Weather and Hordes
Use the radio forecast before traveling. Rain and storms reduce infected detection, while contaminated precipitation damages exposed players.
Open the Survivor Network through a calibrated Radio Transmitter and expand < WX. It shows:
- current weather and the next transition;
- today's weather window;
- tomorrow's forecast; and
- the current season, when Serene Seasons is installed.
Each Overworld day has a saved weather plan, so today's and tomorrow's reports remain stable across restarts. Conditions can be clear, rain, thunderstorm, contaminated rain, or contaminated thunderstorm.
Contaminated weather cannot occur before world day 5, cannot occur on consecutive days, and is not scheduled as a contaminated storm on a deterministic horde day.
Rain and thunderstorms reduce infected sight and noise investigation. Storms provide stronger cover, but neither condition makes you invisible or silent.
Toxic weather only hurts you when rain can reach you. A solid roof or overhang immediately stops exposure.
| Condition | Warning time | Damage after warning |
|---|---|---|
| Contaminated rain | 4 seconds | 1 heart every 5 seconds |
| Contaminated thunderstorm | 2 seconds | 1 heart every 3 seconds |
The warning starts as a dirty-green screen edge and SEEK SHELTER message. A pulsing red-orange vignette means damage has started. Get under cover immediately.
Every fifth day is a horde day by default. The horde starts at midnight and fog starts building around noon. Horde Watch shows whether today is a horde day, whether a horde is active, and the current 24-hour time.
Before midnight, bring supplies inside, refill food, repair the camp, and clear a fallback route. Ocean hordes can include more drowned, except in frozen oceans.
Next: turn the shelter into a camp or use daylight to clear a site.
