Welcome to Foundry2D!

Foundry2D is an open source platformer prototyping tool, with a focus on rapid iteration, maximal customization, and ease of use.

This page is designed to help you get started and give a short introduction to the basics of the tool

The Editor

Build and customize your levels in the editor! The main way to interact with the editor is with our three tools:

The Brush:

  • Paint tiles with left click, and erase with right click!
  • Select the tile you're painting with in the top toolbar.

The Box Brush:

  • Paint large, rectangular areas with left click and erase them with right click!
  • Once the area is right, press SPACE to confirm your action.

The Cursor (Hand):

  • Place props and entities with left click, and erase them with right click!
  • Select the entity or prop you're placing with the top toolbar.
  • Modify the properties of placed entities by clicking on them with this tool.
  • Click and drag on an entity to move it around
  • Duplicate placed entities by pressing CTRL + Click.

The cursor will ONLY affect entities and props, while the brushes will ONLY affect tiles.

Play Mode

Test out your levels in play mode! To enter play mode, make sure a Player and a Goal are placed. Once in play mode, use WASD or the arrow keys as well as space to control your character.

Tiles

There are 8 unique tiles!

  • Solid Tile: The most basic tile. Acts as ground, walls, and ceilings
  • Slope: A diagonal tile, which is rotatable. Good for ramps, and shaping!
  • One-Way: A tile that can be passed through from beneath, but is solid from the top.
  • Bounce Tile: Springy! Bounces the player up a bit higher than their jump height.
  • Ice Tile: Low friction! Takes longer to get up to speed, but keep a higher maximum speed!
  • Sticky Tile: High friction! Move slowly, wallslide slowly, and reduce your jump height.
  • Hazard Tile: Ouch! Deals 1 damage to the player.
  • Death Tile: Super ouch! Instantly kills the player.
