DW2-PC v0.1.5

Choose a tag to compare

@Wyrelade Wyrelade released this 10 Oct 13:18

Healing items and healing skills heal in battle again.

You need your own copy of the game. The downloads contain no game data. Updating: v0.1.4
updates itself at start (Update now); older versions: unpack over the old folder, your saves,
settings and data pack stay.

Fixed

  • In battle, healing items and healing skills counted as attacks on PC (their negative power was
    read as a positive number). They now work as on the PlayStation. The same kind of mistake is
    fixed for 15 more game functions that return small numbers.

@Wyrelade Wyrelade released this 10 Oct 08:20

The game can now update itself.

You need your own copy of the game. The downloads contain no game data. Updating from an
older version: unpack over the old folder; your saves, settings and data pack stay.

New

  • When a new version is out, the start offers Update now, Download page or Not now.
    Update now downloads the new version, checks its signature, installs it and restarts the game.
  • Off in F1 > Game or with --no-update-check.

v0.1.3 and older cannot update themselves: download this one by hand once.

DW2-PC v0.1.3

@Wyrelade Wyrelade released this 10 Oct 07:56

The game now tells you when a new version is out.

You need your own copy of the game. The downloads contain no game data. On the first start
the port checks your disc image (USA, SLUS-01193) and builds its data pack from it. Updating from
an older version: unpack over the old folder; your saves, settings and data pack stay.

New

  • Update check: at start, before anything else, the game asks GitHub whether a newer release
    exists (it waits at most 3 seconds). If there is one, a box asks "Update found": Yes opens the
    download page and closes the game so you can unpack the new version over the old folder;
    "No, play now" starts the game. The title screen and the F1 window also show the new version,
    with a button to the download page. Nothing is downloaded or installed by the game.
  • Switch it off in F1 > Game ("Check for updates at start") or with --no-update-check. The
    check sends GitHub the same kind of request a web browser does (your IP address, the program
    name and version), nothing else. On Linux it uses the system's libcurl if it is installed.
  • --version prints the version.

This is the first version with the check, so v0.1.2 and older will not tell you about this
release. From now on, new versions show up by themselves.

@Wyrelade Wyrelade released this 10 Oct 07:05

Bug fix release: opening the item server or the important items no longer crashes the game.

You need your own copy of the game. The downloads contain no game data. On the first start
the port checks your disc image (USA, SLUS-01193) and builds its data pack from it. Updating from
v0.1.0 or v0.1.1: unpack over the old folder; your saves, settings and data pack stay.

Fixed

  • Crash when opening the item server or the important items (#1):
    Transfer > Items > Server (moving items between the Digi-Beetle and the server) and
    Status > Important crashed the game on Windows and Linux. The menus scan more item slots than
    the item table holds; the PS1 reads past it without harm, the PC port crashed. Both menus work
    now, including moving items in both directions.

Speed-up for battles and domains, a cleaner start on Windows and a Discord link.

You need your own copy of the game. The downloads contain no game data. On the first start
the port checks your disc image (USA, SLUS-01193) and builds its data pack from it. Updating from
v0.1.0: unpack over the old folder; your saves, settings and data pack stay.

New

  • Speed-up (F3): unlocks the game speed, like an emulator's fast forward. Battles, attacks,
    walking in the domains and menus run faster. F3 again locks it to normal speed; a short notice
    shows "Speed unlocked: 3x" / "Speed locked". Pick the speed in F1, new Game tab: 2x, 3x
    (default), 4x, 5x, 6x, 8x or no limit. Music and battle voices play faster with it (voices are
    silent with no limit); movies always play at normal speed. It starts locked on every launch.
    --speed-up starts with it on.
  • No console window on Windows: dw2.exe opens only the game window. Started from cmd or
    PowerShell it still prints its log there. A start-up error now shows a message box.
  • Program icon: a DW2 icon on dw2.exe, the window and the taskbar.
  • Join Discord button in the F1 settings window (opens the invite in Discord or your browser).

DW2-PC v0.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@Wyrelade Wyrelade released this 09 Oct 16:03

First release of the Digimon World 2 PC port: the decompiled PS1 game code built as a native
Windows and Linux program. Classic single player, played like the PS1 version.

You need your own copy of the game. The downloads contain no game data. On the first start
the port checks your disc image (USA, SLUS-01193, raw .bin/.cue, .img or raw .iso) file by file
and builds its data pack from it.

Downloads

  • DW2-PC-windows-x64.zip: Windows 10 / 11, 64-bit. Unpack, put your disc image next to
    dw2.exe, start it.
  • DW2-PC-linux-x64.zip: Linux x64. Needs SDL3 3.4 or newer and glibc 2.43 or newer (built on
    Ubuntu 26.04). On older systems, build from source.

What is in it

  • Render scale 1x to 8x, 16:9 widescreen (wider camera, not stretched), no wobble (precise
    vertices, perspective-correct textures), optional sharpening.
  • GPU renderer (SDL_GPU) with a software fallback; windowed, borderless and exclusive
    fullscreen.
  • Intro, story and ending movies with sound; streamed CD audio (battle voice lines, DNA scene).
  • F1 settings window: graphics, key and gamepad remap, left stick as D-pad, volume.
  • Gamepads, full keyboard play, two players for VS mode.
  • Saves are memory card files; raw cards from DuckStation, PCSX-Redux or ePSXe load as they are.
  • F12 screenshots (PNG) in a screenshots folder next to the program.
  • Esc asks before quitting.

Known limits

  • No full playthrough has been checked yet. Please finish the game and report anything that
    crashes or plays differently from the PS1 version:
    https://github.com/Wyrelade/DW2-PC/issues
  • The Linux build needs a recent distribution (see above).

Licenses

The port is CC0 1.0. It ships SDL3 (zlib license) and Dear ImGui (MIT license, notice in
README.txt). Digimon World 2 and its data belong to their owners.
