Welcome to the OpenTagViewer wiki!
This wiki contains a summary of some good-to-know information when it comes to using the OpenTagViewer app.
To use the app at this point in time, you're going to need:
- An Android phone with the OpenTagViewer app installed on it
- A (free) Apple Account with 2FA enabled either via
SMSorTrusted Device- You can easily create a "throwaway" account
- One or more AirTags, which need to already be registered with Apple via the iOS
FindMyapp- Currently this requires somebody to have an
iOSdevice (i.e. iPad or iPhone) to register them. - This iOS device is only needed once during AirTag registration.
- The owner of some iOS device can also simply share "their" AirTags with your new Apple Account.

- A
Macor (free)MacOS Virtual Machineof MacOS versionSonoma (14)or LOWER (so: not MacOSSequoia (15)!).- See this page for a reference of setting up a MacOS VM.
- This
MacOSdevice is only needed once to export details about the AirTags for the OpenTagViewer app.
- Install the OpenTagViewer app on your phone
- Choose an Anisette Server (you can change this later)
- If you want to set up your own custom Anisette server, see this wiki page
- Log in to the Apple Account with its email and password on the login page
- You will likely be prompted to enter your 2FA code the first time you connect to the chosen Anisette server
- Only

- Generate an export
.zipfile by following this wiki page- ℹ️ Automating this via an UI-based tool is pending!
- Import the
.zipfile in the OpenTagViewer UI - ...
- Profit! You will now be able to track your AirTags on your Android phone indefinitely
