The Three Bridges

The Three Bridges

Applies to Storage Bridge (Functional Storage) 0.0.0-beta.1 for Minecraft 1.21.1 (NeoForge).

All three integrations share one gesture: right-click a Functional Storage Controller (plain or framed), or a Controller Extension linked to one — main hand, not sneaking, any face.

What differs is what each destination accepts, and each has its own opinion about that.

The mod is built as three independent handlers, each knowing one destination type.

1. Apothic-Enchanting Library

Targets: the Enchantment Library (apothic_enchanting:library) and the Library of Alexandria (apothic_enchanting:ender_library).

Moves: every stack of minecraft:enchanted_book in the player's inventory.

One-directional. The Library consumes every book it accepts and cannot return them. That is what a Library does — not a limitation of the bridge.

Worth being clear about before you do it: this gesture empties enchanted books from your inventory into something you cannot retrieve them from.

2. Sophisticated Storage chest or barrel

Targets: any Sophisticated Storage chest or barrel reachable from the controller.

Moves: items, but only items the chest or barrel already holds a matching stack of.

The opposite philosophy to the Library, and on purpose. The mod will not dump unrelated items into an empty container, because "right-click a chest to unload your whole inventory into it" is a surprising and destructive default.

Practically: to seed a chest from your drawers, put one item of each type you want transferred into it first. After that, the rest of that stack follows.

3. Apotheosis Gem Case

Targets: the Gem Case and the Ender Gem Case.

Moves: unsocketed gem stacks.

The destination validates. The Gem Case's own capability rejects anything that is not a valid gem, so the mod does not have to guess.

Note the qualifier: unsocketed. Gems already socketed into armour or tools are not loose items and are not moved.

How the search works

ControllerNetworkSearch resolves the controller from the click, then looks for a reachable target:

  1. controllerFor(event) — resolves the clicked block to its Functional Storage controller. Works for a plain Controller, a framed one, and a Controller Extension linked to one.
  2. findNetworked(level, controller, TileClass) — searches the controller's linked blocks for a tile of the type that destination needs.

Because Functional Storage links wirelessly, "networked" means the controller's connected drawers — not physical adjacency. See Getting Started.

If several eligible containers are in range, the mod deposits into one of them. Items are not distributed across all of them.

The gesture, precisely

Target A Functional Storage Controller (plain or framed), or a Controller Extension linked to one
Hand main hand
Sneaking excluded — it opens the Controller's GUI
Face any
Anything else in hand does not matter — holding an enchanted book is not a filter

One difference from the Storage Drawers sibling: there is no "empty hand or holding an enchanted book" restriction here. Any item in the main hand performs the gesture, because Functional Storage's own insertion uses the same click and this mod is only adding targets to it.
