Installing

"App not installed" or the install is blocked

• Allow your browser or file manager to install unknown apps when Android asks.
• Samsung: turn off Auto Blocker (Settings → Security and privacy → Auto Blocker) while installing.
• If an older Foldman was built and installed by someone else, it was signed with a different key. Uninstall it first.

YT Music and media sessions

Notification access is greyed out

Android 13 and later block this setting for apps installed outside the Play Store until you allow it:

1. Settings → Apps → Foldman.
2. Tap ⋮ (top right) → Allow restricted settings, and confirm.
3. Go back to Foldman and tap Grant notification access again.

It says "Not playing"

The app hasn't published anything to control yet. Start a song in YT Music, or press PLAY in Foldman: it asks the app to resume its last queue, and opens the app beside Foldman if that doesn't work.

The queue is empty

Some apps don't share their queue through the media session. Playback and the keys still work.

Apple Music inside Foldman

Sign-in says it didn't finish (USER_CANCELLED) even though I didn't cancel

This is a known issue with Apple's MusicKit sign-in after some Apple Music updates. Sign out of the Apple Music app, sign back in, and try again.

There's no "Sign in" button, only "add Apple's MusicKit AARs"

This build was made without MusicKit. Use a release APK from the releases page, or see Apple Music and MusicKit to build with it.

The music stopped when I opened the Apple Music app

Opening Apple Music can make it resume its own last song, and Android then tells Foldman to stop. Press PLAY in Foldman to take the audio back.

"Apple's player stopped unexpectedly and was restarted"

Apple's 2021 player crashed; Foldman restarted it and carried on with the same song. If it happens often, please report it with a crash log.

Apple Music stops after a while in the background

In-app Apple Music isn't a background service yet, so Android may close it when Foldman has been in the background for a long time. Keep Foldman open, or use local music. This is on the roadmap.

A song is greyed out

It's one you uploaded to Apple Music yourself, which MusicKit can't stream.

Apple Music stopped working entirely (after April 2027)

The developer token baked into release builds lasts six months at most; 0.1.x's expires on 19 April 2027. Install a newer release.

Local music

No album art

Embed art in the files, or put a cover.jpg (or folder.png, front.jpg…) in each album folder.

Song titles look like file names

Tags are read for the first 600 files; the rest show cleaned-up file names. Titles also come from file names when a file has no tags.

Display

The status bar is gone on the cover screen

That's deliberate: the cover screen is edge to edge. Swipe in from the top or bottom edge to bring the bars back briefly.

The keys are too loud, or I don't want vibration

Unfold the phone and flip the CLICK or HAPTIC switch on the silver strip.
