Release list
v1.3.0 - Nintendo Switch port, custom texture pack support, Discord Rich Presence, various fixes and tweaks
No game data is included, you need a disc image made from your own copy of the game. The wiki lists the supported discs and formats, and how to report a problem.
Setup
See also Controls and Texture packs.
Not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo or Next Level Games.
Notes
- Nintendo Switch: The game now runs on the Switch as homebrew (setup).
- Renders with Vulkan through NVK, at the screen's resolution in handheld and docked play (720p and 1080p, respectively.
- Controls follow Nintendo's Switch 2 NSO release of the game. Up to four players can mix Pro Controllers, Joy-Con pairs and single Joy-Cons held sideways.
- Basic HD Rumble implementation. Strength configurable in the ini.
- Video capture supported.
- The European and Japanese discs use the console's language.
- Texture packs: I heard you! Dolphin texture packs now work (guide). The settings app's Game tab lists the packs it finds and can load one on its own. Pack making on the same tab saves the game's textures as PNGs for building your own. Have fun! Be weary Switch has a limit of 512MB for a texture pack.
- Discord: Added Rich Presence, which shows the mode, cup round, stadium, captains, score and time left. It is off by default; turn on Discord (Rich Presence) on the settings app's Game tab.
- Stability: Fixed a crash when a computer-controlled player picked a pass target.
- Input lag: Reduced input lag with VSync on. The game now reads the controller after it waits for the display.
- Superstrikes: The x2 icon now appears after a Superstrike goal.
- Settings polish: The stick deadzone and trigger point now start at the values the game uses (0.24 and 0.95).
- Keyboard: Opening the debug menu (F1) during a keyboard game no longer disconnects player 1.
- Packaging: Every archive now includes the third-party licence notices, and the setup guides have moved from the README to the wiki.
Thanks! Any issue, raise an issue. This will be the last update for a little bit unless there's a catastrophic bug. This has been taking a lot of my time and I have holidays coming up.
Priorities for next versions: Xbox UWP port, modding, and online multiplayer. The last one is not a guarantee - I don't have much experience with netcode. But there'll be a spike, so I'll look into it.
Full Changelog: v1.2.0...v1.3.0
Switch port test - If you're a PC/Mac/Linux user, ignore this
'strikers-switch.zip' runs Super Mario Strikers as homebrew on a Switch with custom firmware such as Atmosphere. It needs your own disc image; no game data is included.
- Unzip onto the root of the SD card. This creates
switch/strikers/strikers.nro. - Put your disc image (ISO/GCM, CISO or GCZ) in
switch/strikers/. - Hold R while starting any installed game, then choose Super Mario Strikers in the homebrew menu. Launching from the Album does not give the game enough memory.
The first launch can compile shaders on the memory card screen for up to two minutes. Controls follow the Nintendo Switch 2 of the game, and pressing the Minus button toggles a performance overlay for debugging purposes.
| Button | Action |
|---|---|
| Left Stick | Move |
| B | Pass; switch character |
| A | Shoot; slide tackle; clear |
| L/ZL + B | Lob pass |
| L/ZL + A | Chip shot |
| X | Use power-ups |
| R | Switch power-up items |
| Y | Fake with the ball; Big Hit without it |
| ZR + Left Stick | Turbo run |
| Right Stick | Fake; throw off an opponent's Superstrike timing |
| + | Pause menu |
| Minus | Show or hide the performance overlay |

Notes
This update's notes:
- Stability fixes: Fixed Cup progression crashes, goal replay hangs in high-scoring matches, and crashes when audio is disabled.
- Steam Deck: Added dedicated button prompts, automatic fullscreen in Steam Game Mode, an 800p internal rendering default, and better frame pacing.
- VSync: Fixed motion jitter with VSync enabled and reduced input lag with VSync disabled. VSync now defaults to off for more responsive controls; it can still be enabled in settings or the in-game overlay.
- Shader compilation: Added a startup shader compilation stage with a progress indicator. Stadiums no longer show an empty scene with pop-in when loading for the first time.
- Rendering performance: Moved texture conversion into the background and reduced rendering overhead. Every little helps!
- Languages: The Japanese disc now supports Japanese, English, German, French, Spanish, and Italian, so a Japanese copy of the game can be played in English.
- Linux: Added experimental OpenGL and OpenGL ES options to settings.
- Visual fixes: Fixed distorted goal transitions on older hardware, HUD elements remaining visible on widescreen displays, and incorrect menu rendering after resizing the window.
- Settings polish: Improved VSync descriptions and fixed info button visibility in dark themes. These provide information to non-technical users.
WINDOWS USERS: If you're getting a message that the game is a virus... it's obviously not. Feel free to upload to VirusTotal or a similar site for ease of mind. 'strikers.exe' will get quarantined but go through Windows Defender. Click 'allow on device.' in regard to actions to free the executable to play.
MACOS USERS: run this in Terminal before opening anything, or macOS will block the game and its libraries with "could not be verified". Change the path for your install.

Notes
Enjoy. Expect bugs/crashes. This update adds button prompts that follow the controller or keyboard you're playing on, including any rebinds, and you can pick a controller style under Button prompts in the settings app. Thanks to Kenney for the button graphics! It also fixes a rare crash during goal replays at high frame rates, and the game and settings app now show the release's version number.

Notes
Enjoy. Expect bugs/crashes. This hotfix fixes a crash at the final round of the cup when showing the trophy, fixes cinematic support on Windows and makes sure the goalie is visible properly at ultrawide aspect ratios and resolutions. Apologies. These weren't accounted for on my local benchmarks!

Enjoy. Expect bugs/crashes. This hotfix introduces more base level Linux support, crash fixes around the tutorial and voice lines that didn't come up in my benchmarking, And some tweaks to make Windows Defender think the game is not a virus.
