Rusty MCLA 0.6.0

The new career's opening
- A new career starts up as the original's: after START the camera stays held over the city, the save boxes stand over the dimmed map and take ACCEPT, CREATE A NEW SAVE GAME brings the auto-save warning, then SAVING and LOADING, and only then the fade to black and the film. CONTINUE WITHOUT SAVING brings the auto-save disabled warning.
- VEHICLE SELECT as the original's: the three starters stand in the lot from before the film, left and right move the camera as the script does, and ACCEPT gives you the chosen car while the starter stays in the lot. INTRO FAST keeps the arrival by bus.
- The career's music as the original's (the loading music, the vehicle select music, the radio waiting through the opening) and sound for the start screen to the landing: the climb and descent sounds, the aircraft and helicopter loops, and no engine sound for the player's car before the career makes it.
- Story scenes play their audio as the original does (dialogue, the scene's effects stream and its mixer scene), and cutscenes draw each driver's cutscene copy, so the player's eyes no longer stand out of their sockets in the first story scene.
- The first story man is where the original puts him: his race enters the log after its scene, he pulls away from the lot after it, and flashing him warps straight to his race. His icon shows the GPS target's ripple before the flash.
- START opens the pause menu only where the original lets it (not on VEHICLE SELECT, the save boxes, the opening film, story scenes and race-start cinematics, the warps, the last 3 seconds before GO, the race's end, the MINI MAP lesson or photo mode).
Races and driving
- The head-on wipeout as the original's rule: driving into the nose of a traffic car, or straight into something fixed, above 22.35 m/s with a velocity change of at least your car's wipeout threshold wipes you out, adds the damage and the spin, and starts the slow motion. A car's own hit no longer wipes it out except through this rule; a bike's blow still does, and the player's Agro skips it.
- Race opponents behave as the original's after the line and away from the player: a finished racer drives its finishing route and holds on the brake instead of reversing round the finish, brain-driven racers keep simulating on the city's collision bound, and no race opponents are shown on the minimap.
- The slipstream trail and turbo sounds matched to recordings of the original: the trail is drawn over the player's own car, with the original's fog, and the charge loop, launch chirp and burn sound as the original's.
- The race start's 3-2-1 stays on the race clock, so GO lands on the GO tick.
Sound
- Landmark ambience by the original's arithmetic: the location emitters' volume between their radii, and the 342 emitters with equal radii play at -100 dB as in the original.
- Car sounds follow their car when the list moves, instead of being dropped and loaded again every frame while traffic despawns.
Fixed
- The start screen's first call no longer goes out on the start screen, where its story scene had played under the alert and taken ACCEPT (issue #2).
- Frame-time spikes of 0.4 to 1.4 seconds in police pursuits are gone: police chasing a player off the lanes no longer search the whole lane graph every tick. Long sound streams are decoded progressively instead of on the main thread, the 3D hook icons and the minimap are drawn on the GPU, and hookman, hangout, grid and pedestrian assets are read ahead on threads. What is drawn and simulated is unchanged.
- South Central's lots, sidewalks and lawn edges were painted opaque white, and the GPS map over them showed white blocks; the ground layers that have no grime map now draw no grime.
- The GPS map's icons could end up over the prompt bar after another navsys screen was opened first.
- The HUD and minimap movies showed their placeholders (the race clock's 1:23.45, a white map mask) for a few frames after the opening's scene.
- The pause panel could lose its black list and cursor bar, because the textures made while the game loads behind the start-up movie did not reach the menus' renderers.
- The starters were drawn without wheels, a car a story scene poses glided with its wheels still, and the menu scenes' traffic glided on the start screen; the wheels now spin with the movement.
- A landmark whose inner radius is above its outer (50 and 49.94) no longer crashes the ambience.
Known issues
This is still an early release. Expect bugs; please report crashes for now.
Update
- This update changes the game program only (the launcher has no change but its version number); the install data version is unchanged, so there is no rebuild offered. An install built before 0.5.0 has no pond water shader file yet, and the fountain basins and ponds keep their generic look until the game data is built again.
- If something goes wrong, Export Logs on the Support tab, and Settings > General can go back to the previous game version.
Game
- The GT-R's tuning, sound and cameras are borrowed from other cars, because the disc has none of its own.
- Some sounds are approximations: the opponents' engine blend uses speed only, the traffic's obstacle, lane-limit and emergency-brake sounds are stand-ins, the junction warning follows the port's signalled junctions, the wipeout loops follow the port's wipeout flag, and the air-ride sounds are not played.
- Delivery and garage icons on the minimap are in the wrong place or have the wrong design.
- South Central's two hangout entries are not armed, and the rear-view mirror is an option that you have to switch on.
- Gear shifts at the start of a race can look delayed.
- The frame rate can still drop at random while racing; the spikes in police pursuits are fixed.
- Two-wheel-drive cars pull slightly harder than they should. Some bike behaviours (stoppie, burnout), some particle effects and parts of the pedestrian behaviour are approximations.
- The far city and a few places at dusk and dawn differ slightly from the original.
- Online play is not available.
Settings and extras not available yet
- The launcher shows the display and performance options, but the game reads
settings.tomlwhen it starts; changes in the game's OPTIONS pages are applied at once and saved. Ultrawide handling and upscaling are not available. Fullscreen has been tried on one machine only, and choosing a second monitor has not been tried. - Mods, custom music (including Spotify), controller rumble and adaptive triggers, and racing wheels are not available. The launcher's Mods and Music tabs are locked previews.
Launcher
- Windows only for now. Linux and macOS are planned and only compile-checked.
- It is not code-signed, so Windows may show "Windows protected your PC". Choose More info, then Run anyway, after checking the SHA-256 below.
- It needs the Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime (built into Windows 11 and current Windows 10) and about 14 GB of free space for the game data, plus the disc image itself.
- Only the Xbox 360 Complete Edition (USA, Europe) disc image is supported. PS3 saves can only be imported from the US release.
- The Gamepad tab is read-only and does not show the layout yet. Only English is available.
Install and update
New here? Download RustyMCLA.exe, put it in a folder of its own and start it; it walks you through the setup. You need your own disc image of the Xbox 360 version of the game (Midnight Club: Los Angeles, Complete Edition). Nothing of the game is included.
Already installed? The launcher offers this update by itself. You can always skip it.
The launcher is not code-signed, so Windows may show "Windows protected your PC". Choose More info, then Run anyway, after comparing the SHA-256 below with your download.

Rusty MCLA 0.5.0
Added
Opponents and race fields
- The computer racers drive with the original's racer brain: goals from the checkpoints and alternative paths, the navigation mesh's quickest path, the optimised race line, stuck, turn-around and off-mesh recovery, the grid rev cycle, the original's pedal rates and its rubber band. The racers also see fixed props as obstacles, so they no longer run wide through bends.
- Opponents run at the original's upgrade level for the race's difficulty, and the race fields are picked as the original's race scripts pick them (cars and drivers by the difficulty's band around your car). Motorcycles race again, and roaming, red light and freeway hookmen keep the value they appeared with.
- The slipstream turbo as the original's: the draft behind a leader, the charge that grows and holds, the burn from the nitrous button, its HUD meter, camera lens, trail and sounds, and the slipstream tutorial in the first story race.
Career and difficulty
- The new career's opening as the original's: the film (skip with START, A or Y), the black until the city has streamed, the vehicle select, the clock warp to 17:00 and the two starters left in the lot.
- A new career cruises only its mission's man (every district stays locked until the first race is won), the flash-headlights tutorial shows over the SIDEKICK tip, and the racer icon flashes for the man the current objective points at.
- Race difficulty and layout from the original's scripts: the story men's own rules, pink slips, paybacks, red light men, and the tournament and series panels opening on the original's difficulty.
- Red light and freeway races without the race clock and with GO alone, the red light's climb-then-dive warp and its own start scene and clock, and the time trial panel with its TARGET TIME badge.
- Story scenes light their characters as the original does (the game's three lights, with the character, teeth, visor, skin and pedestrian shader programs).
- A hangout's standing car comes down on the first surface under its place instead of being dropped from 50 metres.
Garage and cars
- The cut Nissan GT-R (R35) can be bought and races as an opponent. The disc has its model, rims and garage pictures but no vehicle data, so it uses the Audi R8's tuning and set-up, the 350Z's engine sound and the R8's cameras, at the R8's showroom place for $118,000. Cars whose only lock is an online reward (the R8) are bought like any other.
- The garage keeps a car's damage and repairs it as the original does, the badges and lamp rings follow the original's chrome program, and the showroom strip keeps the selected car among its six pictures.
- The trunk pieces, second exhaust tip and rear tips follow the original's rules.
Looks
- Tyre smoke from the original's tyre particle table: slide, drive, wet and burnout smoke at each wheel's contact, with the original's draw programs.
- Particles drawn as the original does: water rings and fountain bases, the base light, unlit programs, scrape trails and sparks, litter, the props' break effects, the hydrant's water, and the fountain basins' pond water.
- UI and scene smoothing as the original's: the menus drawn at 4x and the driving view at 2x, the minimap at 4 samples, texture filtering, the original's streak motion blur, walkers culled at 500 metres, and the plants' far clip.
- The ambient cars are taken out as the original's career opening does, and the navigation mesh's invented shortcut planner is gone (off-road stretches of the route line are straight hops).
- Traffic lights as the original: the switch held by the player's lane or the cars on the junction's rails, lane traffic waiting for a clear box on green, and each lit lamp's streak drawn into the road reflection.
Settings
- OPTIONS > DISPLAY in the game now has WINDOW MODE, RESOLUTION, MONITOR, VSYNC, FPS CAP (applied at once and written back to
settings.toml) and an FPS COUNTER (off, fps or frame time). - New options, all defaulting to the original's look: ANTI-ALIASING, BLOOM, DEPTH OF FIELD, MOTION BLUR, RENDER SCALE and TEXTURE FILTERING on DISPLAY, and SHADOW RESOLUTION, DRAW DISTANCE and DETAIL LEVEL on PERFORMANCE (HIGH-DETAIL TRAFFIC is now DETAIL LEVEL 3X).
Launcher
- Settings > Display and game is laid out as the game's two pages: a DISPLAY group (window mode, resolution, monitor, vsync, frame rate cap, FPS counter, anti-aliasing, texture filtering, render scale, bloom, depth of field, motion blur, upscaling) and a PERFORMANCE group (shadow resolution, draw distance, detail level, intro speed). Intro, window mode, resolution, frame rate cap, vsync and FPS counter are live.
- The installer translates a ninth shader (the pond water) on your machine.
Fixed
- Racers ran faster and wider through bends than the original's because they did not see fixed props; a 1600 m bend now takes 38.7 m/s instead of 43.7 (the original: 36.0 to 37.4).
- A hangout's payback client could stand on a shop's canopy roof, and its car crept down the lot's slope.
- Race fields could be picked from the wrong cars and drivers, and motorcycles did not race.
- The tournament man's difficulty, icon colour and panel now come from his district's tournament mission, whichever mission started him (South Central's included).
- The garage's repair boxes did not ask because the car's damage was dropped on entering.
Known issues
This is still an early release. Expect bugs; please report crashes for now.
Update
- This update changes the game program and the launcher; the install data version is unchanged, so there is no rebuild offered. The new pond shader is made by the installer, so an install built before this release has no pond water file yet and the fountain basins and ponds keep their generic look until the game data is built again.
- If something goes wrong, Export Logs on the Support tab, and Settings > General can go back to the previous game version.

Rusty MCLA 0.4.0
Added
Races, tournaments and the world around them
- GOAL ATTACK is built: the entry on the pause MODES tab, the goal list and target time panel, the TARGET TIME badge, the damage goal and the reward.
- Tournaments as the original runs them: the standings after every race (points 7 / 4 / 2 / 1 / 0, sorted by total), CONTINUE, QUIT and RESTART TOURNAMENT with their questions, a lost tournament ending the attempt, and the TOURNAMENT WON / LOST and SERIES WON / LOST banners with the series' own race-over menu.
- The repair question after a race (a free quick fix, greyed when there is nothing to fix), RETURN TO CRUISE going straight back while the police are on you, and B doing nothing on the race-over menu.
- The camera climb before the dive into the next race, and the payback's accept and warp.
- Driving into a garage and pulling into a hangout as the original does it: the camera ease, the place-name band, the entry scene and the fade.
- Gas stations from the original's script: the nitro canister when you roll through, and the SERVICE STATION menu (FULL FIX is free, REFILL NITRO fills every canister).
- The weather changes by the original's rule (a draw every five minutes, blended in), and South Central's missions unlock by the original's set-up script.
- Cars outside the content mask (such as the downloadable R8) are offered only with their reward, as the original does.
Cameras, photos and replay
- The original's event camera with all its events, the idle camera after 60 seconds, the wall collision and look-around stick for the driving cameras, camera shake, and the crash cameras (wipeout, damage-out and the explosion time warps).
- The photo album: taking a snapshot, saving to one of 16 slots, the overwrite and lost-snapshot questions, and viewing, with PHOTO ALBUM on the MODES tab.
- The replay has the original's camera director, and the race's start and end are replayed.
- The hidden rear-view mirror of the original, as OPTIONS > DISPLAY > REAR-VIEW MIRROR (off by default). It shows the city's details sector by sector with the original's cut-outs.
- Cutscene cars are driven by the original's animated brain instead of being posed (garage drive-outs and hangout entries), and facial blend shapes play in the story scenes.
Traffic, parked cars and pedestrians
- Parked cars come from the original's spawner and unspawner (spots, how many, when they appear and fade away), with their own wheel turn and dents.
- Traffic is the original's collider: probe wheels, rest and sleep rules, semis with their trailer constraints, physical traffic that brakes and is moved by contacts, and cars that leave the road go the original's way.
- Traffic draws the way the original does: LOD 1 and LOD 2 models chosen by depth and car type, cars outside the view or behind occluders left out, lamp states and glows, the brake lock, the drawn wheels' compression, and dents and scrapes from car contacts.
- OPTIONS has a new PERFORMANCE page with HIGH-DETAIL TRAFFIC (off by default: the original's LOD by distance) and a DISPLAY page; ARCADE's TRAFFIC row now scales the spawner as the original does.
- The ambient spawners' cutscene mode, race AmbientData paths as items, and the original's start-speed rules for every ambient spawn.
Cars and controls
- Lamps from the original's writer: eased head, brake and reversing lamps, the shift light, the police lamps and their glows, and the garage lighting the head lamps in the cabin views.
- The bike's spin on both brakes, wobble and air control with the weight button, and the wheelie distance statistic.
- The HUD's tach shows the engine sound's own rpm and the speedometer the body's whole speed. The handbrake is read through the pad's frame, and jump statistics ignore anything the driving cannot do.
Damage
- The car's collision solve hands each contact back its own multipliers, loose pieces sleep and wake as in the original, and the "stuck" reset is armed by the island's contacts as the original does it; checked against recordings of the original.
Installer
- The 42 small scripts the disc stores in an uncompressed form (empty mission stubs and a few cutscene and test scripts) are now converted like the others when game data is built.
Fixed
- A racer being reset (stuck, or moved along its line outside the streamed city) could throw away the shared physics level and crash the next car's contacts with an index out of bounds.
- Cars could be left out of every pass (for example during a race start's warp), which stopped the renderer on a missing bind group.
- A won race no longer completes a tournament by itself: the objective is the points after the last race.
- A race started from another race's results no longer keeps the previous race's start plan.
- Traffic's wheels use their own bones' names, and dents sit on the wheel's bone, none on the tyre.
Known issues
This is still an early release. Expect bugs; please report crashes for now.
Update
- This update changes only the game program, so there is no data rebuild: the launcher offers it on Home and your save and settings stay as they are. The 42 uncompressed scripts are converted only when game data is built for the first time; an existing install keeps them as they are.
- If something goes wrong, Export Logs on the Support tab, and Settings > General can go back to the previous game version.
Game
- Some sounds are approximations: the opponents' engine blend uses speed only, the traffic's obstacle, lane-limit and emergency-brake sounds are stand-ins, the junction warning follows the port's signalled junctions, the wipeout loops follow the port's wipeout flag, and the air-ride sounds are not played.
- Wheel smoke still looks wrong and see-through.
- Delivery and garage icons on the minimap are in the wrong place or have the wrong design. The flash-to-challenge tutorial is not shown.
- South Central's two hangout entries are not armed, and the rear-view mirror is an option that you have to switch on.
- Gear shifts at the start of a race can look delayed.
- The frame rate drops at random while racing.
- Ultrawide handling, upscaling, render scale and anti-aliasing are shown greyed in the launcher.
- There is no settings page inside the game for the display settings; the game reads
settings.tomlwhen it starts. Fullscreen has been tried on one machine only, and choosing a second monitor has not been tried. - Mods, custom music (including Spotify), controller rumble and adaptive triggers, and racing wheels are not available. The launcher's Mods and Music tabs are locked previews.

Rusty MCLA 0.3.0
Added
Traffic
- Cars ride the lanes' real curves instead of straight lines, so junction turns are smooth, and step along them at the original's speed.
- Traffic obeys the lights as the original does: it stops at the stop line and the queue clears when the light changes (a queue that stood still for a whole test run now clears in seconds).
- Recovery, passing a stopped car, backing up, semis with one of five trailers, the original's car sizes, and the spawner's hidden-spot test and rules for where cars may appear.
- Traffic cars stand on the road the way the original's do, take their type's own colours and paint, and pitch and lean with braking, speeding up and turning.
Damage
- Cars now share one physics level, so car-to-car and car-to-prop crashes go through the original's solver, and broken props leave loose pieces that sleep and wake as in the original.
- The original's damage map: dents and scrapes, scratched paint and bare metal, and the dirt film on tyres after scraping.
- Cracked and broken windows, the glass break and its sound.
- A torn-off bumper is a real object that bounces, slides and sleeps, with its own impact and scrape sounds.
Looks and lights
- Windows seen from the driver's seat use the original's in-car glass, and traffic glass fades by camera distance.
- The player's car takes the lamp rows from your save's own record of the car, so each set-up has its own lamps.
- Pedestrians at night are lit by their own four lights, picked and eased as in the original.
Camera
- The camera button steps through the original's five views with their blend and cut, the HUD shows the camera bar, and a handbrake donut brings in the Burnout view.
Fixed
- Junction lanes no longer turn 90 degrees at a corner point: traffic follows the true lane curves.
- A queue of traffic at a light could stand for the whole session; it now clears.
- Standing cars at merges no longer flicker and deadlock.
- Contacts between a car and the city could get the wrong force carried over from the previous frame; each contact now keeps its own.
- Ten car set-ups that were extracted under junk names (S7, Murcielago DUB, Trans Am time trial, two GH 36 rivals, five police cars) are now found by their name hash; new installs also get their real names.
- Collisions with loose props are steadier: a loose prop moves as a whole, checks every city polygon, and sleeps and wakes by the original's rules.
Known issues
This is still an early release. Expect bugs; please report crashes for now.
Update
- This update changes only the game program, so there is no data rebuild: the launcher offers it on Home and your save and settings stay as they are. Cars whose set-ups were extracted under junk names keep those names in the installed data until you next rebuild from your disc.
- Updating from 0.2.0 still has not been tested on a second machine. If something goes wrong, Export Logs on the Support tab, and Settings > General can go back to the previous game version.
- Entering a garage can play the wrong intro cutscene. The flash-to-challenge tutorial is not shown.
- Gear shifts at the start of a race can look delayed.
- The frame rate drops at random while racing.
- GOAL ATTACK mode is not built.
- Two-wheel-drive cars pull slightly harder than they should. Some bike behaviours (stoppie, burnout, wobble, air control), some particle effects and parts of the pedestrian behaviour are approximations.
- The far city and a few places at dusk and dawn differ slightly from the original.
- Online play is not available.
Settings and extras not available yet
- Ultrawide handling, upscaling, render scale and anti-aliasing are shown greyed in the launcher.

Rusty MCLA 0.2.0
Added
Sound (the biggest change)
- The original's sound system: engine loops that cross-fade with revs, load and gear, kick, shifts and backfire; tyre, suspension and collision sounds by surface and impact strength; breaking props; the city's ambience by district with distant one-shots.
- Rain and thunder, the wet road, police sirens, bullhorn, call signs and radio chatter, the traffic's horns, skids, alarms, driver speech and pass-by whooshes, bike wheelie and stoppie sounds, the phone, pickups, refills, quick fix, damage beeps and the camera-pan sounds.
- Moving hood, trunk lid and bumper sounds (creaks, flaps, scrapes).
Damage
- Cars now take damage from walls, posts and kerbs by the original's contact rule, and the hood, trunk lid and bumpers move, hang and fall off on every car, checked against recordings of the original.
Races
- The original's pre-race rules: racers hold their grid slot with the brake on, you can rev and burn out before GO, and the computer racers do their burnouts and revving.
- Race start scenes as the original shows them: the grid table, taunt scenes with driver gestures, speech and car windows, the camera flight onto the scene and the 3-2-1 and GO on the scene's own countdown.
- Race end as the original shows it: the slow-motion stop, the camera swinging round to the standings, and the race-over menu at the original's timing. The rivals brake to a stop past the line.
- Green markers over the computer racers, and the ring-and-arrow icons over the nearest hookmen, garages, hangouts and service stations while cruising.
World
- Traffic rides its lanes with the original's speed rules, spawner and density, and reacts to what is around it.
- Pedestrians spawn, walk the sidewalks, sidestep and give way by the original's rules.
- Occlusion with the original's 400 m range and selection order.
- Particles and lighting: the checkpoint smoke and arrows, lit fire and sparks, fog on particles and the head lamps in the car's own light colour.
Controls and launcher
- Game controllers are read through SDL3, so pads that Windows does not treat as Xbox pads (axes in the wrong order, triggers read as the right stick) work. The pad you play with is the one that is read, and the start screen takes the pad's Start button.
- The Install page's build card keeps its spacing with all five stages.
Fixed
- The left and right channels of music, ambience and dialogue no longer drift apart (up to a second).
- Tyres of lowered set-ups are no longer drawn into the road (257 of 391 set-ups, including most race rivals).
- Your own car can burn out in the countdown, and the opponent no longer jumps beside you at the end of a race.
- Racers now have icons above them, and the free-roam icons are drawn as in the original.
- Tyre smoke on the grid follows each wheel's own slide.
Known issues
This is still an early release. Expect bugs; please report crashes for now.
Update from 0.1.0
- This update rebuilds your game data once (data version 4): the launcher shows "Rebuild needed" on Home. Choose it on the Install page; you need your disc image again, and it takes a few minutes. Your save and settings are kept, and the launcher backs the save up first.
- It is the first time the launcher updates itself and the game from a real release. If something goes wrong, Export Logs on the Support tab, and Settings > General can go back to the previous game version.
Game
- Some sounds are approximations: the opponents' engine blend uses speed only, the traffic's obstacle, lane-limit and emergency-brake behaviour are stand-ins, the junction warning follows the port's signalled junctions, the wipeout loops follow the port's wipeout flag, a fallen bumper's ground contacts use its small body, and the air-ride sounds are not played.
- Wheel smoke elsewhere still looks wrong and see-through.
- Delivery and garage icons on the minimap are in the wrong place or have the wrong design.
Some bike behaviours (stoppie, burnout, wobble, air control), some particle effects and parts of the pedestrian and traffic behaviour are approximations.
- The far city and a few places at dusk and dawn differ slightly from the original.
- Online play is not available.
Settings and extras not available yet
- Ultrawide handling, upscaling, render scale and anti-aliasing are shown greyed in the launcher.
- There is no settings page inside the game; the game reads
settings.tomlwhen it starts. Fullscreen has been tried on one machine only, and choosing a second monitor has not been tried. - Mods, custom music (including Spotify), controller rumble and adaptive triggers, and racing wheels are not available. The launcher's Mods and Music tabs are locked previews.

Rusty MCLA 0.1.0
Added
The game
- The whole city: all 439 streamed sectors with textures, plants, props that are solid or breakable, street furniture, working traffic signals, particle effects, a sea, day and night, and weather (clear, cloudy, foggy, stormy, rain).
- A full lighting pipeline: HDR, sun and ambient light by time of day, four shadow cascades, sky, neon, tunnels, wet-road reflections, glows and depth of field.
- Every car and bike on the disc, with part lists, purchases, paint (types, fades, second colour), rims, vinyls, interior colours, the performance shop and hydraulics, and the garage.
- The vehicle physics: tyres, suspension, engine, gearbox, drivetrain, collisions, and bike balance, checked against the original's behaviour.
- The original menus, played as the game's own screens: HUD, pause, garage, phone, rim shop, plus the minimap and the GPS map.
- The career: missions with the original text and speech, and every race kind (circuit, ordered, time trial, hangouts, series, tournaments, deliveries, paybacks, pink slips, race-editor races), with rewards, reputation, unlocks and achievements. Flag games (Base War, Split Base, Stockpile, Capture the Flag, Keep Away) can be played offline against computer drivers, which the original only offered online.
- Police pursuits, hookmen races, roaming racers and payback chases; power-ups; checkpoints.
- Pedestrians, drivers and traffic on the real lane graph; all audio banks, engine loops and music; cutscenes and movies.
- Chase, hood and cockpit cameras, an in-race replay and photo mode.
- Controls: the original's gamepad layout with its mapping editor, and a keyboard with 32 rebindable actions (two keys each). F12 takes a screenshot, Alt+Enter switches between windowed, borderless and fullscreen.
- Your save is kept outside the install folder and can be backed up and restored.
The launcher (one portable file)
- Builds the game's data from your own disc image once: it checks the disc first, then extracts, converts audio and video, and translates the sky, road and sea shaders on your computer. Nothing from the game is included in this download.
- Shows the release notes on the Home page and offers updates that you can always skip. The game and the launcher itself update from signed releases.
- Export Logs writes one zip to attach to an issue (your Windows user name is removed first). The save manager makes backups, restores them, and can import a save from an Xbox 360 (including Xenia) or PS3 copy of the game.
- Eight colour themes (including Dracula, Alucard and "match my system"), a Controls tab that edits the keyboard bindings, and display settings for window mode, resolution, monitor, vsync, frame cap and intro speed.
Fixed
- Nothing yet: this is the first release.
