Applies to Player Activity View 0.0.0-beta.4 for Minecraft 1.21.1 (NeoForge), and to the stable 26.x lines.
This page is the reason this mod has a wiki page of its own.
Player Activity View works by broadcasting information about what each player is doing to other players. That is the feature. It is also worth understanding precisely, because "my mouse is moving and my inventory is on screen" is information you may not intend to share with a server you do not run.
When the mod is installed on both sides, your client sends:
| Default | Config option | |
|---|---|---|
| That you are typing | on | sendTypingSpeed |
| How fast you are typing | on | sendTypingSpeed |
| Which interface you have open | on | sendActiveGui |
| An image of that interface | on | server-side, see below |
| That you went idle, and when you came back | on | sendIdleState |
| Your relative mouse position and clicks | on | sendMouseInfo |
| Items moving between you and containers | on | dontSendItemInfo |
Your relative mouse position is sent by default. Not the contents of your inventory — the position of your cursor and the fact that you clicked. That is enough to reconstruct intent. It exists so arm animations can point where you are pointing. If that is not something you want shared, this is the option to turn off.
These are the important ones, and both live in the client config:
| Option | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|
dontSendDetailedGUIInfo |
false |
Set to true and detailed GUI information stops being sent. |
dontSendItemInfo |
false |
Set to true and item-transfer information stops being sent. |
Their defaults are false, which means the data is sent. They are opt-outs, not opt-ins.
Note that these control sending, not display. Turning one off means nobody receives that information — not even a server admin. There is no "show it to me but not to them" mode.
The server config is synced to every client, so a server owner can restrict what is broadcast regardless of local client settings. That is the mechanism for running a server where players did not choose to participate.
| Server option | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|
distanceRequiredToShowGUIInfo |
10 |
How close another player must be to see GUI information at all. |
showItemsBeingTransferredBetweenPlayerAndContainer |
true |
Whether transfer animations happen at all. |
dynamicGuiTickSendRateOfGUIUpdates |
10 |
Ticks between GUI image updates. |
dynamicGuiDontSendConstantGUIUpdates |
true |
Only the initial image is sent. |
dynamicGuiShowClientsEntireScreen |
false |
Whole screen instead of a circular crop. |
dynamicGuiDisableBackgroundRendering |
true |
Skips rendering the GUI background. |
dynamicGuiUseOldSimpleGUIVisual |
false |
Reverts to the pre-crop, simpler panel. |
showIdleStatesInPlayerList |
true |
Idle marker in the tab list. |
showIdleStatesInPlayerAboveHead |
true |
Idle marker above the head. |
showPlayerAnimations |
true |
Master switch for all animations. |
playScreenOpenSounds / playMouseClickSounds
|
true |
The audio cues. |
The strongest single lever is distanceRequiredToShowGUIInfo. At its default of 10, GUI
information is inherently short-range — it is not broadcast to the whole server. Raising it makes
it more private, not less. Setting it to 1 means only a player standing on top of you can see it.
You do not want others seeing what you are doing
Install client-side only, or set dontSendDetailedGUIInfo and dontSendItemInfo to true.
Client-only is the simplest guarantee, because a mod you do not have cannot report anything.
A server where players did not opt in
Install server-side with the server config restricting it. Keep dynamicGuiDontSendConstantGUIUpdates
on, keep the distance low, and consider turning off showItemsBeingTransferredBetweenPlayerAndContainer.
A co-op server where AFK detection is the point
Install on both sides. That is what the mod is for, and the players there chose to be in it with each other.
To be precise about the boundary:
- Inventory contents are not sent as text. The GUI mirror is an image of what is already on your screen, which does show item names and tooltips — but no structured inventory data is transmitted.
- Keystrokes are not recorded. Typing is detected as "is typing" and at what rate. The characters themselves are not sent, and what you typed in chat is handled by vanilla.
- Your position is not sent by this mod. It already is, by the game.
To other players on the same server, within the configured distance, over normal modded networking. It does not leave the server and there is no external service involved. The one practical consequence is bandwidth, covered in Compatibility.
