Credits and License

Applies to every version of Better Connections.

Better Connections has a licensing story worth reading in full, because it is not straightforward.

License

AGPL-3.0-only — the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0. See the LICENSE file, and NOTICE for the attribution detail.

AGPL-3.0 is the strongest copyleft here. It is not MIT, and it is not LGPL. If you run a modified version as a network service, you owe the corresponding source to your users.

This is a port

Better Connections is a derivative work — a Fabric-to-NeoForge port, with additional block and tag compatibility — of:

Upstream BetterWalls
Authors Lemonnik6484 (Lemonnik) and JX_Snack
Source https://github.com/Lemon4ik6484/BetterWalls
Modrinth https://modrinth.com/mod/betterwalls
CurseForge https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/better-walls

The port was created in July 2026 from the then-current upstream source.

The licensing basis, and a known discrepancy

BetterWalls is published under AGPL-3.0 on both of its distribution pages — Modrinth and CurseForge. Better Connections is therefore licensed AGPL-3.0-only, which is what a derivative work requires.

As of 2026-09-10, the LICENSE file in the upstream GitHub repository instead reads:

All Rights Reserved. Copyright (c) 2024 Lemonnik

That conflicts with the AGPL-3.0 declared on the upstream's own Modrinth and CurseForge pages.

The licensing here relies on the AGPL-3.0 grant published on those distribution pages, and the situation is recorded explicitly in NOTICE rather than papered over. If you are the upstream author and this is wrong, please contact Stalking Dragons — the notice says so in as many words.

One thing still outstanding

The exact upstream commit was not recorded when the port was made. The NOTICE says so plainly and notes that it should be pinned once identified.

For an AGPL derivative work, identifying the precise upstream version is a real compliance point rather than bookkeeping. It is the one open item in this mod's licensing.

What this mod adds over upstream

Beyond the loader port, the connection rules are extended: the upstream handles the base case, and Better Connections covers more block and tag combinations — including everything registered through vanilla tags rather than a fixed list.
