Archetypes

There are some extra characteristics that a character can have, called archetypes, and they actually have an impact during a RimWorld run. These archetypes represent typical traits any fictional character has, and most of them add multiplicative factors or offsets to in-game stats.

When you are creating a character, it is a good idea to add at least one archetype, because it makes things a little bit more interesting during runs. I would also say four should be the max to keep things from getting too imbalanced.

The mod comes with a set of archetypes already defined. It is recommended to use these exclusively since they are intended to be a standard, but new ones can be defined if absolutely necessary just by going to the XML file where the archetypes are defined and copying one as template (they are easy to understand).

Soldier

Trained and disciplined, this person thrives under fire and never hesitates to pull the trigger.

Characters defined by formal military training, discipline, and combat readiness.

Examples: Master Chief, Sarah Connor, Marcus Fenix.

Brawler

Quick to anger and quicker with the fists, this person believes most problems can be solved up close.

Melee bruisers who rely on physical strength and instinct.

Overconfident and proud, this person often underestimate others — and overestimate themselves.

Arrogant, self-important personalities who radiate superiority.

Bastard

Cruel by nature, this person finds pleasure in the suffering or failure of others.

Actually evil individuals who delight in cruelty or sabotage.

Intelligent, awkward, and endlessly curious about how things work.

Untrustworthy and opportunistic, always ready to betray if a benefit can be obtained.

Schemers and backstabbers, both in the good or evil side.

Examples: Littlefinger, Starscream, Gollum.

Luckaholic

Misfortune seems to miss this person just by inches, and no one knows why.

Characters with improbable supernatural luck, often because of comical reasons.

Examples: Roger Wilco, Inspector Gadget, Jack Sparrow.

Athlete

Competitive and disciplined, this person loves to push the body to its limits.

Characters that are usually portrayed as always training to the limit, and often physically big and strong.

Bookworm

Prefers the quiet company of books to the noise of people, always chasing knowledge.

Those that are often portrayed relying on books.

Examples: Belle, Giles, Twilight Sparkle.

Explorer

Adventurous and restless, this person is always drawn to the unknown and unmapped.

Those whose main motivation is discovering new things, or going where nobody has been before.

Examples: Indiana Jones, James T. Kirk, Nathan Drake.

Mountaineer

Tough and enduring, comfortable where the air is thin and the climb never ends.

The stereotype of hardy climbers and rugged alpinists or hikers.

Examples: Aloy (mountain biomes), Edmund Hillary (fictionalized), Geralt (Skellige).

Guardian

Protective and steadfast, this person would rather take a hit than see a loved one or a friend hurt.

Those characters who usually have a little brother or sister and are always obsessed with protection.
