FAQ
Does it work with repositories that aren't Obsidian vaults? Yes. Any git repository with a remote works; "Open in Obsidian" is the only Obsidian-specific item.
Does it pull, merge or sync? No. It only commits and pushes. If the remote has commits you don't have, the push fails and the vault shows "commits not pushed" until you pull in Terminal or another tool.
Why does it wait before reminding me? So it never nags you mid-edit. The quiet period starts over with every file change; set it per vault (Settings → Vaults → Remind after).
What exactly gets committed?
Everything in the vault (git add -A) minus the ignored paths and your .gitignore, or only
already-tracked files if you choose that. Never keep secrets in a vault the app commits.
I sync my vault with Syncthing / iCloud as well. Is that a problem?
No. The defaults ignore Syncthing's .stversions and .stfolder. Add other tools' folders to
the vault's ignored paths.
How does it compare to the Obsidian Git plugin? The plugin runs inside Obsidian (and commits on a timer while Obsidian is open). This app runs outside Obsidian, watches several vaults at once, reminds instead of committing silently, and keeps working when Obsidian is closed. They can be combined, but you'd usually pick one.
Why isn't it notarized? Notarization needs a paid Apple Developer account. The source is open, and you can build it yourself.
Is it affiliated with Obsidian? No. Obsidian is a trademark of Dynalist Inc.; this is an independent open-source tool.
