Configuration

Configuration

Applies to Player Activity View 0.0.0-beta.4 for Minecraft 1.21.1 (NeoForge), and to the stable 26.x lines.

Three config files are generated on first launch, one per NeoForge config type. All three are plain TOML and all are commented.

<gamedir>/config/player_activity_view-common.toml
<gamedir>/config/player_activity_view-client.toml
<gamedir>/config/player_activity_view-server.toml

There is also an in-game config screen, reachable from the mod list, for the common and client files.

common.toml

Shared by both sides. Two options:

Option Default Meaning
announceIdleStatesInChat false Post a chat message whenever someone's idle state changes.
ticksToMarkPlayerIdle 6000 Idle timeout in ticks. 6000 = 5 minutes.

0 marks a player idle the instant they stop moving. The default of 5 minutes is long enough that brief pauses — reading a chat message, looking at something — do not trip it.

Chat announcements are off by default on purpose: on a busy server every idle transition becomes a message, and it quickly becomes noise nobody reads.

client.toml

Everything about what you broadcast and what you draw. The options that matter most:

Not sending anything

Option Default Meaning
dontSendDetailedGUIInfo false true stops detailed GUI information being sent.
dontSendItemInfo false true stops item-transfer information being sent.
sendMouseInfo true Sends relative mouse position and clicks, for arm animations.
sendTypingSpeed true Sends the calculated typing rate, not just "typing".
sendActiveGui true Sends which interface is open.
sendIdleState true Sends idle and return-to-active transitions.

See Privacy for what each of these actually transmits.

What you display

Option Default
showPlayerAnimations true
showPlayerAnimation_Typing true
showPlayerAnimation_Idle true
showPlayerAnimation_Gui true
showPlayerActiveNonChatGui true
showPlayerActiveChatGui true
showPlayerActiveGuiIfNotExactMatch true
showIdleStatesInPlayerList true
showIdleStatesInPlayerAboveHead true
showGuisForYourOwnPlayerIn3rdPerson true
playScreenOpenSounds true
playMouseClickSounds true

showPlayerAnimations is the master switch — setting it false disables all animations at once. The rest are per-feature.

showPlayerActiveGuiIfNotExactMatch decides what happens with a modded interface the mod does not recognise: true falls back to showing a chest, false shows nothing. If you run many GUI mods and keep seeing a chest icon on people who are clearly not at a chest, this is the option.

The typing message

Option Default Meaning
screenTypingVisible true Show the typing line on the chat screen.
screenTypingText " is typing" Text after the player's name.
screenTypingMultiplePlayersText "Several people are typing" Shown instead when the line gets long.
screenTypingCharacterLimit 50 Length at which it switches. Range 1–200.
screenTypingRelativePosition_X 0 Horizontal offset. Range −1000–1000.
screenTypingRelativePosition_Y 0 Vertical offset. Range −1000–1000.

The mirror panel

Option Default Range
particleSizeScale 1.0 0.5–3.0
tickReceiveAndRenderRateOfGUIUpdates 10 1–100

particleSizeScale is capped at 3.0 deliberately, so the panel cannot be scaled up to fill the screen.

server.toml

Synced to every client, so these override local preferences. The server owner decides what is broadcast.

Option Default Meaning
distanceRequiredToShowGUIInfo 10 How close another player must be, 1–100.
showItemsBeingTransferredBetweenPlayerAndContainer true Transfer animations.
dynamicGuiDontSendConstantGUIUpdates true Only send the initial image.
dynamicGuiTickSendRateOfGUIUpdates 10 Ticks between updates. Range 0–100.
dynamicGuiBlurLevel 1 0–2, prevents crop-edge aliasing.
dynamicGuiSizeRadiusInPixelsToShow 112.0 Circle crop radius. -1 disables the crop. Range −1.0–512.0.
dynamicGuiShowClientsEntireScreen false Whole screen instead of circle.
dynamicGuiDisableBackgroundRendering true Skip the GUI background.
dynamicGuiUseOldSimpleGUIVisual false Revert to the simpler panel.

The same visual toggles exist here as on the client — showPlayerAnimations, the per-feature animation switches, showIdleStatesInPlayerList, showIdleStatesInPlayerAboveHead, screenTypingVisible, playScreenOpenSounds, playMouseClickSounds.

Arm adjustments

assets/player_activity_view/config/player_activity_view-item-arm-adjustments.json

Holds held_item_arm_adjustments: a list of rules that set the arm pose for a given item, so that holding a specific tool looks right instead of using the generic pointing pose. Each rule has a filters list of item IDs and an adjustment object of hand positions.

Reload it without restarting:

/player_activity_view reloadJSON

The file lives in the client's assets folder, so edit the one in your own instance.

One caveat about the server config

The server config is unloaded on the title screen and until a world is joined. The mod handles this by reading declared defaults until the config is actually loaded, so a client sitting in the main menu renders correctly and does not throw. Worth knowing because it means a server config change is not visible to a player who has not joined a world yet.
