Yometan Privacy Policy

Yometan (Japanese name "読めたん", the "App") is an iPhone / iPad app developed and provided by Hajime Nakamura as an individual. This page explains what the App does and does not collect.
The App has no account registration. It does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or date of birth, and there is no login.
Imported text (text, EPUB, PDF), the extracted words, their meanings, and your study records (known / to-learn classifications, review state, etc.) — everything you work with — are stored only on your device.
- Nothing is sent to the developer's servers (the App has no such server)
- There is no iCloud sync; the data lives only on that device
- Deleting the App removes the on-device data
The usage analytics and crash reports described below never include any of this content (imported text, words, or meanings).
Meanings for words and example sentences are shown using Apple's on-device Translation framework. Translation is processed on your device, and imported text is not sent to any external server to obtain meanings.
The first time only, downloading the Japanese language pack requires an internet connection. This is provided by Apple and is subject to Apple's privacy policy.

To improve the App, we use Google's Firebase Analytics to measure anonymous usage. We do not send your content (imported text, words, or meanings) — only the fact that an action happened, and counts.
Examples of what is measured:
- That a book was imported (and its number of chapters)
- That a preview (quick triage) session was completed (how many words were sorted as "known" / "to learn")
- That a review session was finished (how many words)
- That words were exported (how many)
- That the paywall was shown, and that a Pro purchase or a tip was made
- That the initial vocabulary check was completed (the estimated level band)
- That an App Store review prompt (a request to rate the app) was shown
In connection with this, Firebase obtains information such as an app instance ID (an identifier assigned per app installation), device model, OS version, and coarse region. These are not used to identify you personally and are not linked to a name or email address (which the developer does not have anyway).

So that crashes can be diagnosed and fixed, we use Google's Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash information (technical logs at the time of the crash, device model, OS version, etc.). This is used only to fix bugs and does not include your content (imported text, words, or meanings).
The App does not request ATT permission. It does not obtain an identifier (IDFA) to track you across other apps and websites, and performs no such tracking. It shows no ads.
Word pronunciation is played using the device's speech synthesizer (AVSpeechSynthesizer), entirely on-device, with no data sent externally.
Some features are available through one-time purchases (and optional tips) via Apple's App Store. Payment is processed by Apple; the developer does not receive payment details such as card numbers. Purchase status is determined from the App Store entitlements (receipt) on your device, with no developer server involved. Handling of App Store purchase information follows Apple's Privacy Policy.
If you enable review reminders, all notifications are scheduled and delivered on your device (local notifications). No data is sent to a developer server for notifications, and no remote push notifications are used.
- On-device data: Deleting the App removes imported books, study records, and other on-device data
- Measurement data: The usage and crash data above are keyed to the app instance ID. Deleting the App removes that ID; reinstalling assigns a new one (not linked to the previous data). No request is needed
The App is not directed to children under 13, and does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13.
Other than Google (Firebase Analytics / Crashlytics) described above, the App does not provide, share, or sell your data to any third party.
