System Wide Root Access
dArkOSen provides root access throughout the system by default.
Two features are responsible for this:
- File explorers have root access.
- Wi-Fi Manager enables root filesharing by default.
Together, these provide system-wide root-level access to the device's filesystems.
This is intentional. It gives advanced users full access to modify, troubleshoot, and customize the operating system without having to work around restricted permissions.
It also means that critical system files can be deleted, overwritten, or modified accidentally. There is no permission barrier protecting important system directories from a root-enabled file manager or root filesharing.
Before modifying system files:
- Make a backup.
- Know exactly what file you are changing.
- Do not delete files simply because their purpose is unknown.
- Keep a known-good copy of important configuration and system files.
Advanced users: the unrestricted access is intentional and useful.
Beginners: use caution when exploring system directories. If you are unsure what a file or directory does, leave it alone until you have verified its purpose.
A backup can turn a mistake into a simple restoration. Without one, recovering from an accidental system modification may require the recovery system or a complete reinstallation.
