Bash (or Bourne Again SHell) is the default shell on most Linux distributions these days. Though some people like to use zsh or some other shell, using bash upholds [KISS](Keep It Simple Stupid).
.bashrc
The file that controls the terminal for non-login shells is ~/.bashrc. Often, this is the file you want to modify the bash's appearance, at the $PATH variable
