Lava Lamp

A full-screen clock behind a slowly drifting 3D lava lamp. An app for iPhone.

Choose one of ten lava lamps, each its own pair of colors, and watch it drift as a calm, moving 3D background with the time floating on top.

  • 10 color pairs, each rendered as a real 3D lava lamp animation
  • Full-screen clock overlay, always readable at a glance
  • Tap the screen to progressively hide the UI, then the clock, for a clean ambient display
  • Choose a clock font from several styles
  • Screen stays awake while you're viewing it, so it works well as a bedside display

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to pay for this app?

No. The app is free, and the first 3 lava lamps are free to use. A one-time purchase ("Pro Unlock") unlocks the remaining lava lamps and all clock fonts. It's a single purchase, not a subscription.

I paid, but some lava lamps or fonts are still locked

Try restoring your purchase: open any locked lava lamp or font to bring up the purchase screen, then tap "Restore Purchase". This re-checks your Apple Account for a previous purchase and unlocks everything again. This is the same account-based purchase, so it carries over automatically if you reinstall the app or set it up on a new iPhone signed in with the same Apple Account.

How do I change the clock font?

Open a lava lamp, then tap the text icon (Aa) in the top-right corner to open the font list.

What does tapping the screen do?

Tapping cycles through three states: everything visible → navigation bar hidden → the clock also hidden. Tap again to bring everything back. This lets you get a completely clean animation with nothing on screen.

Why doesn't my screen turn off while I'm using this?

That's intentional. The screen is kept awake while a lava lamp is open so it can be used as an ambient or bedside display. It goes back to normal as soon as you leave that screen.

Does the app collect any of my data?

No. Lava Lamp doesn't have accounts, doesn't use the network, and doesn't collect analytics. Your selected clock font is stored only on your device, and your purchase is verified directly with Apple through StoreKit — the developer never sees your personal data.
