Compatibility

Applies to Better Connections across all supported versions.

Loaders

Loader Minecraft Supported
NeoForge 1.21.1 Yes — 21.1.249+
NeoForge 26.1.2 Yes — 26.1.2.78
NeoForge 26.2 Yes — 26.2.0.57
Fabric any No

Dependencies

None. Better Connections declares only minecraft and the loader. Nothing else is required.

Modded blocks work automatically

The connections are driven by vanilla block tags:

Tag Used for
minecraft:fences blocks treated as fences
minecraft:fence_gates blocks treated as fence gates
minecraft:walls blocks treated as walls
minecraft:wall_signs blocks treated as wall signs

This is the reason the mod is six classes rather than a hundred. Because the rule is "connect anything in these tags", a modded fence connects to a modded wall without Better Connections knowing either mod exists, and without anyone maintaining a hardcoded list.

If a modded fence does not connect, the usual reason is that its blocks are not registered in minecraft:fences — check the tag before assuming a bug.

Exclusion is by tag, not by config

There is no way to exclude a specific block from Better Connections' rules, because the mod has no configuration at all — Config.java is an empty leftover class.

The only lever is the tags themselves: if a block is not in the relevant vanilla tag, the mod will not treat it as that block type.

Version status

Branch Version Note
1.21.1 0.0.0-beta.2 Beta — older line.
26.1.2 1.0.1 Released
26.2 1.1.0 Released

The 1.21.1 branch is a beta and a version behind the others, as expected for the oldest supported line.

Performance

Negligible. Three mixins that alter block connection state — work done when a block is placed or when neighbours change, not per frame.

Content added

None. No blocks, items or recipes. Removing the JAR leaves saves untouched and only restores vanilla's connection gaps.

A note on mixins

The mod works by mixing into vanilla's fence, pane and wall classes. That is what changes the connection rules, and it means a mod that also mixins those same methods could conflict. In practice this has not been reported an issue, but it is the kind of thing to check if connections behave oddly after adding another mod.
