Media Module Notes

File_entity module (2.0-alpha3)

• File types, based on mime-type of uploaded file.
  • Each has own fields & display modes
  • Image, Video, Audio, Document by default
• Uploaded files managed under Content
  • or using contextual links when they are displayed.
• Nothing changes about file and image field config
• Added options for field display (view modes)

Media module (Latest dev, 2014-06-02)

• adds media browser
• adds field option & file type limits when attaching media
• media_wysiwyg module
  • works great with basic integration.
  • not so great when adding custom fields to override when inserting.
  • didn't get it working with ckeditor module. (read through https://drupal.org/node/1504696)
  • adds a text format filter, and previews appropriately.
• media_gallery is painful to set up.
• Avoid using core's image field; go with the file field.
  • Otherwise, can't browse library.
• Juicebox gallery module works on images in regular file fields.
  • Also can pull from media subfields.
