Tool Assembly

Definition:

A logical combination of two or more tool items assembled together to perform a machining operation.

Examples:

  • Drill insert + drill body + shrink-fit holder
  • Endmill + adapter + spindle interface

Notes:

Describes the structure (how tool items connect via their interfaces).

It’s what the CAM system simulates and what the machine uses.

It exists digitally — you can have the same assembly design used multiple times on different machines.
