Tool Item

Definition:

A single physical component used in a cutting tool system.

Examples:

  • An indexable insert
  • A cutter body
  • A collet, chuck, or adapter

Notes:

It’s the smallest exchangeable unit — something with its own manufacturer part number.

ISO 13399 defines its geometry, cutting data, interfaces, and designation (e.g. ISO code).

Think of it like a part in a bill of materials.
