Release list
v1.2.0
What's new
- Formatted notes. Paste or write Markdown and it formats as you type: headings, bold, italic,
strikethrough, code, quotes, lists, task checkboxes, links and tables. The markers only show on the line you're editing. Use Ctrl+B and Ctrl+I, or the T button for a formatting toolbar. Ctrl+click opens a link. Prefer plain text? Turn it off in Settings. Requested in #40. - Auto-scroll. Press Ctrl+Shift+Space (or ▶ in the bottom bar) and your notes scroll by themselves, teleprompter style. Press it again to pause and resume. Ctrl+Shift+, and Ctrl+Shift+. change the speed, and there's a speed slider in Settings.
- Undo. Cleared your notes or replaced them with a paste by accident? Undo (or Ctrl+Z) brings them back. Pasting an empty clipboard no longer wipes your notes.
- Shortcut cheat sheet. Press F1 (or Settings > Shortcuts) to see every keyboard shortcut.
- Version in the title bar, with "Up to date" or "New version available" next to the settings icon.
- One-click updates, and a download a third smaller. Updating from 1.1.3 still shows the installer once. From the next update on, it installs in one click.
How do you use ScreenPrompt? Tell us in #51. Many of the stories will appear on the upcoming website.

v1.1.3
What's new
- Locked mode has a way out. Press Esc or Ctrl+click the lock icon to unlock; the bottom bar shows this while locked, and a short tip explains it the first time you lock. Plain clicks always go through to the app below, so the overlay never blocks a button underneath. Reported in #41.
- Scrolling works like clicks. While locked, the mouse wheel scrolls the app behind the overlay. Hold Ctrl and scroll over the overlay to move your notes instead.
- Shortcuts no longer override your other apps. Copy, paste, clear, settings, reset, font size and nudge (Ctrl+Shift+C/V/Delete/S/R, PageUp/PageDown/Home, Arrows) now only act while ScreenPrompt is focused. Click the overlay, or press Ctrl+Shift+E when it's locked. Hide, lock, quick edit, opacity, position presets, quit and panic still work from anywhere.
- Remembers where you left it. Window position, size and lock state are restored when you start the app.
- Notes save as you type, so closing right after an edit no longer loses it.
- Paste and replace (Ctrl+Shift+V) works, without a browser permission prompt.
- Position presets and nudge land correctly at any display scaling and stay clear of the taskbar.
- A short "What's new" window appears once after you update. Like the overlay, it's hidden from screen sharing.

v1.1.2
Bug fix release
- Fixed the update prompt that appeared on every launch even when already on the latest version (#35, fixed in #36). The app was reporting its version as 1.1.0. It now reads its real version at runtime, which also corrects the version shown in the title bar and Settings.
- Overlay UI refresh following Apple HIG (#34).
If you're on 1.1.1, accept the update prompt one last time. After that it only appears when there's a real new version.

v1.1.1
Maintenance release
- Removed the leftover Python-era files from the repo root (the app has been the Tauri 2 / Rust + TypeScript rewrite since v1.1.0 — the old Python tree is now archived on the
legacy-pythonbranch, full history preserved). - Updated all npm and Cargo dependencies to their latest compatible versions, resolving all 25 open Dependabot security alerts (including a
tauriIPC origin-confusion issue). - No functional/behavior changes.

v1.1.0 — Tauri Rewrite
What's New
ScreenPrompt has been fully rewritten from Python/tkinter to Tauri 2 (Rust + React/TypeScript). Same features, better performance, smaller footprint.
Highlights
- Tauri 2 backend — native Rust with WebView2, replaces Python/tkinter
- Keyboard layout support — auto-detects Hungarian (QWERTZ) or English (QWERTY), configurable in Settings
- Click-through fix — lock mode now fully blocks all mouse input (including WebView2 layer)
- Placeholder bug fix — reset no longer turns placeholder into permanent text
- UI polish — default cursor everywhere, close/settings buttons flush with window edge
Upgrading
Download and run the installer — it will replace the previous Python-based version. Your settings will start fresh with the new config system.
The auto-updater in v1.0.x will detect this release and prompt to install.

v1.0.4
What's New
Scroll wheel works in locked (click-through) mode
Previously, locking the overlay blocked all mouse input including scroll. A low-level Windows mouse hook now intercepts scroll events over the overlay and forwards them to the text widget — clicks still pass through as expected.
New app icon
New SP monogram icon with proper multi-resolution ICO (10 sizes: 16-256px) for crisp display at all Windows DPI scales.
Auto-updater filename matching fix
Fixed the auto-updater not finding the installer download due to a case-sensitive filename match.
Build system improvements
- NSIS installer and build script now support x64/x86 architecture targeting
- Architecture auto-detection from Python interpreter
Full Changelog: v1.0.3...v1.0.4
v1.0.3 - Auto-Update Checker
What's New
Auto-Update Checker
ScreenPrompt now checks for updates automatically! When a new version is available:
- A green ⬆ v1.x.x indicator appears in the title bar
- Click it to download and install the update
- No silent/automatic updates - you're always in control
You can disable this in Settings → "Check for updates on startup"

- High-quality icons in multiple resolutions
AV False Positive Mitigation (Experimental)
- Custom PyInstaller bootloader support
- Disabled UPX compression
- EXE version metadata

v1.0.2 - AV False Positive Mitigation
What's New
New App Icons
- Fresh, modern app icon design
- High-quality icons in multiple resolutions (16px to 512px)
- Appears in window title bar, taskbar, installer, and Add/Remove Programs
AV False Positive Mitigation (Experimental)
This release includes changes that attempt to reduce antivirus false positives. These are common techniques recommended by PyInstaller, but results may vary depending on the AV engine:
- Custom PyInstaller Bootloader - Building from source creates a unique binary signature that shouldn't match known malware hashes
- Disabled UPX Compression - UPX-packed executables are a common heuristic trigger
- EXE Version Metadata - Proper CompanyName, FileDescription, and other metadata may improve AV trust signals
Note: If you still encounter false positives, please report them to the respective AV vendors. See
BUILD.mdfor contact information.
For Developers
- New
scripts/setup_pyinstaller.pyautomates the bootloader build process - Updated
scripts/create_icon.pyto generate ICO from PNG source - Updated
BUILD.mdwith detailed AV mitigation documentation - Build script now verifies PyInstaller installation and warns if custom bootloader is not in use

ScreenPrompt v1.0.0
ScreenPrompt v1.0.0 - Initial Release
A transparent overlay window for Windows that is invisible to screen capture software. Perfect for presentations, video calls, content creation, and keeping notes visible while screen sharing.
Features

- Transparent & Always-on-Top - See your content while keeping notes visible
- Click-Through Mode - Lock the overlay so clicks pass through to applications beneath
- Customizable Appearance - Adjust opacity, font family, font size, text color, and background color
- Keyboard Shortcuts - Control everything without clicking
- Position Presets - Quickly snap to screen corners or center
- Persistent Settings - Your preferences are saved between sessions
- 100% Local - No internet connection, no data collection, no telemetry
Requirements
- Windows 10 (Build 2004+) or Windows 11
Installation
- Download
ScreenPrompt.zipbelow - Extract the folder
- Run
ScreenPrompt.exe
Note: Windows may show a SmartScreen warning since the app isn't signed. Click "More info" → "Run anyway".
Known Limitations
- Browser-based screen sharing (Google Meet, Discord Web) may occasionally (~10% of cases) show a black box instead of hiding the window. Native desktop apps (Zoom, OBS, Teams desktop) provide the most reliable capture exclusion. We're actively gathering feedback on this behavior.
