Freenet can be installed on macOS by using our installer, which is built-in to the FreenetTray application.

Just download the most recent release, double-click to unzip it, and double-click the app to run it.

If no Freenet installation is found on your Mac, FreenetTray will offer to install fred for you.

It will also offer to move the FreenetTray app to the /Applications folder if it was run from another location.

During normal use, FreenetTray will launch itself minimized to the menu bar. There is no Dock icon, because there are no application windows aside from the settings area.
