Installation

Foldman isn't on the Play Store yet. You install it from its APK file.

Requirements

  • Android 11 or later, on a 64-bit ARM phone. That's every current foldable and most phones from recent years.
  • Designed for the Galaxy Z Fold 8, and tested on it and on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold emulator. It runs on other foldables and on ordinary phones (you get the folded, cover-screen layout).
  • For Apple Music: the Apple Music app, signed in with an Apple ID that has a subscription.
  • For YT Music: the YT Music app.

Install

  1. On the phone, open the latest release and download Foldman-x.y.z-release.apk.
  2. Open the downloaded file. If Android asks, allow your browser or file manager to install unknown apps.
  3. Open Foldman. Allow notifications if you'd like the media controls for local music.

Samsung phones: if the install is refused, turn off Auto Blocker (Settings → Security and privacy → Auto Blocker), install, then turn it back on if you like.

Updating

Download the newer APK and open it: it installs over the old version and keeps your settings and Apple Music sign-in. Every release is signed with the same key, so updates always install cleanly.

To check a download, compare its SHA-256 with the one in the release notes:

shasum -a 256 Foldman-0.1.1-release.apk

First run

  • Local music: tap the source tile (or the orange TAPES button on the cover screen) → Local folder → Choose folder (Choose music folder on the cover screen).
  • YT Music: choose YT Music → Grant access (Grant notification access on the cover screen). If Android greys out the switch, see Troubleshooting.
  • Apple Music: choose Apple Music → Sign in to Apple Music.

Sources covers each in detail.

Uninstalling

Settings → Apps → Foldman → Uninstall. This deletes Foldman's settings and your Apple Music sign-in. Your music files and Apple Music library aren't touched.
