Define Robot

Nishendra Singh edited this page Aug 19, 2026 · 4 revisions

The Define Robot command makes a Robot object from CAD parts. The command opens a wizard with 4 steps in the task panel.

The wizard does all work in one transaction. OK keeps the robot. Cancel removes all changes.

Finished robot

Before you start

  • Prepare one .FCStd file that contains the robot parts. Use one body for each link.
  • Keep this file closed. The wizard imports it.
  • If the active document is not empty, the wizard asks: add the robot to this document? Select No to get a new document.

The four steps

  1. Step 1: Import components: merge the parts file into the document.
  2. Step 2: Insert parts: put the links into the assembly.
  3. Step 3: Define joints: ground the base link, then connect the links.
  4. Step 4: Review and finish: examine the joints and keep the robot.

Result

The document then contains:

  • the robot parts,
  • a Robot_Assembly with the joints,
  • a Robot object that wraps the assembly and holds the joint values.

The wizard also makes an editable BaseFrame coordinate system at the assembly root. Move the BaseFrame to move the full robot. See Place Robot and Joint Model.

Tip

To change a robot later, select it and start Define Robot again. The wizard opens in edit mode.
