V2 Requirements

John A. Paz edited this page Oct 2, 2026 · 25 revisions

Release status — October 2, 2026: John explicitly authorized V2 production publication. V2 is live on main; the earlier staging-only holds below are historical. V2 launch records launch article, comparison/screenshot/portrait, AI disclosure, search, CI, metadata, deployment, verification and remaining scope. Physical Fold6 review and broader operations remain tracked separately.

Last updated: October 1, 2026.

Approved résumé storytelling — October 1, 2026

John approved the reviewed résumé prototype (“Love it, make it happen”) and authorized integration and wiki updates. PR #40 is merged into v2 at 7b04338ababbfae33ed22cf80f223b7f4fa0811f. Reviewed feature revision: f645c66efcd49909e2abf10c6dc1b62716e9df60. Staging selection is restored to v2. Education is a dedicated section with equivalent heading weight, an official UCF stacked black mark, University of Central Florida, Class of 2008, Bachelor of Arts in English and Technical Writing Track; committed at 4bd9d60ebe07493902e3ac1b5e01faca1f9bfbc3 following John’s request to give the degree appropriate prominence.

  • Preserve the existing /resume/ page composition and desktop identity/contribution columns, 32px gap and 20px vertical row padding. The approved enrichment adds content height without compressing the existing spacing.
  • Each role now has a source-grounded impact statement and concise contribution summary, industry/team context, clickable work-type and technology badges, and expandable work details. The warm canyon palette, restrained raised surfaces and Bootstrap-style view controls remain consistent with the site.
  • Chronology is the default: six recent roles, with PatientPoint, Pentaho and EA Tiburon available under earlier experience. Group by primary work type or industry; all nine selected roles participate in filtering and grouped views.
  • Work type, industry, department/team and technology facets combine with AND. The filter panel starts collapsed. Badge clicks expose the corresponding facet. Copy view link preserves selections and anchors the recipient at experience. Reload and browser Back/Forward restore URL state; empty combinations have a clear recovery message.
  • URL parameters are view=type|industry, work, industry, team, tech, and earlier=1. Chronology is implicit. Reset clears facets while retaining grouping. Unknown values are ignored, and unrelated parameters are retained.
  • Mobile rows use a stacked timeline, wrapping badges, expandable details and a compact wrapping toolbar. Physical Fold6 visual confirmation remains pending; the connected review browser did not provide responsive viewport resizing.
  • Evidence comes from the September 29 résumé and September 8 saved LinkedIn export. Live LinkedIn blocked retrieval. The work-sample packet's copied Bitbucket material in its Airbnb section was excluded from new Airbnb claims. Only supported metrics were included (PatientPoint 200+ users across two countries; EA 250+ wiki pages; Atlassian more than 10 external presentations). Team labels identify documented functional context rather than guessed official org names.

Canonical feature PR CI and feature staging build/deployment passed. Live browser checks verified all three views, combined facets, badge toggling, empty state, reset, earlier-experience persistence, reload, Back and Copy view link; desktop spacing and absence of horizontal overflow were verified. Résumé · Implementation notes.

The prototype's original draft/pending statements are historical and superseded by this approval record. Production promotion remains a separately approved release step. Next sequence remains site-wide search #26, toolbar refinement #38, then release checks.

About approved and completed — October 1, 2026

John approved the About page and requested two final copy changes, now committed to v2 at 5e10095de0ec0ab6131e7ad0cb24b6598f19887b: sports now describes attending games around the world, including the World Cup, and years coaching his kids; comedy now connects creating, practicing and delivering work presentations with jokes to trying stand-up after getting laughs at tech conferences. The UCF-playing paragraph and cheeky athletic-speed joke are removed. The single-column layout and arms-crossed splash photograph are retained. About #36 is complete at John’s request.

Canonical build 36956240938 passed. Staging deployment 36956446527 passed. Live build-info independently confirms v2 at this exact commit; browser verification confirms both replacement paragraphs and absence of the removed copy. Live About. Broader physical-device and launch checks remain in the release workstream. Next: site-wide search #26, then toolbar design #38.

About and recent branch integration — October 1, 2026

Implemented About #36 in PR #37, merged into v2 at 5fbef539759b2f19406f1bbae849311315ed7bc5. The subsequent README merge, 6ae0fcef2b773d1d44a8af088e3e7b9659d59d0a, was the staging source revision before the final editorial changes recorded above.

  • /about/ is a single-column page: introduction, arms-crossed splash photograph, readable personal narrative and a simple contact footer. Covers interests, pre-Atlassian life, Australia, creative writing, comedy, gardening and football/soccer. John approved the personal copy after the final edits recorded above; relocation dates are not invented.
  • Exact source photo: assets/images/John-splash-1.png. Full pose retained in responsive 480/736px WebP exports (30/54 KB versus the original 650 KB), with intrinsic dimensions and descriptive alt text.
  • Biography is grounded in John's published January 2019 non-techies essay. Preserve /my-story/ speaking material and featured-talk link. Navigation and About Me tile now reach /about/. Removed the duplicate root theme stub competing for /about/.
  • Landing-screen-tiles, professional-overview-preview, and about-page-preview are all ancestors of v2. Writing/Blog is integrated in dfcc846. The recent production README is also merged into v2; old Ver2/docu experiments and Dependabot are outside this recent page-work integration.

Canonical About CI 36954410201 and integrated-page CI 36954625591 passed. Initial integrated staging publication 36954759309 passed; build-info records v2 at 6ae0fcef2b773d1d44a8af088e3e7b9659d59d0a. Browser checks confirmed the full portrait, all six narrative headings, canonical URL, desktop no-overflow, Resume dropdown, and Writing pagination/search/reset. Physical Fold6 review remains pending. Live About page · Implementation notes. Production promotion remains separate.

Next course, superseding the earlier search deferral

  1. Proper site-wide search #26: build-maintained public-content index, useful cross-page results and compact accessible entry point. Keep Writing's collapsed local filter/search distinct.
  2. Shared toolbar design dive #38: preserve all functionality John likes, then review hierarchy, alignment, spacing, corners, menu wrapping, search placement and mobile/Fold behavior across pages.
  3. Final content/link/accessibility/responsive checks and review the exact staging revision before production promotion.

Current accepted landing screen — October 1, 2026

John approved the actual staging preview and authorized merging PR #33 into v2. Merge commit: bff4688d3f4bf79bfddba2c8f952ac15ffc4832c. This is the accepted landing-screen baseline; the dated iterations below preserve development history.

  • Six rectangular section links retain the approved order: About Me / My Blog; Resume & Portfolio / Code & Projects; Guides & Articles / Talks & Presentations.
  • Tiles are half the prior review height with column widths preserved. Labels retain their previous size, left alignment, softer italic Palatino-family lettering, and a faint embossed text shadow.
  • The left column progresses through sand tones and the right through clay tones. Each tile has a distinct solid background and corresponding cocoa text shade. Hover/focus subtly shades that tile’s own color and lifts 2px; shallow shadows keep the raised feel restrained. Reduced-motion support remains.
  • A quiet separator follows the six section tiles, then nine compact featured cards: three desktop columns, two tablet columns, one narrow mobile column.
  • Preserve the existing introduction, toolbar and downloads. Search remains deferred (#26); Dark/Darker themes remain separate (#34).

Final review-source CI run 36945188105 and staging run 36945183149 passed. Browser review confirmed half-height tiles, restored label size, six distinct ink shades, nine featured cards and no horizontal overflow. Physical Fold6 verification remains a separate check. Staging now follows v2 again instead of the temporary review commit. This merge does not publish to production. Implementation notes.

Writing and Blog integration — October 1, 2026

John approved the Writing/Blog draft and requested collapsible search/filter controls, closed by default, with less space above the articles. Committed to v2 in dfcc84651acd0451d7e384cf12f540cd5b8343fc, preserving the accepted homepage and integrating the previously approved professional Work page.

  • /writing/: article tiles, title/topic/description search, topic filtering, four sort choices, reset, empty state, and six articles per page. Pagination remains visible even on a single page. Search & filter is a native disclosure closed on initial load; collapsing preserves selections and shows an Active indicator when nondefault. This is catalog-local discovery; global search #26 remains deferred.
  • /blog/: a Blog section heading and single-column newsletter-style archive, using the ordinary page scrollbar and links to original stories. No signup/subscription service is included.
  • Initial catalog has ten sourced articles/drafts. Unverified publication dates are omitted and undated items sort after dated entries. Completeness and further content migration remain open.
  • Navigation and homepage destinations now reach the dedicated pages. Interior toolbar remains one row where it fits; narrow layouts retain compact joined downloads and constrained wrapping menus.

Implementation and validation notes. Local Liquid/Sass, JavaScript syntax, DOM interaction/pagination and workflow YAML/shell checks passed. Canonical source CI run 36954016994 and staging build/deploy run 36954035058 passed. Live HTTPS browser review verified closed discovery by default, search and topic filtering, reset, pagination to the remaining four articles, and no desktop overflow. Blog has eight entries in one 720px reading column with no desktop overflow. Physical Fold6 review remains pending. Production promotion is separate.

Branch-based staging review

Staging workflow commit 073be5b471b467bbab9cf4aad40f48e5856c8446 adds a persistent staging-source.txt selection (currently v2) and an optional source_ref input for manual runs. Select a feature branch in that file to keep its latest commits/merges on staging; changing the file triggers publication. Manual overrides apply to one run. The existing 30-minute schedule reads the saved selection, so source pushes are picked up on scheduled refresh rather than instant cross-repository push events. One shared staging URL displays the selected source; build-info.json records its actual ref and commit. Workflow guide.

Next authorized page

About work #36 has started with the source/image audit. Approved direction: single-column page, the arms-crossed splash photograph, interests, life before Atlassian, journey to Australia, creative writing, comedy, gardening, and sports emphasizing football/soccer. Exact photo visually confirmed as assets/images/John-splash-1.png. Verify biography/chronology before specific claims and preserve the current speaking content and links. Preparation notes.

Purpose and principles

Share what John knows, document what he makes, and help people find reasons to work with him. Support professional opportunities, useful guides, writing, speaking, and experiments. The site should remain useful outside a job hunt and accommodate interests beyond the tech industry.

Design principles: Clear, Clean, Clever. Clarity takes priority. Avoid crowded compositions and confusing navigation. Pages must work independently for people arriving through shared links, including paz.tips.

Navigation and content

Primary navigation: Home | Writing | Work | About. Work is a provisional label.

  • Home: a personal introduction and curated paths into the content.
  • Writing: articles, practical guides, and project journal entries.
  • Work: professional overview/web resume, experience, capabilities, project case studies, and talks/presentation videos.
  • About: personal interests, background, and approach, distinct from the professional overview.
  • Resume means downloadable versions, not a separate top-level section. Provide clear access throughout the site (#27).
  • Search (#26) and contact should be easy to reach.

Homepage requirements

Reference: https://baleon.netlify.app/

  • Persistent top navigation on desktop.
  • Persistent left introduction while content on the right scrolls, matching Baleon.
  • One normal page scrollbar, without a separate scrolling pane.
  • The left introduction shares the main background, with no enclosing panel or divider.
  • Six rectangular section tiles on the right, in the approved order below. At typical desktop sizes, the last row straddles the fold.
  • On mobile, the introduction appears above the content and scrolls normally.

Exact sidebar content

Circular avatar, with two lines to its right:

John A. Paz
Writer | Speaker | Human

Large headline: Curious, Creative, Clever

The smaller supporting line Clear Communication was removed during the September 30 review. Preserve the current condensed introduction.

Welcome paragraph:

Welcome to the online home for my projects. Here you can review my work, read my writing, or learn how to do something new. I love hearing from you, get in touch!

Links: Threads, Instagram, LinkedIn, GitHub. Make “get in touch!” a direct contact link. Confirm destinations before implementation. Missing avatar and URLs may use clearly identified prototype placeholders.

Journal-style imagery may be explored later and is not part of the initial commitment.

Other page directions

  • About: Nomod portrait/introduction composition in the supplied screenshot. Demo author/team sections are not requirements.
  • Writing: grid and list views, following the supplied presentation.
  • Article: simple initial reading layout, following the supplied presentation.
  • Work: professional overview, projects, and speaking. Detailed layout remains open.
  • Talk pages may include video, a description, event/date, and slides or transcripts when available.
  • Supporting pages: search results, contact, and 404 recovery.
  • Useful guides should identify scope and when instructions were last reviewed.

Prototype color direction (September 30, 2026)

Use the canyon-inspired palette for the first homepage prototype. This is an accepted direction to test in context, with final color tokens and usage subject to visual and accessibility review.

Swatch Hex Initial role
Pale sand #F2D8A8 Light page background
Muted taupe #92795D Secondary surfaces or restrained details
Warm stone #BEA17F Content card or section surfaces
Deep espresso #2B1605 Primary text and dark contrast
Rust brown #754116 Links and small accents

Keep the introduction blended into the page background. Check text and interactive contrast, hover/focus states, and mobile readability in the working prototype before settling exact combinations. The palette comes from the supplied canyon image; typography, grid organization, imagery, and the Work label remain open.

References and open decisions

References: johnapaz-concepts.pptx and supplied Baleon/Nomod screenshots. Baleon defines initial homepage structure and scrolling; Nomod informs About/search; Journal is a possible later image treatment.

Earlier compact homepage concepts were rejected as too busy. Platform/theme, typography, final palette application, final imagery, Work label, homepage grid organization, and content selection are not locked. Assistant-proposed placeholder headlines and grouping are not approved requirements.

First implementation milestone

V2 — Responsive homepage prototype

Establish staging (#25) before v2 implementation. Deliver an isolated responsive homepage preview with the exact introduction, desktop persistence, square grids, navigation, and mobile layout. Review with John before extending to other pages or production launch. No deadline has been specified. This milestone is a prototype, not the full v2 launch.

Related issues

The wiki records requirements and decisions for contributors and AI sessions. Executable configuration belongs in the source repository; public project entries explain the choices and lessons.

Responsive review requirements

Galaxy Z Fold series is a required design/test class, with Galaxy Z Fold6 the priority. Retain cover-screen and unfolded layouts, portrait/landscape, narrow split-window sizes, and opening/closing viewport transitions in future page reviews. Distinguish CSS viewport simulations from physical-device tests; Samsung Internet and Chrome on a physical Fold6 still need verification.

First homepage prototype — September 30, 2026

Implemented on v2 using the existing Jekyll/Editorial foundation, dedicated homepage layout/includes/Sass, exact introduction copy, persistent navigation, square cards, mobile stacking, and professional overview/PDF access. The updated canyon palette direction is applied; final roles, typography, card grouping/order/imagery, and Work label remain provisional. Threads is marked link pending until its profile URL is confirmed. Existing March 2025 downloads remain pending refresh under #27.

Local safe Jekyll build and staging checks passed for 21 HTML pages. Chromium checks passed at 17 viewport sizes, including Fold-series/Fold6 cover and unfolded portrait/landscape simulations; same-page folding/resizing, keyboard skip navigation, 200% text sizing overflow, and local destinations/assets passed. Local Ruby 3.2 needed scratch-only legacy compatibility helpers; unchanged Ruby 2.7 CI remains the canonical dependency check. No physical-device or secure live-preview claim.

Prototype choices, validation matrix, and screenshots. Writing temporarily targets the homepage grid; Work opens the current web overview and About the existing personal story. Review these prototype choices before extending other pages. Production publishing configuration is unchanged; staging HTTPS remains pending under #28.

Review refinements and staging publication — September 30, 2026

John requested that “Curious, Creative, Clever” fit on one line, that the desktop name be larger, and that the page use a lighter background without becoming white. The prototype now keeps the C3 heading on one line with responsive sizing, enlarges “John A. Paz” on desktop, and uses pale sand #F8EBD3 for the page background. This supersedes the earlier stacked headline and darker background treatment; final palette roles remain open for review.

Source commit f7ae2fb6c56113900570046ece7be61d78d2a8d2 on v2 was published by successful staging run 36777555447. The live HTTP build-info.json independently confirms this commit. The canonical Ruby 2.7 staging build and 21-page staging checks passed. Local responsive checks passed at 17 viewport sizes, including representative Galaxy Z Fold 6 cover, unfolded, landscape, and resize-transition layouts; physical-device verification remains pending.

The current preview is http://staging.johnapaz.com/. HTTPS still fails certificate hostname validation and remains tracked in issue #28. No certificate warning was bypassed. Production publishing configuration is unchanged.

Compact composition review — September 30, 2026

John requested a compact toolbar without a divider, less space above the body, consistent navigation typography, a more expressive C3 font, a larger Clear Communication line ending near the R in Clever, tightly grouped introduction text, working social icons, and consistent tile title spacing. Threads handle confirmed by John: john.paz.stories; link: https://www.threads.com/@john.paz.stories. This supersedes the earlier pending-link state.

Implemented in 227162fba514aa6bccba3778e8b049b8a4f5b091 on v2: centered primary navigation, reduced toolbar/body padding, Georgia italic C3 headline, closely paired supporting line, condensed welcome/social spacing, bundled social icons and inline Threads @ symbol, equal card text-section heights/padding and reserved title rows. Centering and the specific serif font remain prototype choices for visual review. Card grouping/order and final design tokens remain open.

Safe local Jekyll build and 17 viewport checks passed, including Fold 6 cover/unfolded layouts and resize transitions. Physical device verification remains pending. Staging publication initiated in run 36779508096; confirm its result before treating this revision as live. Production configuration remains unchanged; HTTPS remains under #28.

Pills, downloads, and tile proportions — September 30, 2026

John prefers standard-size pill links. Use icon-only two-tone social links, with accessible names; remove the visible “A few things to explore” heading. The toolbar download control reads Resume | Portfolio, with two dropdowns. Choosing an available document downloads it directly; each option carries a small actual file-type badge.

Resume categories: Developer/API Tech Writer; Knowledge Manager; Content Designer; People Leader; Public Speaker/Presenter. Portfolio categories: Developer Documentation Samples; Technical Writing Samples; Content Design Samples; Coding/Automation Samples. Use latest matching dated versions from Drive, copied intact to same-origin site assets for direct downloads, without changing Drive sharing. Speaker/Presenter has no matching dedicated resume located and is visibly Pending. Developer and coding samples currently use the same September 2026 packet, labelled Combined packet; dedicated files can replace it later. Exact selected source versions and mappings.

Superseding tile requirement: image/artwork is 80% of the square tile; metadata is 20%. The article title is the focal point within metadata, with much smaller category text. Keep the tile face compact; descriptions may remain available to assistive technology. This overrides earlier fixed metadata-height/10% interpretations.

Desktop introduction stickiness must work in ordinary shorter desktop windows too. The earlier 760px height exception was too broad. Current compact prototype stays sticky above 450px viewport height and scrolls at exceptionally short heights to keep links reachable. Mobile/stacked introduction scrolls normally.

Implemented in c60c8182b7c9b28db307e06d8a342c4028af8c09 on v2. Local safe Jekyll build, 17 responsive viewports including Fold6 simulations and 1440×600 sticky behavior, keyboard/text zoom, seven-width dropdown placement/dismissal tests, and all eight available PDF/DOCX downloads passed. Physical-device testing remains pending. Production configuration is unchanged. Staging run: 36781743537. HTTPS remains under #28.

Current control and spacing direction — September 30, 2026

John clarified that pill labels meant badges and prefers Bootstrap-style continuity. This supersedes earlier all-pill navigation and the Material-inspired control exploration. Remove J.Paz from the toolbar, Clear Communication from the introduction, and the separate Professional overview action. Keep text navigation and compact joined Resume/Portfolio button-style dropdowns, with consistent icon-only social actions.

Each file has separate small pill badges for actual file type and MM/DD/YY version date, with hover text and accessible label Updated: {date}. Dates reflect dated document versions, not later Drive-copy timestamps. Preserve Combined packet disclosure and Pending speaker resume state.

Spacing proposal for review: shared centered 1200px page container, 20–32px inner gutters, 32–48px desktop column gap, narrower introduction, 64px avatar and slightly smaller identity/welcome type. Mobile stacks normally with 44px interaction targets. Use Bootstrap button/badge/spacing conventions within existing Jekyll styles; a global Bootstrap import is not a settled requirement.

Implemented on v2 in d01d25a408f22c9fd4f2663c8e7c81eb6e73397d. Safe build, 17 responsive sizes including Galaxy Z Fold 6, sticky/keyboard/text zoom, and seven-width dropdown/download/badge checks passed. Physical-device verification remains pending. Staging run: https://github.com/johnapaz/johnapaz-staging/actions/runs/36786154327 . Grid grouping/order, final tokens, and Work wording remain open. Production configuration unchanged; HTTPS remains under #28.

Bootstrap button groups and single-line download rows — September 30, 2026

John requested proper button groups, SVG chevrons instead of arrow characters, smaller right-aligned Resume/Portfolio controls, centered social icons, and single-line download items. Implemented in e903433b0d3f7474b35117506b0ff6ad130bd1a8 on v2.

The homepage now loads a locally vendored, homepage-scoped subset of official Bootstrap 5.3.8 button/group/dropdown CSS with its MIT license. Primary page links and social icons use connected outlined groups; Resume/Portfolio use a compact solid button group, real button toggles and inline SVG chevrons. No global Bootstrap reset or legacy-page/theme replacement.

Download label, type and date badges occupy one line. Desktop menus fit full labels; narrow viewports use ellipsis with complete accessible labels/hover titles. Combined-packet context remains accessible and in the option hover title. Menus support arrow keys, Escape focus restoration, click/focus dismissal and exclusive open state. Touch layouts keep 44px interaction targets.

Safe Jekyll build, 17 responsive viewport checks including Fold 6, seven-width single-line/download/date/icon-group checks, desktop right alignment and touch/keyboard behavior passed. Physical-device review remains pending. Staging run: https://github.com/johnapaz/johnapaz-staging/actions/runs/36788486837 . Production configuration unchanged; HTTPS remains #28. Grid order, final visual tokens and Work wording remain open.

Centered navigation and borderless Bootstrap social icons — September 30, 2026

John requested narrower dropdowns, primary navigation centered against the page, and borderless two-tone social icons from Bootstrap Icons. This supersedes the previous left-anchored page links and outlined social group.

Implemented in v2 commit 6e9f6440b370f162ae480887d476c3cbf302f440: 390px maximum dropdown width (previously 460px), navigation centered independently of right-aligned downloads, and locally included official Bootstrap Icons 1.13.1 SVGs for Threads, Instagram, LinkedIn and GitHub, with MIT license. Social links use pale-sand circular surfaces and rust glyphs, with no borders/dividers. The group centers beneath the welcome text width rather than the wider introduction column. Homepage Font Awesome loading is removed.

Safe Jekyll build and 17 responsive viewport checks passed, including Fold6 simulations, sticky behavior, keyboard/text zoom and overflow. Seven-width checks confirm page-centered navigation, welcome-centered socials, borderless surfaces, four Bootstrap SVGs, narrow menus, single-line rows, badges and eight downloads. Physical-device checks remain pending. Staging run: https://github.com/johnapaz/johnapaz-staging/actions/runs/36789709854 . Production unchanged; HTTPS remains #28. Final tokens and content ordering remain review choices.

Plain text navbar, left socials and corrected corners — September 30, 2026

John requested no navbar borders, just text; left-align the social icons again; and make download button corners consistent. This supersedes outlined primary navigation and centered social alignment.

Implemented in v2 db73fcb91d8c77968fdf1e00049e159481ad9c0c: plain page-centered text navigation with current-page weight, left-aligned borderless two-tone Bootstrap social icons, and Resume/Portfolio rounding only the group’s outer corners at 4px. The square right edge seen in the screenshot came from a Bootstrap nested-group selector overriding the custom radius; corrected specificity now yields matching corners.

Safe Jekyll build, 17 responsive sizes including Fold6, and seven-width checks passed for exact corner values, zero nav/social borders, social left alignment, navigation centering, menus/badges and eight downloads. Physical-device testing remains pending. Staging run: https://github.com/johnapaz/johnapaz-staging/actions/runs/36790737979 . Production unchanged; HTTPS remains #28.

Accepted landing-screen decisions — October 1, 2026

This section supersedes the earlier square-image/80–20 card requirements and provisional homepage content ordering. Preserve the current introduction and toolbar: plain centered text navigation, right-aligned joined Resume/Portfolio downloads, and left-aligned two-tone Bootstrap social icons.

Row Left Right
1 About Me My Blog
2 Resume & Portfolio Code & Projects
3 Guides & Articles Talks & Presentations

Use six rectangular whole-tile links with a progression of six distinct solid canyon colors, from lighter to darker: #F2D8A8, #DDBD91, #BEA17F, #AD9271, #754116, #4B2911. No gradient inside an individual tile. First four labels use deep espresso (#2B1605); the last two use pale sand (#F8EBD3). Keep the existing curvy Georgia bold italic font. Each hover background is a darker shade of that tile’s own color, with a 3px lift over 200ms. Keyboard focus provides equivalent feedback plus a visible outline; reduced motion disables movement and transitions.

Originally the final row was intended to straddle the fold. John subsequently requested shorter tiles; prioritize shorter rectangles over an exact half-row split. Mobile stacks naturally without forcing this proportion. Retain the Galaxy Z Fold6 review requirements. Search is explicitly deferred (#26); no inactive search bar in this landing-screen scope. Admin implementation remains #31.

Implemented on the isolated landing-screen-tiles branch in PR #33, based on v2. Implementation notes and destination mappings. Reuse existing published pages, the existing Medium blog profile and the Confluence toolkit repository while dedicated v2 section pages remain later work.

The canonical safe Jekyll build and staging checker passed for commit 39ebffdf7f2c17cf38cfcc10f1b455af38f99fbd in CI run 36939391590. Local label/order, HTML escaping, Liquid rendering, Sass compilation, internal permalink declarations and contrast checks passed. Browser/Fold6 visual review remains pending. PR #33 is not a staging or production deployment.

Palette and hover clarification — October 1, 2026

John clarified that the gradient is the progression between solid tile colors, like a palette, not within each tile. Every tile has its own shaded hover reflection. The corrected implementation derives each hover color by darkening its own background by 4 percentage points of HSL lightness; all six normal/hover text combinations pass WCAG AA. Desktop tiles are about 11% shorter; tablet/mobile tiles also shorten. Remove the hover-device media gate while preserving keyboard focus and reduced-motion feedback. Corrected on PR #33 in commit 6051fb60d4607ab2c56ccb5a849088feb4050565, queued for staging review before merging v2. Browser screenshot remains blocked by staging certificate mismatch (#28). Dark/Darker themes are tracked separately in #34.

Soft raised section tiles and featured content — October 1, 2026

John confirmed: keep the six section tiles above and feature content below the six section tiles. Preserve their approved order and the current introduction/toolbar. Use closely related lighter canyon shades, all with dark espresso labels, shallow drop shadows and a faint top highlight. The feel should be subtle, touchable and raised, inspired by Material design while retaining Bootstrap-style controls. Each hover shades that tile's own color and gently increases elevation; honor keyboard focus and reduced motion.

This supersedes the earlier high-contrast palette and hover amounts. Current prototype shades: #F4DFC0, #F0D9B9, #ECD3B1, #E7CCAA, #E2C6A3, #DDBF9C. Hover darkens the tile by 2 HSL lightness points and lifts 2px. Exact visual tuning remains subject to review.

Below the six section tiles, add a restrained Bootstrap-style separator with breathing room, followed by three rows of three compact featured-content cards on desktop. Use two columns on tablet and one on narrow mobile. Keep titles readable and allow wrapping. The initial nine items reuse existing published writing, a guide, the automation toolkit and a talk; this is a reviewable selection, not a claim of latest content. Selection/order lives in _data/home.yml. Featured cards complement rather than replace the six navigation tiles. No third-party embedded widgets.

Implemented in PR #33 on landing-screen-tiles, commit 74e4a391397914f9d3f8dcd09aff26296e17eeb1. Local Liquid rendering, 6+9 item counts, image existence, Sass compilation and normal/hover contrast passed; CI and staging publication are running. Review staging before merging v2. Search remains #26; Dark/Darker themes remain #34. Previous dated sections are development history, not competing current requirements.

Smaller left-aligned section labels — October 1, 2026

This iteration incorrectly interpreted the 50% reduction as applying to labels. John corrected this: halve the tiles, preserve the prior label size, and retain the requested font styling and texture. See the superseding correction below. Keep the curvy italic character with a lighter-weight Palatino/Book Antiqua stack and Georgia fallback, a softer cocoa #513923 label color, and a faint embossed light/dark text shadow. Halve preferred/max size; retain a 14px minimum for mobile readability. Distinguish both columns: sandy shades #F5E1C1, #EFD7B2, #E7CAA6 on the left and warmer clay shades #EFD2BE, #E7C6AE, #DFBAA0 on the right. Every tile remains distinct with its own derived hover color. Keep the subtle raised surfaces, shorter tile heights, and nine featured-content cards below. This supersedes earlier section-label size/centering and palette details; introduction and featured-card titles are unchanged.

Implemented on PR #33 in fd2d65d5b8ef278133e65e0fde10c11ac28af73d; preview on staging before merging v2. Sass and all six normal/hover label contrasts passed. Font availability affects the exact fallback rendered on each device.

Correction: smaller tiles, full-size styled labels — October 1, 2026

The 50% reduction applies to section tile height, not title size. Preserve the column widths. Restore the prior label size rule (clamp(1.25rem, 7.5cqw, 2rem)), while keeping left alignment, softer italic Palatino-family lettering, and the subtle embossed light/dark text shadow. John explicitly reconfirmed the font styling and texture changes. Each tile now has its own cocoa text shade following the sand/clay palette: #634832, #60412E, #5A412B, #573A28, #513923, #4E3323 in reading order.

Desktop height is half the previous iteration at the same viewport. Tablet/mobile use half-height aspect ratios with a 90px minimum for legible full-size labels. Retain six distinct solid backgrounds, unique shaded hover feedback, shallow raised shadows, and featured content below the six tiles. This supersedes the smaller-label interpretation above. Implemented in PR #33 on landing-screen-tiles, commit bb64abe4a86e47c4385e8688c217cfa9588d7a9c. Review staging before merging v2.

Approved professional work history — October 1, 2026

John approved the reviewed professional overview and authorized its feature-branch commit. Preserve /resume/ and the provisional Work navigation label.

  • Identity line: John A. Paz | Professional Work History.
  • Main heading: Clear Communication.
  • Lead: Curiosity-driven storyteller known for technical depth; tinkerer-developer.
  • Remove Explore my work and Get in touch actions and the contact footer.
  • Include capabilities, selected portfolio/code samples, selected experience and education. Experience is grounded in the September 29, 2026 resume; downloads reuse _data/downloads.yml, including Combined packet disclosure.
  • Explicit espresso heading/lead colors prevent pale inherited text. Mobile Resume/Portfolio controls remain joined at 36px height. Menus anchor to the full toolbar with 20px gutters; labels wrap beside metadata instead of extending off-screen.

Committed on professional-overview-preview, commit fc60f9beea5de8281e632151eb57d5536e2d0ae9. Implementation notes. John reviewed the in-conversation preview; this is not a staging or production publication. Local Liquid/Sass, copy, downloads, anchors, JS syntax and whitespace checks passed. Canonical Jekyll/CI, full browser/Fold6 matrix, integration with the latest homepage branch and staging verification remain under #35. The branch starts from 6051fb6; preserve newer homepage revisions during integration. Dark/Darker remains #34; search remains deferred #26.

Next page recommendation: Writing index + simple article template, then About; dedicated project/talk pages follow as content warrants.

Coding/Projects and Talks/Media — October 1, 2026

John requested completing the remaining portfolio hubs. Coding and Projects use paired views consistent with Articles/Blog: repository tiles and a single-column project story view. Talks & Presentations pairs with Podcasts, Interviews & Press. Keep the shared design and toolbar, compact collapsed discovery, category/technology filtering, sorting, pagination, and usable no-JavaScript links. Preserve /presentations/ and /my-story/; correct duplicate/mislinked records and identify unavailable recordings honestly. Ground claims in the published portfolio, repositories, and host pages; retain original tool outcomes vs reconstruction provenance.

Implemented in PR #42, integrated into v2 and verified on staging. Design, sources, maintenance, exact deployment, and limits. Next queue remains search #26, then toolbar #38; physical Fold6 review is still a release check.
