Client Downloads

Client downloads

Since 1.8.0.

Upload the installers you build — with Build Installers or any other way — and hand them out from the console itself, instead of a file share or a USB stick.

Installed clients do not update from this page. The client's auto-update only fetches stock releases from GitHub; see Updating clients.

Publishing a build

System → Client Downloads → Upload Build. The platform is guessed from the filename (rustdesk-1.4.2-aarch64.apk → Android) and can be overridden — a renamed file cannot mislabel itself. Label, version and notes are yours to set. Hide, reorder, replace or delete any build; every change lands in the console audit trail.

Files are stored privately in the data volume, under a random name, with a SHA-256 recorded so you can compare against what you built.

Where they appear

Public downloads page listing the published builds grouped by platform
  • /downloads — a public page you can link to anybody. No console account needed. Only published builds are visible; everything else 404s.
  • The sign-in page shows a "Download the client" link when builds are published. Switch it off in Settings → Server.

Downloads stream as attachments with nosniff, so an uploaded file can never execute in the browser. Both public routes are rate-limited. In the Docker image nginx sends the file itself once the console has checked it is published (since 1.10.0); a manual install streams it through PHP.

Size limits

The default limit is 512 MB, set with CORTENDESK_DOWNLOADS_MAX_MB. The Docker image applies it to its own nginx and PHP at boot. A reverse proxy in front has its own limit (nginx defaults to 1 MB), so raise client_max_body_size there too. A manual install needs nginx client_max_body_size and PHP upload_max_filesize/post_max_size raised to match; past those the request dies before CortenDesk can show an error. 512 MB since 1.10.0; 30 MB before.
