👥 Profiles & Parental Controls

Flux is built from the ground up for households and multi-user environments. With individual user profiles, each person enjoys personalized continue-watching history, custom watchlists, independent audio/subtitle language preferences, and PIN-secured parental controls.

1. Multi-Profile Setup

Managing Profiles

  1. Open the sidebar profile switcher or navigate to Settings (⌘,) → General → Manage Profiles….
  2. Click Add Profile to create a new family member profile.
  3. Choose a custom name and select from Flux's high-resolution 3D avatar collection (including 8 stylized cats and 12 pet avatars).
  4. Each profile stores independent:
    • Continue Watching rows and playback timestamps
    • Watchlist and favorites
    • Default audio and subtitle language selections
    • Stream quality and cache preferences

2. Kids Mode

Flux features a dedicated Kids Profile mode designed to give parents complete peace of mind:

How Kids Mode Protects Children:

  • Strict Content Filtering: Automatically filters out all titles rated R, NC-17, TV-MA, or unrated mature content across Home, Search, and OTT rails.
  • Child-Friendly Discovery: Replaces standard discovery rails with curated collections tailored for young viewers (Animation, Disney, Family Cinema, Fantasy).
  • Streamlined Interface: Hides advanced technical stream pickers and complex codec diagnostics.

3. Parental PIN Locks

To prevent children from switching to an adult profile or modifying settings, Flux includes a built-in 4-digit PIN lock system:

Setting Up a PIN:

  1. In the Profile Manager, select an adult profile.
  2. Toggle on Require PIN for this profile.
  3. Enter a 4-digit security PIN.

Lock Behavior:

  • Lock on Entry: Entering a protected profile requires the 4-digit PIN.
  • Lock on Exit (Kids Mode): When a Kids profile is active, attempting to switch to any other profile or access Profile Management requires the parental PIN, ensuring children cannot exit Kids Mode on their own.
  • Biometric / Keychain Security: PINs are securely salted and stored in the macOS Keychain.
