08 clip studio
Clip Studio is the Videos workspace for finished clips. Layout is side by side: player on the left, timeline/scrubber under the player, all file/playback/output/effect controls in a vertically scrollable right pane (Clip studio controls). Drag the center divider to rebalance.

The rendered composition in Videos and Clip Studio.
Select a row in Video library. If saved frame_*.png files still sit beside the primary video, Clip Studio uses those PNG frames first for cached playback, effect previews, and final export. The MP4 path is the fallback when frames are missing or invalid.
PNG-backed items stay PNG-backed during base preview preparation; adjacent MP4 is not substituted. Video-only items stay on the video route.
Label Preview quality (automation name Clip Studio preview quality). Controls disposable playback media only — not the export.
| Profile | Typical proxy |
|---|---|
| Performance | 360p / up to 30 displayed FPS |
| Balanced | 720p / up to 30 displayed FPS (default) |
| High quality | 1080p / up to 60 displayed FPS |
| Full/uncapped | Source size/rate |
When a retained PNG sequence is denser than the preview FPS, base playback decodes only the frames the preview will display. Slow-motion may prepare a denser proxy. Ping-pong and effect previews derive from that cached proxy.
Disposable preview FFmpeg work runs in Windows background mode, honors CPU workers as a ceiling, and uses at most two CPU workers so the desktop keeps headroom.
Output quality (under Final output) does not rebuild playback previews.

Right pane heading Clip studio controls, then the clip title and detail line.
| Button | Role |
|---|---|
| Open folder | Opens the render directory. |
| Download copy | Copies the primary video file. |
| Delete directory | Deletes the whole render directory (destructive, danger-colored). |
Activity shows the current Clip Studio job (preview prep, effect preview, export) and which GPU(s) are in the route.
Heading Playback.
| Control | Role |
|---|---|
| Play / Pause / Stop | Transport. |
| Loop range | Loop the active trim range. |
| Playback speed | Reinterprets already-rendered frames. Does not create new fractal states. |
| Ping-pong preview and export | Appends the selected trim reversed, doubling that timeline before speed and output FPS. |
A 30 FPS source at 0.5× contains 15 unique source frames per displayed second. Clip Studio reports that cadence; it does not invent interpolated frames (which would fake fractal detail). The playhead can advance in visible source-frame steps even when the player is healthy.
Trim in/out on the timeline. Reset trim clears the range.
Heading Final output.
| Control | Role |
|---|---|
| Format | MP4, VP9 WebM, palette-optimized GIF, delta-compressed animated WebP. |
| Output quality | Final saved export encoder only (fast / balanced / high / archive). |
| Size | Original or smaller optimized sizes. |
| Frame rate | Explicit place where an exported copy may resample, drop, or duplicate frames. The source PNG sequence is never modified. |
| Reset trim | Clear in/out. |
| Save export | Renders the active source/output trim, speed, ping-pong, effects, FPS, format, quality, and size beside the source video. |
Original (in post effects) restores the uneffected look as a starting point for the stack.
MP4 exports and playback proxies use NVENC when available. A complete saved-PNG MP4 can split across every enabled GPU whose NVENC mapping is verified; segment-safe OpenCL effects use the matching OpenCL device; segments are joined without re-encoding.
Temporal/history effects, continuity-sensitive events, output-timeline trims, timing-changing manual FPS conversion, video/proxy sources, WebM, GIF, and WebP remain single-stream. A manual FPS equal to the natural cadence does not disable multi-GPU export.
The Clip Studio Activity line and Render Render activity resource label name every GPU in a multi-GPU route, or name the single GPU and why segmentation was unavailable.
See the The rendered composition in Videos and Clip Studio screenshot.
Heading Post effects. Category dropdown for fast browsing. Clear effects empties the stack.
Every directly configurable effect offers named Style looks (event-marker variation stays on the marker timeline). Fine tune exposes every detailed control; any manual adjustment becomes Custom. Open dropdowns consume the mouse wheel so long lists scroll under the pointer.
Examples of event-capable effects: Strobe Light (random probability, intensity variation, whole-number seed), Negative Flash, Shockwave, Zoom Punch, Supernova, Glitch Burst (phase plus deterministic event probability/seed). Default probability is 100% and phase is zero, so older projects keep their look. Visual-only: no audio or beat behavior.
Animate on a renderer-backed fine-tune row: From/To, easing, Once/Loop/Ping-pong, 1–8 cycles, phase. The same curve is used by rendered preview and Save export, saved per clip. Applying a named Style disarms active curves so the look is not silently overridden, while retaining authored endpoints if you turn animation back on.
Discrete choices, random seeds, segment counts, pixel-cell topology, and temporal-history lengths stay static.
Remove curve turns animation off for that row. Up / Down reorder the stack. Reset restores that effect. X removes it.
This timeline-curve feature is visual-only and separate from any future external/audio modulation.

Clip Studio: palette remap, fine tuning, and effect animation.
Heading Event markers (optional).
| Field | Role |
|---|---|
| Type | Event kind (glitch-hit and the catalog from clips events). |
| Time (seconds) | When it fires. |
| Duration / Strength | Shape. |
| Add marker / Clear markers | Edit the list. |
Creating a marker ensures the Event Markers processor exists in the stack.
Save draft / Reset draft persist Clip Studio edits for the selected source path so they restore when you reopen the clip.
- It does not re-render fractal seeds. Speed and ping-pong only reorder existing frames.
- It does not modify the source PNG sequence.
- Preview cache files never replace the canonical PNG/video route used by Save export.
