Aidyn ReChronicled 0.8.1
Aidyn ReChronicled 0.8.1 for Linux and Windows (x86_64).
Play on Linux: download AidynReChronicled-0.8.1-linux-x86_64.tar.gz, unpack it, run bash install.sh (or
game/aidyn-rechronicled.sh in place). Needs glibc 2.38+ (any current distribution), a Vulkan driver and libdbus.
Play on Windows: download AidynReChronicled-0.8.1-windows-x86_64.zip, unpack it anywhere, run AidynReChronicled.exe. Needs
Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) and a Vulkan driver; nothing to install (the Visual C++ runtime is included).
Put your own NTSC-U 1.0 ROM (.z64) in the download's ROMs folder, and the Aidyn Patch / Aidyn Plus ones if
you have them, under any names: the game finds them by their contents (without one, the first start asks for it).
The README in the download has the rest: controls, Aidyn Patch, settings, adding it to Steam.
Contains no game data. Includes the newly painted art (portraits, item and slot icons, button prompts, HUD
pieces, world textures); the HD menu and world texture packs (upscales of the game's own pictures) aren't part of it.
What's new since 0.8.0
- Better crash reports, for the crash after the first forest (#27). That crash is still not understood, so this
release makes it easier to catch: on Windows a crash's problem report now holds a minidump (logs/crash.dmp, every
thread's stack at the moment of the crash), so a report says where the game was, not just that it stopped. A game
that freezes, or is closed by force, makes a report the next time it starts, with the game's last known state. If the
game crashes, send the newestreport-....zipfrom thereportsfolder (Windows:%APPDATA%\AidynReChronicled\reports)
through the Problem report form on GitHub. - Storm lightning no longer flashes three times as often. The game checks for a lightning flash every 20th frame,
once a second on the N64 and three times a second at 60 frames a second. It is back to about once a second. - Fewer pops in the music. The game now keeps a little more sound ready ahead of time, so a slow moment (a map
loading at a long draw distance) no longer leaves a gap that played as a pop or a crackle. The log notes when one
still happens ("Sound: ran dry"). - A save made by another version is not loaded by mistake: Continue and Quick Load say to switch versions on the
title screen instead of loading a save from Aidyn Patch into the original (or the other way round). - Ground at the sides of a widescreen picture is drawn, so the edges no longer show bare spots.
- Combat: spell and skill descriptions show the stamina they cost against what is left, and a blue zZ on a
portrait marks a fighter with no stamina left. - The title menu has a new panel in the style of the turn order bar.
- The manual says stamina is never spent past what is left, and that vigour is the level's bonus points.
Already installed on Linux? Unpack this release and run bash install.sh again: it replaces the game and keeps your
saves, settings and ROMs. On Windows, unpack it over the old folder or into a new one: your saves and settings are in
%APPDATA%, not in the game's folder.

Aidyn ReChronicled 0.8.0
Aidyn ReChronicled 0.8.0 for Linux and Windows (x86_64).
Play on Linux: download AidynReChronicled-0.8.0-linux-x86_64.tar.gz, unpack it, run bash install.sh (or
game/aidyn-rechronicled.sh in place). Needs glibc 2.38+ (any current distribution), a Vulkan driver and libdbus.
Play on Windows: download AidynReChronicled-0.8.0-windows-x86_64.zip, unpack it anywhere, run AidynReChronicled.exe. Needs
Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) and a Vulkan driver; nothing to install (the Visual C++ runtime is included).
Put your own NTSC-U 1.0 ROM (.z64) in the download's ROMs folder, and the Aidyn Patch / Aidyn Plus ones if

pieces, world textures); the HD menu and world texture packs (upscales of the game's own pictures) aren't part of it.
What's new since 0.7.0
- The HD menu and world packs are in the download: the game's pictures that aren't repainted yet (menu pieces,
effects, a few portraits and titles) now come upscaled instead of as the N64 drew them. Only what the painted art
doesn't replace is included, so the download stays small. - Restored music: the music's instrument samples are redrawn whole, their lost treble back and the 8-bit hiss
gone, the same notes and mix (Instruments on the ReChronicled page: Restored or Original). Sound: Enhanced plays
the game as loud as other games and a little clearer. - Quit to Title and Quit Game: the Menu page ends with Quit to Title (it asks first: anything not saved is lost),
in a fight too; the title screen's menu ends with Quit Game. - Load Game and Quick Load in fights: both are on a fight's Menu page now; the fight is cleared away and the save
loads. - Combat speed and Enemy turns on the ReChronicled page: your party's moves and attacks 1.5x, 2x or 3x (never while
you choose), the enemies' turns up to 4x. - HP and stamina inside the portraits' frames in combat, for the party and the enemies, instead of bars hanging off
the side. - Crowded fights: attackers no longer stall against each other; they slide past and take a free spot by their
target (a pack of wolves now actually attacks). - The character page shows the three parts of the hit points beside Level and Gold: END, STA and VIG (Endurance,
Stamina and the hidden vigour), and the HitPoints rope is repainted. - LT switches characters in the pause menu, shops and with trainers (with RT), and View no longer does.
- Anti-aliasing on the Display page: Off, Low, Medium or High (MSAA and supersampling together, applied at once).
- Combat descriptions also for the X menu's skills (Lay On Hands, Heal With Herbs, Perform), with what a spell,
skill or potion takes from the pack and its icon. - Fixes: the red target box and the portrait's glow no longer stay after a cancelled spell; small text (the combat
log, the descriptions) is evenly spaced without cut letters.

What's new since 0.6.0
- An icon of its own for every item: 175 items that shared 31 icons (every shield one shield, every ring one ring,
every map one parchment) each have their own painted one now. - Potions told apart: every potion has its own colour (Fire Flask orange, Sleep Gas lavender, Antidote green,
Stealth dusky violet...; Healing keeps its red), in the inventory, the shops and the combat item menu. Scrolls and
wands take the colour of their spell's school (Chaos red, Elemental amber, Naming green, Necromancy violet, Star
blue). - The last world textures redrawn: the glows, smoke and spell effects that were still upscales (69 of them) are
now redrawn smoothly from the originals, so 2,113 of the game's 2,115 world textures are hand-made. - The world map repainted: the map page's land, revealed region by region as you find each map, is newly painted
in the page's sepia ink: forests, hills, towns and roads. - What a spell or potion does, in combat: while a spell is highlighted in the held X menu, or a potion or an
item's spell in the held Y menu, its description shows beside the menu (above it in 4:3), the same text as the
pause menu's Details. It hides with the combat log. - Characters at the edges of a widescreen picture: people, creatures and props near the sides of a wide screen
were left undrawn (the game only drew what a 4:3 picture showed). They now show right to the edge. - More button hints: Open on the map page, Scroll and Close in the journal, Leave in the shops, and Use on
Alchemist, Healer and Mechanic in the skills list. Details on the inventory page is drawn like the other hints. - Icons for the weapon skills and Shield in the skills lists (Axe, Bow, Pike, Sword, Thrown, Shield).
- The minimap sits at the screen's right edge with the rest of the HUD, its rooms redrawn crisply; the menus'
panels are repainted, and the lists' scroll arrows are crisp arrows in the hints' ink. - Save and Load screens: the saves keep their full-size pictures; the titles are redrawn.
- Loot no longer flickers half see-through as you walk up to it.
- Emulator saves: a Mupen64Plus
.mpk(all four controllers' paks in one file; RMG and simple64 too) or a
RetroArch.srmcopied in asaidyn.mpknow works: the game takes the pak with an Aidyn save from it and keeps
the whole original inbackups/, also when it is put in while the game runs. Project64's and ares' paks worked
already. - The manual (F1) lists what Aidyn Plus changes, read from your own Aidyn Plus ROM: its spells, weapons, armour
and shields, other items, every creature's level, weaknesses and resistances, training costs and potions. - Combat log in 4:3 steps out of the way while the held X or Y menu is open.
- More room to draw: a forest frame with the wider picture, the far map cells and the HUD already filled three
quarters of the game's display list, and a busier one would have stopped the game ("GLIST OVERWRITE"). The lists are
twice as big now, and the log notes any frame that comes close. - Fixes: a model whose texture was damaged in memory is now skipped for a frame instead of stopping the game; the
combat controls card no longer shows under the Train screen; the inventory page's list titles sit between their
rule lines. - Release notes in every download:
RELEASE-NOTES.md, next to the README, has what each release changed, newest
first.
Known issue: a save carried over from the original or Aidyn Patch into Aidyn Plus can crash it while loading
(their databases differ: #31). Keep each version's saves to itself.

Aidyn ReChronicled 0.6.0
Aidyn ReChronicled 0.6.0 for Linux and Windows (x86_64).
Play on Linux: download AidynReChronicled-0.6.0-linux-x86_64.tar.gz, unpack it, run bash install.sh (or
game/aidyn-rechronicled.sh in place). Needs glibc 2.38+ (any current distribution), a Vulkan driver and libdbus.
Play on Windows: download AidynReChronicled-0.6.0-windows-x86_64.zip, unpack it anywhere, run AidynReChronicled.exe.

What's new since 0.5.1
- Windows: a native Windows build (Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit), with every feature of the Linux one: unpack
AidynReChronicled-0.6.0-windows-x86_64.zipanywhere and runAidynReChronicled.exe. Nothing to install (the
Visual C++ runtime is in the folder). Add to Steam.bat adds it to Steam with its icon and library art. Saves,
settings and problem reports are in%APPDATA%\AidynReChronicled, and saves move between the Linux and Windows
builds as they are. - The ROMs folder: both downloads have a
ROMsfolder. Put your 1.0 ROM in it, and the same ROM with Aidyn Patch or
Aidyn Plus applied if you have them, under any names (.z64,.n64or.v64): at the next start the game finds
each by its contents, keeps a copy and lists it on the title screen, so the patched versions no longer need a launch
option or a menu entry to be added. On Linux, install.shcopies them into~/Games/AidynReChronicled/ROMsand keeps
that folder through updates. Without any ROM there, the first start asks for one as before. - Always a version that can start: if the version you played last has no ROM (only Aidyn Plus, say), the game plays
one that has, and the title screen lights that one, instead of asking for a ROM you may not have. - Faster start: the texture packs now come as three
.rtzfiles instead of about 40,000 small ones, so the game
reaches its first frame in under a second on Linux and about two on Windows, and the download unpacks faster. - Window on the Display page: Windowed or Borderless (full screen), switched at once and remembered; F11 and
Alt+Enter do the same and are now remembered too. - The inventory page's painting everywhere: without the HD menu pack (which no release has), a band of the old
page showed behind HitPoints, Level and Gold. The painted page now shows whole. - Start-up timings in
logs/last-run.log, to see where a slow start goes.
Already installed on Linux? Unpack this release and run bash install.sh again: it replaces the game and keeps your
saves, settings and ROMs. On Windows, unpack it over the old folder or into a new one: your saves and settings are in

Aidyn ReChronicled 0.5.1
Aidyn ReChronicled 0.5.1 for Linux (x86_64).
Play: download AidynReChronicled-0.5.1-linux-x86_64.tar.gz, unpack it, run bash install.sh (or game/aidyn-rechronicled.sh in
place). The first start asks for your own NTSC-U 1.0 ROM (.z64) and keeps it. The README in the download
has the rest: controls, Aidyn Patch, settings.
Needs glibc 2.38+ (any current distribution), a Vulkan driver and libdbus. Contains no game data. Includes the
newly painted art (portraits, item and slot icons, button prompts, HUD pieces, the first world textures); the
HD menu and world texture packs (upscales of the game's own pictures) aren't part of it.
What's new since 0.5.0
- Steam library art: the installer's Steam step now gives the game its own artwork in your library: the box
painting, without its title and redrawn for each of Steam's shapes, with the ReChronicled title card on the library
capsule and the wide capsule, the painting as the page banner and the title card as its logo. If you add the game
by hand, the pictures are in~/Games/AidynReChronicled/steam-art/(the README says where each goes). - A new icon: the swordsman from the box painting, in the app menu and on the Steam shortcut, in place of the
illuminated A. - The README in the download has the features list and a word on where the project stands: a hobby project, a work
in progress, not yet played very far. Playtests and problem reports from further along are very welcome. - The project is public: the code at https://github.com/spitzdano/AidynReChronicled (with screenshots and the
Problem report form for issues) and the tools it's built with at https://github.com/spitzdano/n64-recomp-toolkit.
Already installed? Unpack this release and run bash install.sh again: it replaces the game and keeps your saves and
settings, and its Steam step updates the shortcut with the new art (Steam closes for a moment).

place). The first start asks for your own NTSC-U 1.0 ROM (.z64) and keeps it. The README in the download

HD menu and world texture packs (upscales of the game's own pictures) aren't part of it.
What's new since 0.4.0
- Quicksaves and autosaves: press View while walking about to quicksave ("Quicksaved" shows at the top). The game
also saves by itself when you arrive somewhere new (through a door, into a town) and after every ten minutes of
walking about, keeping the last two. Quick Load on the pause menu loads the newest quicksave or autosave, and
Continue on the title screen picks up from your newest save of any kind. They are files of their own beside
the Controller Pak, so your pak's slots stay for Save Game. - LB shows and hides the controls card (walking and in combat), as View now quicksaves. In combat LT ends a turn.
- Walk speed: the party walks and runs 1.5 times faster in the field by default (Original to 2x on the
ReChronicled page). Legs and pace quicken together; the day, the monsters and fights keep their pace. - ReChronicled and Display pages in the pause menu: this edition's features switched on and off while you play
(widescreen, textures, vsync, FPS counter, HUD at the edges, draw distance, turn order, walk speed, controls card,
button prompts, combat log, smooth walk cycles, the right-stick camera and its directions). Each change takes
effect at once and is remembered. - About 1,500 newly painted world textures: the Overworld, Ehud's Tower, Gwernia Castle, Ugarit, Terminor,
Erromon, Chaos Isle, interiors, characters and more, alongside the painted portraits (Abrecan now with his scars).
F2 still shows what was there before. - A repainted pause menu: the three pages are one painted, unrolled scroll; new titles, the map page's calendar
shows the moon's phases again, and the journal's arrows are redrawn. - A new HUD: ornate portrait frames (party and enemies), a gold ring for the compass, the radar and the
time-of-day dial, the dial repainted with suns, rays and moon phases, and the compass letters in the menu font. - Combat: the turn order is an ornate bar, and a combat log at the bottom left keeps the game's messages.
- Icons repainted: the 28 small icons (aspects, schools of magic, skills), the spells as one clear symbol per kind.
- Distant trees without pop-in: at draw distance 2 and 3, props reach well past the game's own map cells, out of
the fog, without popping in. Pathlights work at draw distance 3 again. - The camera keeps out of walls: indoors it no longer swings through a wall to show the level's outside.
- FPS counter (Display page), at the top right; the frame rate now follows your display, up to 240 by default.
- The Buckler shows its painted face instead of a flat dark red.
- Help book: words for this edition's controls and a ReChronicled topic (camera, fast-forward, saving, combat...).
- Fixes: the freeze going into the hut near the first forest; a freeze with the camera pressed against a wall; a
crash on damaged prop models at long draw distances. - Problem reports: if something goes wrong, the game can put what's needed to look into it (the logs, your
settings and saves; nothing from the ROM) into one.zipin~/.local/share/AidynReChronicled/reports. It makes
one on its own when it crashes (and says where, instead of freezing), and Report a problem at the bottom of the
ReChronicled page makes one any time, with a picture of the screen and a save of that moment. Send the newest with
a few words on what happened.

HD menu and world texture packs (upscales of the game's own pictures) aren't part of it.
What's new since 0.3.2
- Aidyn Plus: halibabica's bigger rebalance (new weapon skills and items, every spell learnable, elements and
resistances reworked) can be played as a third version, next to the original and Aidyn Patch. Like Aidyn Patch it
isn't in the download: applyAidynPlus.bpsto your own 1.0 ROM and give the game the result once (--rom, or the
"Aidyn ReChronicled (Aidyn Plus)" launcher asks for it). It is checked by its hash (SHA-1
d57f9459a77c66490ff09b3d9d97545c7a65fad2) and keeps its own saves. - Version list on the title screen: the bottom left lists Original, Aidyn Patch and Aidyn Plus, the one you're
playing lit. X and Y switch to the other two, as marked beside them (View no longer switches). One you haven't added
is grey and marked not found. From the title menu (New Game, Load Game, Options), B now goes back to the title. - Turn order in combat: a strip across the top shows the round's turns from the fighter whose turn it is, a team
colour under each portrait, then the next round, dimmed. The next round is shown exactly as it will go. Quick
fighters can act two or three times a round (from DEX), and appear that many times. A crowded round gets smaller
portraits and a "+N".turn_orderinsettings.jsonturns it off. - Targets flash: whoever you're targeting pulses on their portrait and in the turn order, along with the game's own
pulse on their model. - Easier aiming with a bow or an area spell: the aiming marker moves at about the N64's pace (it was three times
faster and skipped past enemies) and follows how far you push the stick, so a light push aims finely. With a bow,
left / right on the D-pad jump to the previous / next target. - Fewer holes in the ground: below the horizon, wider gaps are filled too (up to about four N64 pixels), such as a
wall that doesn't quite reach the ground; thin cracks with soft edges no longer slip through. - Distant scenery stays put: parts of the far landscape (the castle across the bay in the title flyover, hills and
shores) no longer vanish as you move from one part of the map to the next, and the map cells the game left out
are drawn too. Scenery at the picture's edges no longer pops in when the camera tilts, and a new area's far
landscape fills in faster.

Aidyn ReChronicled 0.3.2
Aidyn ReChronicled 0.3.2 for Linux (x86_64).
Play: download AidynReChronicled-0.3.2-linux-x86_64.tar.gz, unpack it, run bash install.sh (or game/aidyn-rechronicled.sh in
What's new since 0.3.1
- Menu lettering with any HD menu pack: the inventory page's HitPoints, Level, Gold and DETAILS, and the page
titles (Treasure, Inventory, Buy, Sell, Skills, Spells, Stats, Train) and the map's town names, are in the text font
whatever version ofhd-uiis installed, or none. The titles come with the release (rechronicled-text); the words
painted into the inventory page are redrawn by the game itself over its own page picture, since the page can't
ship. An olderhd-uiused to show the old lettering. - Monsters, people and items twice as far: with the default
draw_distance2 they're drawn out to 160 units
(was 80; the game's own was 20 and 5-30), so a chest or a monster in view no longer vanishes as you back away.
Opened and blown-open chests and bags reach as far too. Footsteps and other
animation sounds still fade out at 15 units. - No more light blue seams: thin bright lines where pieces of the world meet (across the ground, up wall and cliff
corners) are filled in by the renderer. Below the horizon the background also fades to a dark shade, so holes near
the camera are dark instead of bright blue. - No flicker when crossing into the next part of the map: walking over a map-cell boundary showed one frame
slightly out of place at high refresh rates; that frame is now shown without blending. - 489 more painted textures: characters (247), items (89), spell and other effects (31) and more (122), in the
hand-painted style of the first batch.

HD menu and world texture packs (upscales of the game's own pictures) aren't part of it.
What's new since 0.3.0
- Text spacing fixed with any HD menu pack: the HD letters and Xbox button icons now come with the release
(rechronicled-text, drawn from fonts) and take priority over the HD menu pack's, so text is spaced right whatever
version ofhd-uiis installed, or none. An olderhd-uiused to give squeezed or gappy text ("LOADGAME",
"O PTIONS"). Existing settings files get the new pack added once.

Aidyn ReChronicled 0.3.0
Aidyn ReChronicled 0.3.0 for Linux (x86_64).
Play: download AidynReChronicled-0.3.0-linux-x86_64.tar.gz, unpack it, run bash install.sh (or game/aidyn-rechronicled.sh in
place). The first start asks for your own NTSC-U 1.0 ROM (.z64) and keeps it. The README in the download
has the rest: controls, Aidyn Patch, settings.

What's new since 0.2.1
- Save pictures in full resolution: the Load and Save screens show each save's picture taken from the real
rendered frame instead of the game's 64x32 smudge. The pictures go intosave-pictures/beside your saves; saves
made before this keep the small one until you save over them. - Button hints in the menus: the treasure screen (Take / Put back, Leave, Switch), shops (Buy / Sell, Appraise,
Switch), the inventory page (Equip, Unequip or Use for the highlighted item, Lists, and the party buttons when
there's more than one of you), training after a battle (Train, Lists), and the combat menus held open with Y and X
(Choose, Release to use). - Monsters, people and items from farther away: they appear and move as far out as trees and rocks are drawn
(80 units at the defaultdraw_distance2, 120 at 3; the game's own reach was 20), fading in at the edge. - No more footsteps from across the map: enemies' footsteps and other animation sounds fade out with distance
again instead of wrapping around to loud past 15 units. - Text fix: text no longer comes out squeezed ("LCAD GAME") when an older HD menu pack is installed; the new
letter widths are used only with a pack built for them. - Steam shortcut:
steam_shortcut.pytakes--launcher,--artand--iconfor a shortcut to another launcher.
