Date format settings

Date format settings

Configure how ambiguous numeric dates are interpreted across all data entry forms in your family tree. Open this screen from application settings when you want to choose between day-first and month-first date parsing conventions.

What you see

The Date format for numbers like 3/4/1850 section provides radio buttons to select how numeric dates without written month names are parsed throughout the tree.

The Day first (3/4/1850 is 3 April 1850) option sets numeric dates to interpret the first integer as the calendar day and the second integer as the month.

The Month first (3/4/1850 is 4 March 1850) option sets numeric dates to interpret the first integer as the calendar month and the second integer as the day.

Common tasks

Set day-first date interpretation

  1. Open the application Settings… dialog from the main window toolbar.
  2. Scroll to the Dates section.
  3. Select Day first (3/4/1850 is 3 April 1850).

The application immediately stores the preference and parses subsequent numeric date entries as day-first.

Set month-first date interpretation

  1. Open the application Settings… dialog from the main window toolbar.
  2. Scroll to the Dates section.
  3. Select Month first (3/4/1850 is 4 March 1850).

The application immediately stores the preference and parses subsequent numeric date entries as month-first.

Good to know

  • Changes take effect immediately across all fact forms, event dialogs, and persona creation panels.
  • Written month names (such as 4 Mar 1850 or April 3, 1850) are always unambiguous and are unaffected by this setting.
