This walks you through your first connection. If you haven't set up the 3DS side yet, do Installation first.
Start NTR-HR (or HzMod) on the console and leave it running. Until it's running, the 3DS won't answer on the network.
At the top-right of the connect screen, choose NTR or HzMod:
- NTR — dual-screen, and unlocks the Compression Formats dropdown.
- HzMod — top screen only (beta).
You have three ways to set the IP:
- Type it — fill in the four IP octets manually (the 3DS shows its IP in the NTR/HzMod menu).
- Find — click Find to scan the local network for a running 3DS and fill the IP automatically.
- Bookmark — click the ⭐ to save the current IP as a chip; click a chip later to reuse it.
The Listen port defaults to 8001 and rarely needs changing.
- Scan on startup — auto-scan for the 3DS when the app launches.
- Auto-connect — connect automatically as soon as a 3DS is found.
- Try reconnect — if the stream drops, automatically try to reconnect.
- Pick a Preset (Best quality → Best framerate), or set Priority / Factor / Quality / QoS yourself. See Quality and Settings.
- On NTR, pick a Compression format. If you're not sure, start with JPEG (Reliable Stream) for a smooth picture — see Compression Formats.
Click Connect. The status dot turns to Connecting…, then the Stream View opens with your live screens.
The very first frame can take a few seconds while NTR re-inits the stream. If nothing shows after ~15 seconds, check Troubleshooting.
- Change layout, rotation, zoom, filter, tune per-screen colour, or hit the clean mode for a borderless picture — all in Stream View.
- Take screenshots, or Copy Text (OCR).
- Esc disconnects and returns to the menu. Full list in Keyboard Shortcuts.
