SYNOPSIS

Sets the owner of files and directories.

SYNTAX

Path (Default)

Set-NTFSItemOwner [-Path] <String[]> -Account <String> [-ThrottleLimit <Int32>] [-PassThru]
 [-WhatIf] [-Confirm] [<CommonParameters>]

LiteralPath

Set-NTFSItemOwner -LiteralPath <String[]> -Account <String> [-ThrottleLimit <Int32>] [-PassThru]
 [-WhatIf] [-Confirm] [<CommonParameters>]

SecurityDescriptor

Set-NTFSItemOwner -SecurityDescriptor <PSObject> -Account <String> [-ThrottleLimit <Int32>] [-PassThru]
 [-WhatIf] [-Confirm] [<CommonParameters>]

DESCRIPTION

Sets a filesystem item's owner from an account name or SID. Setting an arbitrary owner can require SeRestorePrivilege; taking ownership can require SeTakeOwnershipPrivilege or suitable object permissions. A junction, a symbolic link, or a volume mount point is written as itself; its destination is not changed.

EXAMPLES

EXAMPLE 1

Get-Item -LiteralPath C:\Data | Set-NTFSItemOwner -Account 'BUILTIN\Administrators'

Sets the owner of C:\Data to the local Administrators group.
