Haplogroup lineage lookup

Haplogroup lineage lookup

Trace paternal and maternal haplogroups through their phylogenetic branches back to root haplogroups. You open this screen when you want to examine the full evolutionary lineage and defining mutations of a Y-DNA or mtDNA subclade.

What you see

The top header displays the selected haplogroup name and includes the View migration map button when opened in connection with a specific kit.

The main pane presents an ordered list showing the evolutionary branch path. Each entry lists the ancestral haplogroup name and its defining mutations in parentheses.

Common tasks

Trace an ancestral haplogroup chain

  1. Open the haplogroup viewer by selecting a haplogroup label on a DNA kit record.
  2. Review the ordered chain in the list to follow the branch from ancestral root down to the terminal subclade.

The list details all intermediate mutation steps recorded in the phylogenetic reference tree.

Open the migration map for a kit

  1. Open the haplogroup lineage panel for a tested kit.
  2. Select View migration map next to the haplogroup header.

The application switches to the migration map view centered on that kit's lineage.

Good to know

  • Lineage chains are computed directly from built-in phylogenetic reference trees for Y-DNA and mtDNA.
  • If an imported haplogroup is not present in the current reference data, the panel displays a notice that the subclade was not found.
