Quick Start

This is the fastest way to make sure Smart! is working.

Place Your First Smart Grid

  1. Equip a 4m foundation in the build gun.
  2. Press K to open the Smart Panel.
  3. Set the grid to 3 x 3 x 1.
  4. Close or apply the panel.
  5. Check the preview in the world.
  6. Click once to build the full grid.

Smart! will charge the normal material cost for all 9 foundations.

Try The Keyboard Flow

With a buildable hologram active:

  • Press Num 8 or Num 5 to increase or decrease the active axis (X by default).
  • Press Num 6 or Num 4 to adjust Y.
  • Press Num 9 or Num 3 to adjust Z.
  • Press Num 0 to change which axis Num 8 / Num 5 adjust.

If you prefer mouse wheel control, hold a Smart modifier:

  • Hold X and scroll to adjust X.
  • Hold Z and scroll to adjust Y.
  • Hold X + Z and scroll to adjust Z.

Good First Experiments

  • Make a 10 x 10 foundation pad.
  • Build a row of constructors with extra spacing.
  • Use Steps to make a ramp-like foundation pattern.
  • Use Auto-Connect with a small row of splitters and machines.
  • Scale one of your own blueprints into a small grid and watch the belts/pipes wire between the copies (Smart Blueprints).
  • Use Extend after you have one working production module.
  • Try Smart Walking for a connected belt, pipe, or hypertube run that turns and climbs.

Build Normally For a While

Press Num Decimal to disable Smart building assistance for this session, then select a recipe again. You can place normally without changing saved settings. Press the key again to re-enable assistance. See Smart Assistance, including how to rebind the toggle.

What Smart! Does Not Do

Smart! does not create free buildings or resources. If you do not have enough materials, the build will fail just like a normal Satisfactory build.
