Pet Care

Your pet needs your help to have a healthy, fulfilling, affectionate life.

Stats

Your pet has 18 stats which change over time, and they change at different rates.

Tier Stats Change rate
Rapid health, fullness, energy, comfort, playfulness, focus ~Daily
Medium fulfillment, cleanliness, intelligence, maturity, affection ~Weekly
Slow fitness, serenity ~Monthly
Slowest courage, loyalty, mischievousness, curiosity, sociability Very slowly

All stats sit on a 0-100 scale. Health is never set directly; it's a weighted average of some of the other stats.

To care for your pet, you'll want to:

  • keep them well fed with varied meals
  • give them affection (pets, scratches, kisses)
  • groom them from time to time
  • buy them toys and play with them regularly
  • gently train their behavior
  • play minigames with them
  • take them on trips
  • and keep their environment interesting with healthy plants

Your pet will help communicate some of these needs through vocalizations. You can also go to the pet stats page to see them all at any time:

Stats

What each stat means

Select a stat on the stats screen and press A to see its description and current value.

Stat What it is How to raise / what lowers it
Health Overall wellbeing, derived from the other stats No single action raises it directly. Keep fitness, fullness, energy, comfort, and affection balanced.
Fullness How satisfied your pet's belly is Feed meals and treats. Activity burns through it, especially sleep and exercise.
Energy How rested and ready your pet is Restored by sleeping. Drained by playing, zoomies, training, and hunting.
Comfort Physical ease with their surroundings Restored by sleep, stretching, and affection. Worn down by startles and long inactivity.
Cleanliness How clean your pet is Your pet self-grooms, and grooming them gives a bigger boost. Activity gradually dirties them.
Fitness Athletic conditioning Built through training, hunting, zoomies, and movement. Fades slowly during rest.
Focus Ability to concentrate Restored by sleep and affection. Scattered by mischief and active exploration.
Intelligence Problem-solving ability Developed through training and hunting. Fades slowly when idle.
Curiosity Drive to explore Sparked by rest, surprises, and your attention. Satisfied by investigating and observing.
Playfulness Desire to play Restored by sleep and affection. Spent through play, training, and zoomies.
Affection How loved your pet feels Filled by kisses, petting, grooming, and treats. Drains when your pet sulks or hides.
Fulfillment Sense of purpose Grows through training, grooming, and affection. Fades when idle too long.
Serenity Inner peace and calm Restored by rest, kneading, and grooming. Worn by vocalizing and active exploration.
Sociability Eagerness to interact Boosted by training, affection, and grooming. Falls when hiding, sulking, or causing mischief.
Courage Boldness in scary situations Strengthened by training and affection. Chipped by startles and sulking.
Loyalty Strength of your bond Grows through training and frequent affection. Eroded by mischief and sulking.
Mischievousness Tendency toward playful trouble Rises during mischief and hunting. Reduced by affection and training.
Maturity Behavioral self-control Develops through training and observing. Set back by mischief and zoomies.

Stats change more slowly near 0 and 100, so a nearly full stat is harder to top off.

The Pet Info screen

Besides your pet's age, temperament, star sign, and favorites (meal, snack, toy, room, weather), the Pet Info screen tells you how your pet is doing:

  • Sickness: "feels a little sick", "pretty sick" (sickness 3+), or "very sick" (7+).
  • Meal variety: "wishes (they) had more variety in (their) meals" means 4 of the last 5 meals were the same kind.
  • "Feels at home here" means the pet is in a familiar location (see Environment).

Low stats: each stat below its threshold adds one line. If nothing is low, you'll see "feeling pretty great at the moment!"

Sickness

Your pet gets sick from:

  • being outside or in the treehouse during rain, snow, or (worse) storms
  • going hungry (fullness below 10) or getting very dirty (cleanliness below 15)
  • eating too many snacks in a row (4 or more snacks among recent meals, worse with less healthy snacks)

Sickness doesn't build up while your pet is sleeping or napping. A sick pet gains less from care (serenity, fulfillment, playfulness, comfort, energy, fitness, and focus all grow more slowly), sleeps more, and recovers less energy. You'll see sweat lines over a very sick pet's head, and over a mildly sick pet while it sleeps.

Recovery: each sleep removes some sickness. Giving medicine first makes the next sleep heal three times as much.

Environment

Plants. Every plant in a room counts toward that room's plant health: thriving +2, healthy +1, wilted or dormant -1, dead -2. While your pet idles, naps, sleeps, or receives affection in that room, the score adds to (or takes away from) serenity, comfort, affection, and fulfillment. A room full of thriving plants is a calmer, happier place. Dead and wilting plants actively hurt.

Weather. Your pet has a favorite kind of weather (shown on Pet Info). When the current weather matches it, they get small comfort and serenity boosts. Bad weather outdoors can make them sick, and they'll try to head inside.

Familiar places. On hardware, your pet recognizes the Wi-Fi networks around where it usually lives. In a familiar place, affection and sleep are more rewarding and serenity grows. Away from home, sleep is less restful, affection lands a bit softer, and your pet is less inclined to investigate. (The desktop emulator has no Wi-Fi, so it always counts as home.)
