Contacts and Birthdays

Use contacts for family-relevant people and use birthdays to keep important dates visible in the dashboard and calendar.

What contacts and birthdays support

  • contact cards
  • colored avatars
  • CSV import/export
  • birthday extraction from contacts
  • birthday countdowns
  • birthday indicators in the calendar
  • CardDAV sync through phone sync
  • search

Good first setup

  1. Add core family contacts.
  2. Add birthdays for people whose dates should be visible to the household.
  3. Import contacts from CSV if you already have a list.
  4. Set up CardDAV only after the basic contact list looks right.

Phone sync expectations

Tribu supports CardDAV for contacts. Use a Personal Access Token as the DAV password.

Expected behavior:

  • contacts created in Tribu can appear in compatible clients
  • contacts created in a connected client can sync back when write scopes are enabled
  • one family has one address book URL
  • reverse proxy rules must forward /dav and /.well-known/carddav

Troubleshooting

Contacts do not sync

  • Check the CardDAV URL from Settings > Phone sync.
  • Use your Tribu email and a Personal Access Token.
  • Confirm contacts:read or contacts:write scopes.
  • Confirm reverse proxy routing for /dav and /.well-known/carddav.

Birthdays do not show in the calendar

  • Confirm the contact or birthday entry has a valid date.
  • Refresh the calendar.
  • Check that you are viewing the correct family.
