Waystone Beam

Waystone Beam

Applies to Utility Nexus QoL 1.1.3 for Minecraft 1.21.1 (NeoForge).

What it does

A vanilla-style beacon beam of light rises out of every Waystones block in view, so your bases and travel hubs are visible from a distance.

Entirely client-side. There is no server component: the beam is rendered by your client, for your eyes. Other players do not see it, and it is not synced.

It needs Waystones

Waystones is required for this feature, and the gating is deliberate — two gates:

  1. the config flag enabled, and
  2. a runtime ModList check at client setup.

Without Waystones present, the mod logs:

Waystones not present - Waystone Beacon Beam disabled

…returns, and registers nothing. No renderers, no event handlers, no crash. The mod itself still loads and the recipe selector still works.

That double gate is why this feature can be left on by default in a pack where some players do not have Waystones: it does nothing for them, cleanly.

Configuration

# config/utility_nexus/qol/config.toml
[waystoneBeam]
enabled = true
beamHeightBlocks = 100
colorRed = 80
colorGreen = 200
colorBlue = 255
Option Default Range What it does
enabled true — Master switch.
beamHeightBlocks 100 1 – 1024 How tall the beam is.
colorRed 80 0 – 255 Red channel.
colorGreen 200 0 – 255 Green channel.
colorBlue 255 0 – 255 Blue channel.

The default is a pale blue — 80, 200, 255. All three channels go 0–255 independently, so any colour is reachable.

beamHeightBlocks at 1024 is a very tall beam. At that height you will see it from most of the loaded world, which is useful for a main hub and obnoxious for a base. 100 is a middle ground.

Implementation notes

Class Role
WaystoneBeamConfig The client spec — the five options above.
WaystoneBeamClientData Gathers the Waystone block positions to draw.
WaystoneBeamRenderer The render pass.

Both are registered only after the ModList check passes — see Getting Started.

What it does not do

  • It is not synced. Other players do not see your beams. It is a client-side visual convenience.
  • It does not replace the vanilla beacon beam. It is drawn alongside whatever beacon block you have, not in place of it.
  • It does not work without Waystones. No Waystones blocks, no beams.
  • It does not change lighting. It is a beam, not a light source — it will not brighten the area around it.

Disabling it

Set enabled = false in config/utility_nexus/qol/config.toml. There is no command for this; it is a client preference and lives in the client config file.
