config/tick_smoothing/config.toml |
Server config, synced to clients. Everything below. |
| client-only config | The debug overlay TPS display and chat warnings. |
No option needs changing. Every default is a considered choice.
| Option | Default | Range | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
enabled |
true |
— | Master toggle. Off means the mod does nothing and factor is pinned to 1.0. |
tpsWindow |
40 |
5 – 200 | How many recent ticks go into the rolling average. |
minFactor |
0.05 |
0.01 – 1.0 | Floor on the compensation factor. |
The length of the rolling average the TPS is computed over, in ticks. At 20 TPS that is two seconds of history.
- Shorter reacts faster to a sudden drop, but is jumpier and more likely to over- or under-compensate on a single spike.
- Longer is steadier and more accurate, but slower to notice a collapse.
40 is a reasonable balance. If you see the factor jump around wildly, raise this.
The floor on compensation. Lower values allow more aggressive catch-up on very laggy servers; at the
default 0.05 the mod compensates all the way down to 1 TPS equivalent before the floor stops it.
Setting it to 1.0 disables compensation entirely, whatever the TPS. See
Safety.
Player action compensation. All default on.

maxRandomTickMultiplier |

randomTickTpsFloor |

0.0 – 20.0 |
blockEntityMask — allow or deny list in namespace:id format, controlling which block entities
get extra-ticked when blockEntities is on. The default *:* means every block entity, which is
why blockEntities itself defaults to off.
maxRandomTickMultiplier — caps extra random ticks per tick. Range 1–10.
randomTickTpsFloor — below this TPS, random-tick acceleration disables itself to avoid a
feedback loop. Range 0.0–20.0, default 8.0.
The last two are safety brakes. See Safety before changing either.
tnt and blockEntities are off by default, and both reasons are explained in
Safety. TNT off because accelerating explosions punishes the players least able to react;
block entities off because it is experimental.

watchdogMode |
"VANILLA" |
VANILLA · WARN_ONLY · EXTEND
|
The watchdog is untouched by default. EXTEND increases its timeout proportionally, which delays
your recovery from a hard hang as well as avoiding the kill. See Safety.
Two options:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
showTpsInDebugOverlay |
Shows TPS in the F3 debug overlay. |
chatWarnings |
Warns in chat when TPS drops. |
chatWarningTpsThreshold |
The TPS below which those warnings fire. |
Note that the client config affects only your own display. Compensation itself is decided on the server and synced.
| Symptom | Try |
|---|---|
| Factor jumps around | Raise tpsWindow
|
| Compensation too weak | Lower minFactor
|
| Compensation too aggressive | Raise minFactor
|
| Random ticks feel unstable | Leave randomTickTpsFloor alone |
| A specific timer still stretches | Find the module and toggle it off — some mods manage their own |
Tick Smoothing is by Stalking Dragons, released under the MIT License. It hides the symptoms of low TPS; it does not raise TPS. Pair it with real performance work.
