Connections

Applies to all versions.

Better Connections only adds connections: everything that connects in vanilla still connects, and nothing is disconnected. The checks use vanilla block tags, so blocks from other mods that are in those tags are covered too.

Notes:

• In vanilla Minecraft glass panes (including stained glass panes) are the same kind of block as iron bars, so every rule for iron bars applies to them.
• Wooden and nether brick fences are all in #minecraft:fences, so they now also connect to fences of other materials.
• A connection is only drawn on the block that has the rule. For example a wall connects towards a fence, and the fence connects back to the wall because fences have their own rule for walls.

Adding blocks from other mods

Add a block to the matching vanilla tag with a datapack (or in the other mod) to include it:

Only add blocks that really are walls, fences, fence gates or wall signs: those tags are also used by vanilla for other behaviour.

How it works

Three mixins extend the vanilla connection checks: FenceBlock#connectsTo, IronBarsBlock#attachsTo and WallBlock#connectsTo. When the vanilla check says "no", the mod checks the rules above and returns "yes" if one matches. Nothing is stored in the world, so removing the mod simply returns to the vanilla connections the next time the blocks update.
