and your address — instead of mixing the country you picked with the address you have. The country you picked is still named in the card above the map.

New in Settings

  • An anonymous id for this install, with a Reset button. A random number, not taken from anything about your phone, used only to group this install's own reports. Resetting it makes earlier reports unlinkable from later ones.
  • The sharing switch now says what it actually sends: which servers worked, how long each connection lasted and how much it moved, and failed attempts with their reason. No IP, no precise location, and nothing about what you did inside the tunnel. Your own subscriptions are never sent.

A small pass over the connect screen, from using 1.0.1 on a phone.

verna-vpn-1.0.2-x86_64.apk Emulators
verna-vpn-1.0.2-universal.apk Any device (larger)

Every file here installs over 1.0.1 and 1.0.0 and keeps your settings and subscriptions.

Changed

  • Your own country is visible on the map before you connect, instead of being drawn in the same colour as the rest of the land.
  • The map keeps showing it while the app is connecting, rather than going blank until the tunnel is up.
  • Live speed: the graph stays behind the numbers and out of their way.
  • The status line sits midway between the power button and the location card, at any point of scrolling.
  • The update notice is one line.
  • Your address is retried a few times when it cannot be read at first — which happens for a few seconds after a disconnect, and while another VPN app is running.

Fixes from a week of real use, and an update check so the next one finds you.

File For
verna-vpn-1.0.1-arm64-v8a.apk Most phones — try this first
verna-vpn-1.0.1-armeabi-v7a.apk Older 32-bit phones (e.g. Galaxy J7)
verna-vpn-1.0.1-x86_64.apk Emulators
verna-vpn-1.0.1-universal.apk Any device (larger)

Every file here installs over 1.0.0 and keeps your settings and subscriptions. If Android says "App not installed", uninstall first.

Fixed

  • The connection after a disconnect is no longer slower. Two separate causes: a full server sweep used to start the instant the tunnel went down, so a reconnect raced it — and the timings a server is chosen by were measured in that traffic. And the reconnect lost this phone's memory of which servers are good here, because the network could not be identified while Android still held the old VPN network open.
  • Disconnect stays disconnected. A core that reported itself running just after a deliberate disconnect was being adopted as a live tunnel. It is now stopped.
  • No VPN key in the status bar while searching. Each candidate used to bring up a real tunnel to be tested. They are now checked through a local proxy, and Android is only asked for a VPN interface once a server has passed.

New

  • Update check. Settings → Check for updates asks GitHub for the newest release and opens the file that matches your phone in your browser. Nothing is downloaded or installed by the app. It also asks once at launch when a new version exists, and does not ask again for a version you declined.
  • An event log that survives. Diagnostics keeps a record on the device — connections, failures, network changes, crashes — including everything from before the app was last closed, with one button to copy it. It never leaves the phone unless you send it.

Changed

  • Live speed reads with direction arrows, a fixed unit and a half-minute graph.
  • Ping has its own card, with what the number means; the protocol card now carries the healthy-server count.
  • Before you connect, the map shows your own address and country; connected, it shows where your traffic comes out.

Installing over the beta works: every file in this release upgrades any beta build. If Android says "App not installed", uninstall first.

What's in it

  • Servers tested on your phone, not just on ours. Each one is measured from your own network before it is offered, and the fastest wins.
  • A live map. Pick a country and the map flies to it; connected, it shows where your traffic comes out.
  • Verna subscriptions built in, each with its healthy-server count. You can add your own; those never leave the phone.
  • Locations by country, with the ping this phone measured and one tap into that country's servers.
  • Usage and protected time, kept on the device and reported to nobody.
  • English and Persian, light and dark.
  • Optional anonymous test results help rank servers for everyone. Switch it off in Settings.

To update, install the same file type over your current copy. If Android says "App not installed", uninstall first.

What's new

  • Verna subscriptions built in and on by default, each with its healthy-server count. No publisher names anywhere.
  • Connecting compares the servers that worked before with the rest and picks the fastest.
  • Closing the app from recents no longer shows it disconnected while the VPN is on.
  • Try again retries the server you picked.
  • Optional anonymous test results help rank servers for everyone. Your own subscriptions are never sent. Switch off in Settings.
